Abnormal grain growth induced byδ→γphase transformation in Fe-based shape memory alloys

Grain boundaries,including low-angle,high-angle,and coinci-dence boundaries,are intrinsic interfaces in polycrystalline *** heat-treatment at sufficiently high temperatures,grain boundary migration occurs because the grain boundaries are ther-modynamically ***,grain growth occurs due to a decrease in grain boundary area after heat-treatment[1].In general,there are two types of grain growth:normal grain growth,where grains grow uniformly,and abnormal grain growth,where one or a few grains selectively grow and engulf surround-ing smaller grains,leading to the formation of large grains,some-times several millimeters or greater in size[2].The classical tech-nique to achieve abnormal grain growth is the strain-annealing method,which involves subjecting the material to a small strain followed by annealing[3,4].This method has been reported to ob-tain single-crystal wires or plates[1].Additionally,abnormal grain growth can be achieved by plastic straining at high temperatures,resulting in the fabrication of large grains or single crystals[5].However,the above methods are not applicable to components with complicated shapes due to the inevitable deformation ***,Omori et *** a simply method of abnor-mal grain growth to fabricate ultra-large grains,even single crys-tals,in Cu-Al-Mn[1],Fe-Mn-Al-Ni[2],and Fe-Mn-Al-Ni-Cr[6]*** method involves applying cyclic heat treatment between a high temperature BCC single-phase region and a low tempera-ture BCC+FCC two-phase region[1,2,6-12].Note that the cyclic heat treatment resulted in the formation of BCC sub-grain struc-tures responsible for abnormal grain growth[1,2,6-12].In addition,Yang et *** that abnormal grain growth occurred at above 900℃,and large-grains,even single crystals,were obtained only through annealing cast Cu-based polycrystalline alloys contained coherent nano-particles[13,14].Notably,the cyclic heat treatment and annealing cast alloys are deform

Designing microstructurally stable FeCrAl alloys with excellent strength-ductility synergy is highly desir-able for their engineering ***,due to the preference nucleation of precipitates at grain boundaries(GBs),the improved precipitation strengthening of these alloys is usually accompanied by in-tergranular ***,we propose a novel thermomechanical processing route coupled with the Si alloying strategy via precipitation of coherent deformable Laves precipitates inside equiaxed fine-grains to achieve FeCrAl alloys with ultrahigh yield strength over∼992 MPa,excellent uniform elongation of∼7.6%at room temperature,and superior thermal stability at temperature∼1200℃.The Si alloying not only decreases the stacking fault energy of Laves precipitates favorable for their stacking-fault-mediated deformation but also hinders grain coarsening at 1200℃due to the Si-enrichment favorable for GB pin-ning *** results prove the possibility of achieving the collaborative enhancement of mutually exclusive properties in alloys,such as strength-ductility-thermal stability via nanoprecipitation engineer-ing,and offer a promising route to prepare dispersion-strengthened materials.

An improved simple model forαdecay half-lives

In this paper,using theαparticle preformation probabilities Pαfrom Xu et al.[Xu and Ren,***.A 760,303(2005)],which were extracted by fitting experimental half-lives ofαdecay,based on a phenomenological harmonic oscillator potential model(HOPM)[Bayrak,J Phys G 47,025102(2020)],refitting 178αdecay half-lives of even-even nuclei obtained from the latest nuclear property table NUBASE2020,we obtain the only one adjustable parameter V0-162.6 MeV in the HOPM,i.e.,the depth of nuclear *** corresponding root-mean-square(rms)deviation isσ-***,to consider the contribution of centrifugal potential to unfavoredαdecay half-lives,adding a new term■(d and l are the adjustable parameter and orbital angular momentum carried away by emittedαparticle)to the logarithmic form of favoredαdecay half-lives under the HOPM framework,we propose an improved simple model(ISM)for calculating favored and unfavoredαdecay *** the experimental half-lives of 205 unfavoredαdecay,we obtain *** ISM is used to calculate the unfavoredαdecay half-lives of 128 odd-A and 77 odd-odd *** results improve by 54.2%and 53.6%,respectively,compared with *** addition,we extend the ISM to predict theαdecay half-lives of 144 nuclei with Z=117,118,119,and *** comparison,the improved model with eight parameters(DUR)proposed by Deng et al.[Deng,***.C 101,034307(2020)]and the modified universal decay law(MUDL)proposed by Soylu et al.[Soylu,***.A 1013,122221(2021)]are also *** predictions of these models and/or formulas are generally consistent with each other.

Systematic study of cluster radioactivity in trans-lead nuclei with various versions of proximity potential formalisms

In this study,based on the framework of the Coulomb and proximity potential model(CPPM),we systematically investigate the cluster radioactivity half-lives of 26 trans-lead nuclei by considering the cluster preformation probability,which possesses a simple mass dependence on the emitted cluster according to *** and ***[***.61,1930(1988)].Moreover,we investigate 28 different versions of the proximity potential formalisms,which are the most complete known proximity potential formalisms proposed to describe proton radioactivity,two-proton radioactivity,αdecay,heavy-ion radioactivity,quasi-elastic scattering,fusion reactions,and other *** calculated results show that the modified forms of proximity potential 1977,denoted as Prox.77-12,and proximity potential 1981,denoted as Prox.81,are the most appropriate proximity potential formalisms for the study of cluster radioactivity,as the root-mean-square deviation between experimental data and relevant theoretical results obtained is the least;both values are *** comparison,the universal decay law(UDL)proposed by Qi et al.[***.C 80,044326(2009)],unified formula of half-lives forαdecay and cluster radioactivity proposed by Ni et al.[***.C 78,044310(2008)],and scaling law(SL)in cluster radioactivity proposed by Horoi et al.[***.G 30,945(2004)]are also *** addition,utilizing CPPM with Prox.77-12,Prox.77-1,Prox.77-2,and Prox.81,we predict the half-lives of 51 potential cluster radioactive candidates whose cluster radioactivity is energetically allowed or observed but not yet quantified in *** predicted results are in the same order of magnitude as those obtained using the compared semi-empirical and/or empirical *** the same time,the competition betweenαdecay and cluster radioactivity of these predicted nuclei is *** comparing the half-lives,this study reveals thatαdecay predominates.

In this study,proton emission half-lives were investigated for deformed proton emitters with 53≤Z≤83based on the presented deformed Gamow-like model,where the deformation effect was included in the Coulomb *** experimental half-lives of proton emitters can be reproduced within a factor of *** comparison,the results from the universal decay law and the new Geiger-Nuttall law are also ***,the relevance of the half-lives to the angular momentum l for ^(117)La,^(121)Pr,^(135)Tb,and ^(141)Ho were analyzed,and the corresponding possible values of l were proposed:l=3,3,4,4.

The cermet fuels have been considered as a potential key component for the nuclear thermal propulsion,and the homogeneity of the fuel particles in the metal matrix plays a crucial role in stabilizing the structure at extremely high *** this work,liquid paraffin was used as additive to improve the distribution of yttria-stabilized zirconia(YSZ,an appropriate surrogate for UO_(2) fuel)microspheres in the tungsten(W)matrix,and the W-YSZ cermet wafers(volume ratio 1:1)with a relative density of 97.6%were fabricated by spark plasma sintering with a specifically designed *** effects of the paraffin dosage(0-5 wt.%)on the homogeneity,microstructure,mechanical properties,and the thermal conductivity of W-YSZ cermet were *** W-YSZ sample with 2 wt.%paraffin shows the highest homogeneity and exhibits the best comprehensive properties,including the ultimate tensile strength of 132.2 MPa at 600℃,the bending strength of455 MPa and thermal conductivity of 50 W·m^(-1)·K^(-1)at room ***,the cermet could keep structurally sound after thermal shocked at a heat load of 20 MW·m^(-2).These results would be helpful for the design and optimization of the cermet fuels in the nuclear thermal propulsion.

α-particle preformation factors in heavy and superheavy nuclei

In this study,α-particle preformation factors in heavy and superheavy nuclei from ^(220)Th to ^(294)Og are *** combing experimental α decay energies and half-lives,the α-particle preformation factors P_(α) are extracted from the ratios between theoretical α decay half-lives calculated using the Two-Potential Approach (TPA)and experimental *** find that the α-particle preformation factors exhibit a noticeable odd-even staggering behavior,and unpaired nucleons inhibit α-particle ***,we find that both the α decay energy and mass number of parent nucleus exhibit considerable regularity with the extracted experimental α-particle preformation *** considering the major physical factors,we propose a local phenomenological formula with only five valid parameters for α-particle preformation factors P_(α).This analytic expression has a clear physical meaning as well as good *** an application,this analytic formula is extended to estimate the α-particle preformation factors and further predict the α decay half-lives for unknown even-even nuclei with Z=118 and 120.

CFD-DEM simulation of high density particles fluidization behaviors in 3D conical spouted beds

The spouted bed has been used in the coating process of high-density nuclear fuel *** particle fluidization behaviors in pseudo-2D and 3D spouted beds were simulated and *** effects of four independent variables(cone angle,particle density,inlet gas velocity,and particle loading)on particle fluidization behaviors in the 3D spouted bed were investigated *** cone angle effect on fluidization mechanism was studied quantitatively first time.A new fluidization quality index was proposed based on the particle entrainment principle,and an extreme value was obtained when the cone angle was 60°,considered to be the optimum value for the 3D conical spouted *** was indicated the gas–solid contact efficiency can be kept up if the gas velocity was proportional to ρ_(p)^(0.65) and N_(p)^(0.78) when the particle density or loading was *** results will be useful for geometry and operation parameters design of the 3D conical spouted bed and helpful for developing the fluidization mechanism of high-density particles.

Halogen-bond induced unusual polyhalogen anions formation in hydrogen-bonded frameworks to secure iodine sequestration

Safe confinement of fission iodine isotopes for long-term radioactive waste disposal remains a formidable challenge,as conventional sorbents provide inherently weak iodine-host *** report here a novel halogen bond(X-bond)directed strategy to sequester volatile iodine in hydrogen-bonded(H-bonded)frameworks with unprecedented ***-assisted Hbonded frameworks bearing open halide sites are developed,showing distinctive iodine encapsulation behaviors without compromising the *** crystallographic evidence indicates the formation of X-bonds,i.e.,I–I···Cl−and I–I···Br^(−),within the confined pore *** polyhalogen anions,i.e.,[I_(2)Cl_(2)]^(2−)and[I_(2)Br_(2)]^(2−),sustained in H-bonded frameworks are identified for the first *** X-bond reinforced host-guest interaction affords robust iodine trapping without leaking out even at elevated temperatures up to 180°*** integrating the halogen-bond chemistry with H-bonded frameworks,this study offers fresh concepts for developing effective host reservoirs to secure fission iodine isotopes from spent fuel reprocessing off-gases.

Thermal stability of the Cr-coated zirconium alloy microstructure prepared by pulsed laser deposition

Cr-coated zirconium alloy was prepared by pulsed laser deposition(PLD)for the application of accident-tolerant fuel cladding in light water *** microstructural characteristics of the Cr coating and its evolution with temperature were investigated using grazing incidence X-ray diff raction and in situ heating transmission electron microscopy(TEM).Results show that the microstructure of the laser-deposited Cr coatings consists mainly of fine and non-specific shaped nano-crystals in the inner layer and columnar crystals in the outer *** recrystallization of the Cr-coating layer starts at 300–400℃ to release the high strain introduced by PLD,and the grain coalescence starts at temperatures>400°*** annealing,the(110)-texture gradually intensifi es because of its high reticular density and low close-packed ***,in situ heating TEM observation shows the presence of cavities on the Cr–Zr interface,which may result from the interdiff usion and/or the transformation from amorphous to crystalline.
