A series of nano.articles with phase-separated structures by 1,1-diphenylethene controlled one-step soap-free emulsion copolymerization and their application in drug release

A facile one-step approach to synthesize various phase-separated porous, raspberry-like, flower-like, core–shell and ano.alous nano.articles and nano.apsules via 1,1-diphenylethene (DPE) controlled soap-free emulsion copolymerization of styrene (S) with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), or acrylic acid (AA) is reported. By regulating the mass ratio of S/GMA, transparent polymer solution, porous and ano.alous P(S-GMA) particles could be produced. The P(S-GMA) particles turn from flower-like to raspberry-like and then to ano.alous structures with smooth surface as the increase of divinylbenzene (DVB) crosslinker. Transparent polymer solution, nano.apsules and core–shell P(S-AA) particles could be obtained by altering the mole ratio of S/AA; ano.alous and raspberry-like P(S-AA) particles are produced by adding DVB. The unpolymerized S resulted from the low mono.er conversion in the presence of DPE aggregates to form nano.sized droplets, and migrates towards the external surfaces of the GMA-enriched P(S-GMA) particles and the internal bulk of the AA-enriched P(S-AA) particles. The nano.sized droplets function as in situ porogen, porous P(S-GMA) particles and P(S-AA) nano.apsules are produced when the porogen is removed. This no.el, facile, one-step method with excellent controllability and reproducibility will inspire new strategies for creating hierarchical phase-separated polymeric particles with various structures by simply altering the species and ratio of comono.ers. The drug loading and release experiments on the porous particles and nano.apsules demonstrate that the release of doxorubicin hydrochloride is very slow in weakly basic environment and quick in weakly acidic environment, which enables the porous particles and nano.apsules with promising potential in drug delivery applications.

Adaptive models are based on the observation that there are some actions that people can and actually do take to achieve thermal comfort. Studies regarding thermal comfort conditions in econo.ical dwellings were carried out simultaneously in seven Mexican cities, corresponding to warm dry and warm humid climates. In this article, case studies of low-cost dwellings in the city of Hermosillo （in no.thwest Mexico）, are presented and analyzed. Field surveys were carried out to obtain information about the physical characteristics of the dwellings and their occupants, as well as the indoor thermal environment. Neutral temperature was obtained from the applied survey. The high neutral temperature reveals the effect of inhabitants＇ adaptation mechanism to extreme climates. Occupant comfort votes as a function of indoor air temperatures were analyzed, and different characteristics such as age, size and gender were evaluated separately. The results show the variability of the neutral temperature and the tolerance to temperature changes, depending on the population＇s specific characteristics. In many cases where the population does no. have access to artificial acclimatization devices, the neutral temperature values for specific climates and people can inform architects when choosing the most suitable thermal strategies for building design.

The difference of no.ularizer in phase morphology and service performance by three processes was *** three processes include directly pressing magnesium into molten alloy stirring by nitrogen gas and no.stirring from 5 t arc furnace and melting magnesium in the intermediate frequency *** microstructure patterns were observed by scanning electron microscope, and composition of phases was measured by energy dispersive spectrometer method.X-ray diffraction method was used to determine the phase structure of the *** results show that spheroidizing reaction time and violent degree of no.ularizers are influenced by grain size and distribution uniformity of siliconizing magnesium phase; spheroidizing reaction degree can be mitigated and spheroidizing time be increased by using N2 stirring in pressing magnesium from arc furnace.

AIM: To investigate the effect of chitooligosaccharides on proliferation of pancreatic islet cells, release of insulin and 2 h plasma glucose in streptozotocin-induced diabetic ***: In vitro, the effect of chitooligosaccharides on proliferation of pancreatic islet cells and release of insulin was detected with optical microscopy, colorimetric assay, and radioimmuno.ssay respectively. In vivo, the general clinical symptoms, 2 h plasma glucose, urine glucose, oral glucose tolerance were examined after sixty days of feeding study to determine the effect of chitooligosaccharides in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. RESULTS: Chitooligosaccharides could effectively accelerate the proliferation of pancreatic islet cells. Chitooligosaccharides (100 mg/L) had direct and prominent effect on pancreastic β cells and insulin release from islet cells. All concentrations of chitooligosaccharides could improve the general clinical symptoms of diabetic rats, decrease the 2 h plasma glucose and urine glucose, and no.malize the disorders of glucose ***: Chitooligosaccharides possess various biological activities and can be used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus.

Objective To investigate the attenuating effect of curcumin, an anti-inflammatory compound derived from dietary spice turmeric （Curcuma longa） on the pro-inflammatory insulin-resistant state in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Methods Glucose uptake rate was determined with the [3H] 2-deoxyglucose uptake method. Expressions of tumor necrosis factor-α （TNF-α） and interleukin-6 （IL-6） were measured by quantitative RT-PCR analysis and ELISA. Nuclear transcription factor kappaB p65 （NF-r,B p65） and mitogen-activated protein kinase （MAPKs） were detected by Western blot assay. Results The basal glucose uptake was no. altered, and curcumin increased the insulin-stimulated glucose uptake in 3T3-L1 cells. Curcumin suppressed the transcription and secretion of TNF-α and IL-6 induced by palmitate in a concentration-dependent manner. Palmitate induced nuclear translocation of NF-kB. The activities of Jun NH2-terminal kinase ONK）, extracellular signal-regulated kinasel/2 （ERKI/2） and p38MAPK decreased in the presence of curcumin. Moreover, pretreatment with SP600125 （inhibitor of JNK） instead of PD98059 or SB203580 （inhibitor of ERKI/2 or p38MAPK, respectively） decreased the up-regulation of TNF-α induced by palmitate. Conelusion Curcumin reverses palmitate-induced insulin resistance state in 3T3-L1 adipocytes through the NF-kB and JNK pathway.

·AIM: To study the role of immature dendritic cells (imDCs) on immune tolerance in rat penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) in high -risk eyes and to investigate the mechanism of immune hyporesponsiveness induced by dono.-derived imDCs. ·METHODS: Seventy-five SD rats (recipient) and 39 Wistar rats (dono.) were randomly divided into 3 groups: control, imDC and mature dendritic cell (mDC) group respectively. Using a model of orthotopic corneal transplantation in which allografts were placed in neovascularized high -risk eyes of recipient rat. Corneal neovascularization was induced by alkaline burn in the central cornea of recipient rat. Recipients in imDC group or mDC group were injected dono. bone marrow-derived imDCs or mDCs of 1 ×10 6 respectively 1 week before corneal transplantation tail vein. Control rat received the same volume of PBS. In each group, 16 recipients were kept for determination of survival time and other 9 recipients were executed on day 3, 7 and 14 after transplantation. Cornea was harvested for hematoxylin eosin staining and acute rejection evaluation, Western blot was used to detect the expression level of Foxp3. ·RESULTS: The mean survival time of imDC group was significantly longer than that of control and mDC groups (all no. -derived imDC is an effective treatment in inducing immune hyporesponsiveness in rat PKP. The mechanism of immune tolerance induced by imDC might be inhibit T lymphocytes responsiveness by regulatory T cells. ·
