High temperature and high pressure rheological properties of high-density water-based drilling fluids for deep wells

To maintain tight control over rheological properties of high-density water-based drilling fluids, it is essential to understand the factors influencing the theology of water-based drilling fluids. This paper examines temperature effects on the rheological properties of two types of high-density water-based drilling fluids （fresh water-based and brine-based） under high temperature and high pressure （HTHP） with a Fann 50SL rheometer. On the basis of the water-based drilling fluid systems formulated in laboratory, this paper mainly describes the influences of different types and concentration of clay, the content of a colloid stabilizer named GHJ-1 and fluid density on the rheological parameters such as viscosity and shear stress. In addition, the effects of aging temperature and aging time of the drilling fluid on these parameters were also examined. Clay content and proportions for different densities of brine-based fluids were recommended to effectively regulate the rheological properties. Four theological models, the Bingham, power law, Casson and H-B models, were employed to fit the rheological parameters. It turns out that the H-B model was the best one to describe the rheological properties of the high-density drilling fluid under HTHP conditions and power law model produced the worst fit. In addition, a new mathematical model that describes the apparent viscosity as a function of temperature and pressure was established and has been applied on site.

Molecular Dynamics Numerical Simulation of Adsorption Characteristics and Exploitation Limits in Shale oil Microscopic Pore Spaces

Microscopic pore structure in continental shale oil reservoirs is characterized by small pore throats and complex *** adsorption behavior of hydrocarbons on the pore walls exhibits unique physical and chemical ***,studying the adsorption morphology of hydrocarbon components in nanometer-sized pores and clarifying the exploitation limits of shale oil at the microscopic level are of great practical significance for the efficient development of continental shale *** this study,molecular dynamics simulations were employed to investigate the adsorption characteristics of various single-component shale oils in inorganic quartz fissures,and the influence of pore size and shale oil hydrocarbon composition on the adsorption properties in the pores was *** results show that different molecules have different adsorption capacities in shale oil pores,with lighter hydrocarbon components(C6H14)exhibiting stronger adsorption *** the same adsorbed molecule,the adsorption amount linearly increases with the increase in pore diameter,but larger pores contribute more to shale oil *** shale pores,the thickness of the adsorption layer formed by shale oil molecules ranges from 0.4 to 0.5 nm,which is similar to the width of alkane *** oil in the adsorbed state that is difficult to be exploited is mainly concentrated in the first adsorption *** them,the volume fraction of adsorbed shale oil in 6 nm shale pores is 40.8%,while the volume fraction of shale oil that is difficult to be exploited is 16.2%.

Analysis of carbon and oxygen stable isotopes in carbonate rocks by the laser micro-sampling technique

The analysis of stable isotopes of carbon and oxygen in different carbonate rocks by the phosphoric acid method is not easier than that by the laser sampling method developed in recent years, which optically focuses laser beams with sufficient energy on a micro area of a thin section in a vacuum sample box via microscope. CO 2 produced by heating decomposition of carbonate was purified by the vacuum system, and the stable isotopic values of carbon and oxygen were calculated and analyzed on a mass spectrometer. This paper adopted the laser micro-sampling technique to analyze the stable isotopes of carbon and oxygen in dolomite, carbonate cement, stromatolite and different forms of dawsonite (donbassite). Results indicated that the laser micro-sampling method is effective in analyzing carbonate composition and could be a convincing proof for justification on carbonate composition analysis.

Defining stratigraphic oil and gas plays by modifying structural plays:A case study from the Xihu Sag,east China Sea Shelf Basin

The study focuses on an area of relatively mature oil and gas exploration located in the western slope of the Xihu Sag,East China Sea Shelf *** stratigraphic oil and gas plays are introduced to replenish the shrinking prospect inventory in the *** reservoirs of these plays are traditional pay intervals of the Eocene Pinghu Formation and Baoshi Formation composed of tide-dominated delta front,tidal flat and delta front sand bar *** investigating conventional seismic data,seismic inversion volumes,and well log data,multiple tidal-influenced delta front channels,beach sand packages have been mapped out in different reservoir sand intervals of the Pinghu Formation and Baoshi *** recognize four types of stratigraphic terminations:channel flank pinch-outs,axial pinch-outs of sand-fills,channel mouth sand bar pinch-outs,and onlap pinch-outs for the Baoshi *** the depositional facies and relatively low sand-shale ratio of the reservoir formations favor the occurrence of stratigraphic *** closure mechanism of all these plays are similar to the traditional structure plays in the area:fault blocks or fault-bounded rollover anticlines,except that one or more closing faults are replaced by these stratigraphic *** small-sized closures should exist but the relatively large ones are centered around a major intra-slope rise,raising the exploration potential in this maturely explored *** new exploration drilling campaign has so far tested the play of delta front channel facies,with three out of four wells commercially *** play concepts open up a novel approach to identify new traps in the study area and many other rift basins with similar settings in eastern China.

Phase Factor Sequences Algorithm in Partial Transmit Sequence

Partial transmit sequence (PTS) is a promising technique for peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) re-duction in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). While in optimal PTS, an exhaustive search for all combinations of phase factor sequences is required, this results in huge computation. In this paper, by introducing the orthogonal design, a phase factor sequences algorithm is proposed. The algorithm uses orthogonal table to gen-erate phase factor sequences, and the regular PAPR computation result is then followed by the parameter estima-tion. The simulation result shows that the proposed algorithm reduces the computation notably and obtains a good PAPR performance approaching the optimal PTS.

Reservoir Characteristics of Fine-grained Sedimentary Rocks in Saline Lakes in the Cenozoic Upper Ganchaigou Formation,Southwestern Qaidam Basin,NW China

Cenozoic fine-grained sedimentary rocks in the southwestern Qaidam Basin,as typical salinized lacustrine sediments,are significantly different from those in other freshwater lakes under the impact of the high salinity in the *** fine-grained sedimentary rock samples were selected from the lower member of Neogene(N_(1))in the Gaskule oilfield,Qaidam Basin,northwest China,with the aim to analyze and test their petrology,pore structure,and organic geochemical characteristics and determine its genesis and geological *** on previous results,a new genesis of mixed sedimentary rocks is *** Cenozoic lacustrine fine-grained sedimentary rocks in SW Qaidam Basin belong to mixed sedimentary rocks,which can be divided into three types,including carbonate and terrigenous clastic-bearing mudstone,carbonate-bearing to terrigenous clastic mixed sedimentary rocks,and carbonate-terrigenous clastic mixed sedimentary *** geneses of mixing are quite different from that of mixed marine *** to the sedimentary characteristics of the salinized lakes,three new geneses of mixed deposits are proposed:syn-sedimentary mixing,varve interbedded mixing,and biogenic *** reservoir spaces of the Cenozoic lacustrine fine-grained sedimentary rocks in SW Qaidam Basin include residual intergranular pores,intercrystalline pores,microfractures,and minor dissolved *** reservoirs have super-low porosity and ultra-low permeability,with a porosity of 1.82%-21.04%,averaging 7.71%,and permeability of(0.0028-254.86)×10^(−3)μm^(2),averaging 2.82×10^(−3)μm^(2).The test results of total organic carbon(TOC)content show that the highest content of organic carbon reached 1.41%,and those of vitrinite reflectance show that Ro ranges from 0.525%-0.824%,with an average of 0.806%.The organic geochemical characteristics show that the fine-grained mixed sedimentary rocks of SW Qaidam Basin have the potential for self-generation and *** an unconventional re

A new diagnostic method for identifying working conditions of submersible reciprocating pumping systems

The submersible pumping unit is a new type of pumping system for lifting formation fluids from onshore oil wells, and the identification of its working condition has an important influence on oil production. In this paper we proposed a diagnostic method for identifying the working condition of the submersible pumping system. Based on analyzing the working principle of the pumping unit and the pump structure, different characteristics in loading and unloading processes of the submersible linear motor were obtained at different working conditions. The characteristic quantities were extracted from operation data of the submersible linear motor. A diagnostic model based on the support vector machine （SVM） method was proposed for identifying the working condition of the submersible pumping unit, where the inputs of the SVM classifier were the characteristic quantities. The performance and the misjudgment rate of this method were analyzed and validated by the data acquired from an experimental simulation platform. The model proposed had an excellent performance in failure diagnosis of the submersible pumping system. The SVM classifier had higher diagnostic accuracy than the learning vector quantization （LVQ） classifier.

Application of fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method to assess effect of conformance control treatments on water-injection wells

Structural geometrical analysis and simulation of decollement growth folds in piedmont Fauqi Anticline of Zagros Mountains, Iraq

This study carried out detailed structural analyses of the plane structural deformation pattern and sectional structural deformation styles of the Fauqi Anticline by the 3D seismic section with full cover collection, and carried out the kinematical simulation of the Fauqi anticlinal deep decollement coupling shallow growth folds and faults based on the fault decollement fold model and the forward balanced geological section technique. The study subsequently evaluated the differentiated petroleum enrichment mechanism of the Fauqi Anticline by utilizing the results of the structural analysis and combining the spatial-temporal relationship analysis of the source, the reservoir, and the caprock. The results showed that the differentiated plane structural deformation pattern and hierarchical sectional structural deformation style were developed by the superposed coupling of deep decollement, syntectonic sedimentation of shallow growth strata, and the compression of the south-west horizontal tectonic stress from the Zagros Mountains. It was found that the differentiated structural deformation caused the differentiated enrichment of petroleum in the Fauqi Anticline. It was also found that the horizontal slip distance of the Fauqi Anticlinal Folds reached around 3.5 km by the simulation of deep decollement coupling the movement of the shallow growth folds and the faults.

Prediction Model of Wax Deposition Rate in Waxy Crude oil Pipelines by Elman Neural Network Based on Improved Reptile Search Algorithm

A hard problem that hinders the movement of waxy crude oil is wax deposition in oil *** ensure the safe operation of crude oil pipelines,an accurate model must be developed to predict the rate of wax deposition in crude oil *** at the shortcomings of the ENN prediction model,which easily falls into the local minimum value and weak generalization ability in the implementation process,an optimized ENN prediction model based on the IRSA is *** validity of the new model was confirmed by the accurate prediction of two sets of experimental data on wax deposition in crude oil *** two groups of crude oil wax deposition rate case prediction results showed that the average absolute percentage errors of IRSA-ENN prediction models is 0.5476% and 0.7831%,***,it shows a higher prediction accuracy compared to the ENN prediction *** fact,the new model established by using the IRSA to optimize ENN can optimize the initial weights and thresholds in the prediction process,which can overcome the shortcomings of the ENN prediction model,such as weak generalization ability and tendency to fall into the local minimum value,so that it has the advantages of strong implementation and high prediction accuracy.
