In the co.text of the nuclear long-lived ILW management, cement-based materials are currently used for waste encapsulation and co.tainers development. Such materials are also likely to be used for engineered barriers in deep repositories. Various types of cement-OPC, blended cments-have been studied, mainly to evaluate materials long-term durability and co.finement properties. Other types of cement such as High Fly ash Silica fume Cement (HFSC) have also been developed for specific needs like the mitigation of high pH plume effects on the clay engineered barrier and on the clay host rock of the disposal facility. The French Atomic Energy co.mission (CEA) and the Japan Nuclear Cycle Development Institute (JNC) performed a co.parative joint study on the leaching behaviour of hardened cement pastes based on these cements. Leaching experiments were carried out with a standard test developed at CEA. Experimental results were analysed and cross-calculations were made to estimate calcium fluxes and degraded thicknesses using CEA Diffu-Ca and JNC TRACE 1D co.es. Experimental and modelling results were co.pared and modelling strategies were then discussed.

Hydrogen technologies and fuel cells offer an alternative and improved solution for a decarbonised energy *** cells are electrochemical co.verters;transforming hydrogen (or energy sources co.taining hydrogen) and oxygen directly into *** hydrogen fuel cell,invented in 1839,permits the generation of electrical energy with high efficiency through a non-co.bustion,electrochemical process and,importantly,without the emission ofits point of ***,despite numerous efforts to exploit the obvious attractions of hydrogen technologies and hydrogen fuel cells,various challenges have been enco.ntered,some of which are reviewed ***,however,given the exigent need to urgently seek low-carbon paths for humankind’s energy future,numerous co.ntries are advancing the deployment of hydrogen technologies and hydrogen fuel cells not only for transport,but also as a means of the storage of excess renewable energy from,for example,wind and solar ***,hydrogen is also being blended into the natural gas supplies used in domestic heating and targeted in the decarbonisation of critical,large-scale industrial processes such as steel *** briefly review specific examples in co.ntries such as Japan,South Korea and the People’s Republic of China,as well as selected examples from Europe and North America in the utilization of hydrogen technologies and hydrogen fuel cells.

The intra-formational seal capability was characterized by multi-layered shale baffles to act as the primary or ultimate cap system, were taken into acco.nt by homogeneous and heterogeneous models, respectively. In this study, the relevant ranges of input parameter of porosity （20%-35%） and permeability （0.0001-1,000 mD）, respectively for the sandstone （storage layers） and shale （seals） have been selected, acco.ding to results of large amount of laboratory co.e, test from pilot 3,000 m drilling within Tai-Hsi Foreland Basin in Western Taiwan. By a co.prehensive geological model, typical single well injected plume migration scenarios were stochastically simulated which co.ered a 20-year co.tinuous injection （one Mt-co. per year） followed by a 1,000-year post-injection monitoring. The co.responding 2-D MHMD （maximum horizontal migration distances） of co. plume in the storage reservoir had been calculated with respect to heterogeneous reservoir models and their homogeneous co.nterparts. Moreover, the induced pressures at critical monitoring points above the injection zone were also evaluated. As a result, the shale baffles of intra-formational seal in a saline aquifers are proven to play a vital role, and capable of ensuring the safe carbon storage operation within a basin scale with a depth range about 2,100-2,500 mRT.

The Lower Mississippi River flows from the co.fluence of the Ohio River and Mississippi River at Cairo, Illinois into the Gulf of Mexico. Mississippi River and Ohio River pathway shifts have shaped and re-shaped the landscapes through which they flow and where their sediment-laden tributary waters co.mingle at the co.fluence on the voyage to the Gulf of Mexico. For much of their history, the lands adjacent to the Lower Mississippi River were bottomlands that flooded with the seasons unco.strained by human river training structures. Since 1717 European nations have fought over strategic navigational co.trol of the Mississippi River. After the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, the United States took co.trolled the Lower Mississippi River. During the Civil War, from 1861-1865, the Union and co.federate forces battled for navigational co.trol of the Lower Mississippi River. The primary objective of this paper was to highlight how the strategic navigational and flooding co.trol of the Lower Mississippi River and geological and landscape resources were responsible for the successful eco.omic development of this rich historical region of North America.

Iraq, like most Middle Eastern co.ntries, is suffering from the effects of Climate Change. The effects are in form of deterioration and degradation of lands, including agricultural lands, an increase in dust storms, an increase in daily temperatures, decreasing annual rainfall, decreasing annual snowfall, decreasing annual water inco.e in the main rivers, streams and ephemeral wadis, increasing of desertification, increasing of areas co.ered by sand dunes, decreasing of green areas, decreasing of wetlands. Acco.ding to regional studies, the living co.ditions and environment after 3 - 4 decades in Iraq and some neighboring co.ntries will be very difficult, especially due to increasing daily temperatures and decreasing annual rainfall. To co.duct the current study, we have reviewed tens of published articles, and scientific reports followed by relevant interviews on TV, and daily observations of events caused by climate change. One of the most co.mon reasons for climate change is the emission of co., and the most co.mon reason co.tributing to the increase of the effects of climate change is the absence of awareness in the co.munity and the deficient official preparedness. The preparedness, however, to avoid and/ or mitigate the effects of climate change is very low, not only on the governmental level but also on popular scales. Therefore, the harsh effect of climate change increasing in severity and causing great damage to infrastructure, and personal properties, and is leading to more causalities. Reco.mendations to mitigate the co.sequences of climate change are given in two scales, governmental and popular.
