Greenhouse gas reduction of co.benefit-type wastewater treatment system for fish-processing industry: A real-scale case study in Indonesia

This study examined the application of co.benefit-type wastewater treatment technology in the fish-processing industry. Given that there was a dearth of information on fish-processing industrial wastewater in Indonesia, site surveys were co.ducted. For the entire fish-processing industry throughout the co.ntry, the dissemination rate of wastewater treatment facilities was less than 50%. Using a co.benefit approach, a real-scale swim-bed technology (SBT) and a system co.bining an anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) with SBT (ABR–SBT) were installed in a fishmeal processing factory in Bali, Indonesia, and the wastewater system process performance was evaluated. In a business-as-usual scenario, the estimated chemical oxygen demand load and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from wastewater from the Indonesian fish-processing industry were 33 000 tons per year and 220 000 tons of equivalent co.(2) per year, respectively. On the other hand, the GHG emissions in the co.benefit scenarios of the SBT system and ABR–SBT system were 98 149 and 26 720 tons per year, respectively. Therefore, introducing co.benefit-type wastewater treatment to Indonesia’s fish-processing industry would significantly reduce pollution loads and GHG emissions.

Structural and optical properties of nanostructured co.per sulfide semico.ductor synthesized in an industrial mill

Chalco.enide nanostructured semico.ductor, co.per sulfide (CuS) was prepared from co.per and sulfur powders in stoichiometric ratio by a simple, fast, and co.venient one-step mechanochemical synthesis after 40 min of milling in an industrial eccentric vibratory mill. The kinetics of the mechanochemical synthesis and the influence of the physical properties of two Cu powder precursor types on the kinetics were studied. The crystal structure, physical properties, and morphology of the product were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), the specific surface area measurements, particle size distribution and scanning electron microsco.y. The XRD analysis co.firmed the hexagonal crystal structure of the product-CuS (co.ellite) with the average size of the crystallites 11 nm. The scanning electron microsco.y analysis has revealed that the agglomerated grains have a plate-like structure co.posed of CuS nanoparticles. The thermal analysis was performed to investigate the thermal stability of the mechanochemically synthesized CuS. The optical properties were studied using UV-Vis and photoluminescence spectrosco.y. The determined optical band gap energy 1.80 eV responds to the value of the bulk CuS, because of agglomerated nanoparticles. In addition, a mechanism of CuS mechanochemical reaction was proposed, and the verification of CuS co.mercial production was performed.

On the Pressure Drop and the Velocity Distribution in the Cylindrical Vortex Chamber with Two Inlet Pipes for the co.trol of Vortex Flow

Vortex flow is applied to a cyclone dust co.lector, a vortex co.bustion chamber, and a vortex diode for vortex co.trol. In order to apply the vortex flow to the industries, it is necessary to keep the stable flow co.dition and to estimate the response time of the transient flow process and also the intensity of the vortex flow. For co.trol vortex flow, two types of vortex chamber with two inlet pipes were designed. One of them is to promote the vortex flow named as co.Rotating Flow System and another one is to hinder the vortex flow named as co.nter-Rotating Flow System. The pressure drops and the velocity distributions were measured for these vortex chambers. The estimation of the tangential velocity by the application of the angular momentum flux is co.pared with the measured velocity by a cylindrical Pitot-tube. The characteristics of the total pressure drop co.ld be explained by introducing the circulation.

Specific Surface Free Energy of As-Grown and Polished Faces of Synthetic Quartz

co.tact angles of water droplet on as-grown Z, +X, –X, and m faces of synthetic quartz crystals with growth term of 20 and 48 days, and polished Z, +X, –X, Y, and 45° cut faces of synthetic quartz crystal were observed. The average of the co.tact angles on as-grown Z, +X, and –X faces increased with the growth term, and they were larger than that on polished Z, +X, and –X faces. On the other hand, the average of the co.tact angles of water on m face decreased with the growth term, and they were smaller than that on polished Y cut face. Growth rate of the faces of synthetic crystals was measured and the order of growth rate was, m co.responds to the order of the growth rate. The SSFE was larger for the face with larger growth rate.

The oil-gas two-phase hybrid transportation technology is one of the innovative technology directions for the exploitation and transportation of marginal and deep ocean *** helical-axial multiphase pump is a key equipment for oil and gas *** this stage,most of the research on this kind of pump focuses on the improvement of the structure and co.veying ***,because of insufficient understanding of the flow behavior and mechanism of bubbles,it is easy to cause the gas-liquid *** this paper,the numerical simulation and test are co.bined to explore the changes in the bubble trajectory and flow structure of the helical-axial multiphase *** results shown that when the speed is lower than 1200 r/min,the bubble reaches the maximum volume at 1/2 of the midline of the impeller blade and it co.tact with the pressure surface,broken to the suction *** the rotation speed is higher than 1450 r/min,the number of bubbles in the impeller increases and the size *** backflow occurs in the tip clearance and strength increases *** research results have important significance for the theoretical design and engineering application of the helical-axial multiphase pump.

Retrospective Evaluation for ORCA Surveillance co.parison with Prescription Surveillance

Background: “Online Receipt co.puter Advantage” (ORCA) surveillance, an online medical claim service produced and provided freely to medical facilities by the Japan Medical Association, has been available for public use since 2010. However, its preciseness has not been evaluated. The object of the present study is co.parison with ORCA surveillance and prescription surveillance (PS), which is the most reliable daily surveillance for influenza nationwide in Japan, and evaluating preciseness of ORCA surveillance. Method: We specifically examined influenza as a targeted disease. We regarded PS as the gold standard daily real-time monitoring system for influenza nationwide and for each prefecture. This study assesses co.relation and discrepancies between ORCA and PS results for influenza nationwide and by prefecture. Results: Nationwide, the co.relation co.fficient of PS and ORCA was 0.9653;the discrepancy rate was 27%. Among prefectures, results show that Mie and Fukui prefectures had two quite similar epidemic curves. co.clusion: Results demonstrate that ORCA surveillance is co.parable to PS nationwide. However, some prefectures exhibited co.parable results whereas others did not. ORCA surveillance cannot break down to the municipal level.

Short Term Prediction of Infectious Diseases Patients from Prescription Surveillance

In Japan, the incidence of almost all co.mon pediatric infectious diseases has been monitored, with 7 - 10 day delays, at medical institutions through the National Official Sentinel Surveillance of Infectious Diseases (NOSSID). On the other hand, based on prescriptions filled at external pharmacies, Prescription Surveillance (PS) co.lects information and provides estimated numbers of influenza, varicella, and gastroenteritis infectious (GI) patients to the public the following morning. For precise, and real-time estimation of incidences of co.mon pediatric infectious diseases, we evaluated predictive power of PS for diseases other than influenza, varicella, and GI. Results demonstrated that PS information has sufficient predictive power for pharyngoco.junctival fever, group A streptoco.cal pharyngitis, exanthem subitum, and mumps, some predictive power for RS virus infection, erythema infectiosum and herpangina, but insufficient predictive power for hand, foot and mouth disease.

Anti-inflammatory activity of probiotic Bifidobacterium: Enhancement of IL-10 production in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from ulcerative co.itis patients and inhibition of IL-8 secretion in HT-29 cells

AIM: To determine the anti-inflammatory activity of probiotic Bifidobacteria in Bifidobacteria-fermented milk (BFM) which is effective against active ulcerative co.itis (UC) and exacerbations of UC, and to explore the immunoregulatory mechanisms. METHODS: Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMNC) from UC patients or HT-29 cells were co.cultured with heat-killed probiotic bacteria or culture supernatant of Bifidobacterium breve strain Yakult (BbrY) or Bifidobacterium bifidum strain Yakult (BbiY) to estimate the amount of IL-10 or IL-8 secreted. RESULTS: Both strains of probiotic Bifidobacteria co.tained in the BFM induced IL-10 production in PBMNC from UC patients, though BbrY was more effective than BbiY. co.ditioned medium (CM) and DNA of both strains inhibited IL-8 secretion in HT-29 cells stimulated with TNF-α, whereas no such effect was observed with heat- killed bacteria. The inhibitory effect of CM derived from BbiY was greater than that of CM derived from BbrY. DNAs of the two strains had a co.parable inhibitory activity against the secretion of IL-8. CM of BbiY induced a repression of IL-8 gene expression with a higher expression of IκB-ζ mRNA 4 h after culture of HT-29 cells co.pared to that in the absence of ***: Probiotic Bifidobacterium strains in BFM enhance IL-10 production in PBMNC and inhibit IL-8 secretion in intestinal epithelial cells, suggesting that BFM has anti-inflammatory effects against ulcerative co.itis.
