The change in the distribution of organisms in freshwater ecosystems due to natural or manmade processes raises the question of the impact of alien species on local *** most studies indicate a negative effect,the positive one is more difficult to discern,espe-cially in multispecies systems,including hosts and *** purpose of the study was to check whether the presence of an alien host,Potamopyrgus antipodarum,reduces the intensity of Echinoparyphium aconiatum metacercariae in a native host,Radix *** additionally tested the impact of water temperature and the biomass of the alien host on the dilution *** experimentally studied(1)the lifespan of echinostome cercariae in different temperatures,(2)the infectivity of cercariae toward the alien host and native host,and(3)the impact of different biomass of the alien host on the intensity of metacercariae in the native *** found that cercarial survival and infectivity were tem-perature ***,cercarial survival decreased with increasing temperature,contrary to cercarial *** cercariae entered the renal cavity of both the native host and alien host,and successfully transformed into *** number of metacercariae in the native host decreased with the increasing biomass of the alien *** results indicate that lymnaeids may benefit from the co-occur-rence with P antipodarum,as the presence of additional hosts of different origins may reduce the prevalence of parasites in native ***,the scale of the dilution effect depends not only on the increased spectrum of susceptible hosts but also on the other variables of the environment,including water temperature and host density.

Endoscopic pancreatogastric anastomosis in the treatment of symptoms associated with inflammatory diseases of the pancreas

Assessment of individual costs of the anti-predator defence translating into changes in population parameters is *** is because prey responses are likely to be modulated by additional factors,commonly present in the environment,but often neglected in experimental *** evaluate the effect of external factors on prey behavior and physiology,we exposed amphipods Dikerogammarus villosus and Gammarus jazdzewskii to the predation cue of Perca fluviatilis in different densities and light *** of both species exposed to the predation cue in light modified their oxygen consumption(***:reduction,***:increase)compared to their respiration in predator-free ***,in the presence of conspecifics or in darkness,their respiration became insensitive to the predation *** the other hand,the swimming activity of prey was reduced in the presence of the predation cue irrespective of prey density and light conditions,but singletons were consistently more active than ***,external factors,such as conspecifics and darkness,constantly or periodically occurring in the field,may reduce the costs of predator non-consumptive effects compared to the costs measured under laboratory conditions(in light or absence of conspecifics).Moreover,we showed that behavioral and physiological parameters of prey may change differently in response to predation ***,conclusions drawn on the basis of single defence mechanisms and/or results obtained in artificial conditions,not reflecting the environmental complexity,strongly depend on the experimental design and endpoint selection and therefore should be treated with care.

Modifying current thin-film microextraction(TFME)solutions for analyzing prohibited substances:Evaluating new coatings using liquid chromatography

For identifying and quantifying prohibited substances,solid-phase microextraction(SPME)continues to arouse interest as a sample preparation ***,the practical implementation of this method in routine laboratory testing is currently hindered by the limited number of coatings compatible with the ubiquitous high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC)*** octadecyl(C18)and polydimethylsiloxane/divinylbenzene ligands are currently marketed for this *** address this situation,the present study evaluated 12 HPLC-compatible coatings,including several chemistries not currently used in this *** stationary phases of SPME devices in the geometry of thin filmcoated blades were prepared by applying silica particles bonded with various functional ligands(C18,octyl,phenyl-hexyl,3-cyanopropyl,benzenesulfonic acid,and selected combinations of these),as well as unbonded silica,to a metal *** of these chemistries have not been previously used as microextraction *** 48 most commonly misused substances were selected to assess the extraction efficacy of each coating,and eight desorption solvent compositions were used to optimize the desorption *** samples were analyzed using an HPLC system coupled with triple quadrupole tandem mass *** evaluation enables selection of the best-performing coatings for quantifying prohibited substances and investigates the relationship between extraction efficacy and the physicochemical characteristics of the ***,using the most suitable coatings is essential for trace-level analysis of chemically diverse prohibited substances.

Influence of stabilizers on the antimicrobial properties of silver nanoparticles introduced into natural water

Physical, chemical and biochemical properties of silver nanoparticles （AgNPs） depend to a great extent on their size, shape, size distribution, and stabilizers located on their surface. This study focused on two typical stabilizers, namely citrates （cit）, low molecular ions protecting nanoparticles by electrostatic repulsion, and polyvinylpyrrolidone （PVP）, a hydrophilic, neutral, high molecular polymer protecting nanoparficles by steric stabilization. Natural bacterioplankton was collected from a eutrophic, downtown lake and exposed to five concentrations （0.1-5 mg/L） of AgNPs-PVP and AgNPs-cit. Responses were monitored after 1, 3, 5 and 7 days of exposure, by evaluating the survival rate of bacteria, their respiratory activity, and the general activity of extracellular esterases. A significantly better （greater） survival rate of bacterioplankton was observed in water with an addition of AgNPs-cit. The inhibition of extracellular esterases was observed only in samples containing AgNPs-PVP. The inhibitory effect increased proportionally to the concentration of AgNPs-PVP applied. Within the studied concentration range, there was no statistically significant inhibition of bacterioplankton respiratorv activity bv AgNPs-PVP and AgNPs-cit.

Differences in predator-avoidance behavior between two invasive gobies and their native competitors

Globally,fish are frequently introduced beyond their native ***,like Ponto-Caspian gobies,are becoming invasive,achieving high colo-nization rates and constituting frequent prey for native ***,little is known about the effectiveness of antipredator behaviors of the invaders,which may shape their role in the invaded community and contribute to the invasion *** compared antipredator behaviors of invasive gobies and native fish species after their detection by the predator,when the danger becomes *** studied 2 fish pairs,each consisting of an invasive and native species co-occurring in the environment and belonging to the same prey guild:(1)the racer goby Babka gymnotrachelus versus European bulhead Cottus gobio,(2)the monkey goby Neogobius fluviatilis versus gudgeon Gobio gobio,facing a naive predator(the Eurasian perch Perca fluviatilis).We analyzed behaviors of single prey individuals(escaping,staying in shelter,and activity)and sin-gle predators(activity,searching,following,capturing,and latency to prey consumption).In the predator presence,the bullhead was less active and more often managed to escape after capture than the racer *** gudgeon escaped before the capture more often than the monkey *** predator succeeded later with the bullhead compared to racer goby,whereas no differences in ingestion time occurred between the gudgeon and monkey *** results suggest that,in terms of hunting effort of native predators,the invasive gobies are equivalent to or more profitable prey than their native analogs,which can facilitate the integration of the gobies into local food webs.

The ability to determine the locations of phosphorous dopants in silicon is crucial for the design,modelling,and analysis of atom-based nanoscale devices for future quantum computing ***,several papers showed that a metrology of scanning tunnelling microscopy(STM)imaging combined with atomistic tight-binding simulations could be used to determine coordinates of a dopant buried close to a Si *** identify effects which play a crucial role in the simulation of STM images and have to be precisely modelled for STM imaging of buried dopants and multi-dopant clusters to provide reliable position *** contrast to previous work,we demonstrate that a metrology combining STM imaging with tight-binding simulations may lead to pronounced uncertainty due to tip orbital model,effects of dangling bonds and choice of local atomic basis for the tight-binding *** work is still needed to obtain a reliable STM metrology of buried dopant position.

The evolutionary status of chemically peculiar eclipsing binary star DV Boo

Eclipsing binary systems are unique stellar objects to examine and understand stellar evolution and *** to these systems,the fundamental stellar parameters(mass,radius)can be obtained very *** existence of metallic-line(Am)stars in binaries is noticeably ***,the known number of Am stars in eclipsing binaries is *** Am stars in eclipsing binaries are extremely useful to deeply investigate the properties of Am stars,as eclipsing binaries are the only tool to directly derive the fundamental stellar ***,the atmospheric parameters and metallicities of such binary components could be obtained by a detailed spectroscopic ***,in this study,we present a comprehensive photometric and spectroscopic analysis of the eclipsing binary system DV Boo which has a possible Am *** fundamental stellar parameters were determined by the analysis of radial velocity and photometric light *** atmospheric parameters of both binary components of DV Boo were derived considering the disentangled *** chemical abundance analysis was carried out as *** a result,we showed that the primary component exhibits a typical Am star chemical abundance *** fundamental stellar parameters of the binary components were also obtained with an accuracy of<1%for masses and<3%for *** evolutionary status of DV Boo was examined utilizing the precisely obtained stellar *** age of the system was found to be 1.00±0.08 Gyr.

Urban green resilience: Experience from post-industrial cities in Poland

De-industrialisation triggered economic,spatial and environmental changes in ***,this study identifies whether there has been a reorientation of spatial development in post-industrial cities towards the creation of green *** aim of the study is to analyse and evaluate the transformation of green spaces in 32 major cities in Poland,including 12 post-industrial *** sources were vector land cover data models from the Urban Atlas for 2006 and 2018,administrative boundaries from the National Boundary Register and building layers from the Topographic Objects *** research procedure was carried out using the GIS environment,through spatial analysis,geoprocessing algorithms,and spatial *** results have shown that post-industrial cities do not develop their urban resi-lience based on the expansion of green spaces and,consequently,do not build green urban *** addition,the research has proven that the greatest loss of green spaces is noticeable in parts of post-industrial cities with medium and high development intensity,where there is an intensification of con-struction *** dominant direction of the transformation of green spaces has been the conversion of agricultural areas into green spaces(87.79%).In contrast,the main direction of loss in green space has been the creation of new industrial units(24.80%)and the expansion of the urban fabric(23.53%).The article is original due to the fact that there is a gap in the literature regarding the study of green spaces in post-industrial cities with regard to the concept of green urban resilience.
