Numerical evaluation of enhanced green infrastructures for mitigating urban heat in a desert urban setting

The cities of desert climates are anticipated to recognize a synergy of urban heat island(UHI)and severe heat waves during *** improve the urban thermal environment,the present study aims quantitatively explore a strategically designed network of vegetation patches called green infrastructure(GI)in subtropical desert cities such as *** achieve a more comfortable temperature environment,we built and simulated four GI situations with higher GI fractions,GI25,GI50,GI75,and *** a mesoscale urban model,the mosaic approach is utilized to test potential thermal improvement and urban climate impact,and a portion of each urban grid cell in the model domain is altered with various species of urban vegetation patches by 25%,50%,75%,and 100%.The daily peak reduction in ambient temperature at 17:00LT is similar to 0.0168℃ per unit of GI increase when compared to the untreated scenario;however,the maximum anticipated daytime summer temperature decline for GI25,GI50,GI75,and GI100 is 0.6℃,1.1℃,1.4℃,and 1.7℃,*** associated reduction in nighttime ambient temperature per unit increase in the GI is 0.0432℃,with a maximum temperature drop of around 2.4℃ for the GI100 *** GI reduces the height of the planetary boundary layer(PBL)by up to 468 m,which might lead to greater pollution *** GI-based cooling has a significant influence on delayed sea breeze and humidity,it may raise the risk of heat discomfort in the indoor building *** study adds to our understanding of the potential for GI mitigation as well as the seasonal impact of developing GIs on the desert urban boundary layer.

Usefulness of computed tomography based three-dimensional reconstructions to assess the critical shoulder angle

BACKGROUND The critical shoulder angle(CSA)is a radiographic measurement that provides an assessment of both glenoid inclination and acromial *** values may correlate with the presence of rotator cuff ***,it is difficult to obtain a high-quality true anteroposterior(AP)radiograph of the shoulder,with any excess scapular version or flexion/extension resulting in deviation from the true CSA ***-dimensional(3D)bony reconstructions of computed tomography(CT)shoulder scans may be able to be rotated to obtain a similar view to that of true AP *** To compare CSA measurements performed on 3D bony CT reconstructions,with those on corresponding true AP *** CT shoulder scans were matched with true AP radiographs that were classified as either Suter-Henninger type A or C quality.3D bony reconstructions were segmented from the CT scans,and rotated to replicate an ideal true AP *** observers performed CSA measurements using both CT and radiographic *** were repeated after a one week *** was assessed using intraclass correlation coefficients(ICCs)and Bland-Altman plots[bias,limits of agreement(LOA)].RESULTS Twenty CT shoulder scans were *** mean CSA values were 32.55°(±4.26°)with radiographs and 29.82°(±3.49°)with the CT-based method[mean difference 2.73°(±2.86°);P<0.001;bias+2.73°;LOA-2.17°to+7.63°].There was a strong correlation between the two methods(r=0.748;P<0.001).Intra-observer reliability was similar,but the best intra-observer values were achieved by the most experienced observer using the CT-based method[ICC:0.983(0.958-0.993);bias+0.03°,LOA-1.28°to+1.34°].Inter-observer reliability was better with the CT-based method[ICC:0.897(0.758-0.958),bias+0.24°,LOA-2.93°to+3.41°].CONCLUSION The described CT-based method may be a suitable alternative for critical shoulder angle measurement,as it overcomes the difficulty in obtaining a true AP radiographic view.

BACKGROUND Little is known about the safety and efficacy of using two or more biologics for the treatment of immune-mediated diseases,including Crohn’s disease(CD).CASE SUMMARY This case report and narrative review demonstrate the potential safety of dual biologic therapy(DBT)in a 45-year-old female with two separate immunemediated *** had a history of multiple sclerosis for which she was receiving treatment with ocrelizumab,and she had been recently diagnosed with CD after presenting with *** CD diagnosis was confirmed radiologically,endoscopically,histologically,and *** patient received treatment with vedolizumab,a gut-specific inhibitor of theα4β7 integrin on *** adverse reactions were observed for the duration of *** safety of ocrelizumab and vedolizumab for the treatment of different immune-mediated diseases was *** DBT may be a safe and effective option for the treatment of refractory disease or multiple immunemediated *** biologics,which have improved safety profiles and gut specificity,may provide promising avenues for ***,caution must be exercised in the appropriate selection of biologics given their inherent immunosuppressive properties,side effects,and efficacy *** evidence suggests that biologic therapy is not associated with a worse prognosis in patients with coronavirus disease 2019,but treatment decisions should be made in a multidisciplinary *** research from controlled trials is needed to better understand the safety profile of DBT in *** immunopathological mechanisms underlying DBT also remain to be clarified.

Bastnaesite((Ce,La,Pr,Nd)CO_(3)F) is a significant light rare earth mineral found in nature,known for its fine-grained *** is commonly employed for the recovery of fine-grained bastnaesite *** serve as an essential flotation reagent that enhance the surface hydrophobicity of target minerals.A novel collector,N-hydroxy-9-octadecenamide(N-OH-9-ODA),was synthesised in this study.N-OH-9-ODA exhibits superior selectivity compared to the traditional collector oleic acid in the flotation separation of bastnaesite and *** experimental and co mputational results indicate that N-OH-9-ODA exhibits superior selectivity due to its higher adsorption affinity for bastnaesite surface compared to fluorite *** zeta potential and the binding energies of the Ce 3d peaks in the X-ray photoelectron spectrum(XPS) of bastnaesite surface exhibit significant ***,fluorite surface demonstrates minimal alterations in its zeta potential and the binding energies of the Ca 2p peaks in its XPS after its interaction with N-OH-9-ODA.

Propagating subduction initiation of the Caroline Plate at the Mussau Trench

new seismic imaging from the Mussau Trench confirms that, under horizontal compression on an oceanic plate boundary, it is within the young and weak oceanic plate that a trench will develop, and it is the young plate, not so long after its birth, that starts to subduct toward the old plate. The Mesozoic Pacific Plate cannot easily bend, under the joint horizontal compression and vertical gravity pull, even with a pre-existing weak zone in place and with a large age offset across the plate boundary. The bending of the Caroline Plate near the northern end of the Mussau Trench started only after a long-time span of trench migration, and/or after a prolonged transition from initial compression to trench development. Highly contrasting trench deformation and sedimentary accretion between two parallel seismic sections support an evident migration of underthrusting or significant longitudinal heterogeneity along the trench. The swift transition from underthrusting to non-thrusting can be explained by a counter-clockwise rotation of the Caroline Plate. That miniature accretionary wedges develop even before the subduction initiates imply strong compression and uplifting before the underthrusting can kick-start. Rotation of the Caroline Plate have been halted as the Mussau Trench is seismically rather quiet and the Lyra Trough to the east shows relaxational extension.

The outcomes of modern ophthalmic surgery,especially cataract surgery,continue to improve and patients now realistically expect an excellent and speedy outcome with good vision and few *** and regulatory demands for greater transparency and accountability in medicine have increased,highlighting a fundamental ethical tension in medical education-balancing the needs of trainees(who have not yet mastered the technique)to gain experience by performing surgery,with patient safety and the needs of the public to be protected from *** safety and well-being are the paramount considerations in any training program and must be the first consideration in program design.A variety of different educational strategies,each implemented with the aim of improving operative skills assessment and teaching,has recently been described in the *** use of these educational tools,combined with a structured approach to teaching and providing meaningful feedback,could improve outcomes,decrease complications and improve the quality and efficiency of surgical training in *** must assess their teaching style and communication,as being a good surgeon does not necessarily make a good *** disclosure must be given to patients about who will be performing the surgery,and communication during surgery between supervisors and trainees must be clear,respectful and appropriate.

Instability characteristics of the cracked roof rock beam under shallow mining conditions

To establish the movement relationship for the roof breaking under shallow mining conditions, the mechanical model of the roof rock beam was built, then the structure instability process of the roof rock beam was analyzed. The changing criterion of the vertical displacement was established and the relationship between the deflection and the rotary motion of roof block was determined. Regarding a mining face in Shangwan Mine, the responsing laws of the deflection and horizontal thrust of the roof rock beam were obtained through FLAC3D numerical analysis. The results show that the structure instability of the cracked roof rock beam depends on the interaction between the vertical load and the horizontal *** the roof rock beam, when the vertical load keeps constant, the horizontal thrust fluctuating rises with increasing deflection. The horizontal thrust increases constantly with the deeper buried depth and the smaller span.

Textual Anticipation and the Putative Reader in Persuasive Discourse

The notion that’monologic’written texts construe for themselves a putative addressee(variously termed the’ideal’,’imagined’,’virtual’,’intended’,’model’or’mock’reader)has received a great deal of scholarly attention,initially by scholars of literary fiction and subsequently by discourse analysts more *** paper is concerned with putative-reader positioning in persuasive texts and with how,through observing the relationships of alignment and dis-alignment which the author enters into with this putative reader,it is possible to better understand the rhetorical workings of these *** specifically,it demonstrates how,through an analysis of which beliefs,expectations and attitudes the author projects onto this putative addressee it is possible to better understand how such a text may be persuasive,to more systematically describe the’compliant readings’associated with a text and to more thoroughly deal with’ideological’workings of persuasive texts as they naturalize particular value systems and world *** outlining and demonstrating an approach to analyses of putative-addressee positioning,the paper draws on prior work in literary criticism scholarship and in university composition *** primary focus,however,is on developing prior work on the putative addressee in the appraisal-framework literature,in particular work which has attended to the role of the resources of dialogistic positioning(ENGAGEMENT)in’writing the reader into the text’.

Understanding sheep baa-haviour: Investigating the relationship between pasture and animal grazing patterns

Background:Grasslands are the primary source of feed for grazing livestock,and as such,knowledge on how to best manage livestock and grasslands,through the use of spatiotemporal modelling,will assist in the long-term management of a valuable ecosystem ***:This study was conducted over 14 months between March and April 2017 in Orange,NSW,*** study evaluated sheep behaviour in relation to the presence of pasture species,environment and paddock structures,using random forest modelling,to predict sheep location under continuous high(HSR,13 DSE ha−1)and low(LSR,7DSE ha−1)stocking ***:In the LSR,significant drivers included water,shade and fence lines(p<0.01).In the HSR,only fence lines and available biomass were found to be significant(p<0.01).The presence of green legumes in both stocking rates often increased residency by *** spent more time together in the LSR,suggesting that social behaviour played a larger role than pasture quantity and quality in driving grazing ***:Understanding how pasture type can influence grazing behaviours and also how animal behaviour affects pasture performance and utilisation is important in developing long-term sustainable management strategies on a paddock scale.
