A simple approach to enhance the photocatalytic activity of red phosphorus（P） was developed.A mechanical ball milling method was applied to reduce the size of red P and to deposit graphene quantum dots onto red P. The product was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, contact angle measurements, zeta-potential measurements, X-ray diffraction and UV–vis absorption spectroscopy. The product exhibited high visible-light-driven photocatalytic performance in the photodegradation of rhodamine B.

Quantification of non-coding RNA target localization diversity and its application in cancers

SubceUular localization is pivotal for RNAs and proteins to implement biological functions. The localization diversity of protein interactions has been studied as a crucial feature of proteins, considering that the protein-protein interactions take place in vari- ous subceltutar locations. Nevertheless, the localization diversity of non-coding RNA （ncRNA） target proteins has not been sys- tematically studied, especially its characteristics in cancers. In this study, we provide a new algorithm, non-coding RNA target localization coefficient （ncTALENT）, to quantify the target localization diversity of ncRNAs based on the ncRNA-protein interaction and protein subcellular localization data. ncTALENT can be used to calculate the target localization coefficient of ncRNAs and measure how diversely their targets are distributed among the subcellular locations in various scenarios. We focus our study on long non-coding RNAs （IncRNAs）, and our observations reveal that the target localization diversity is a primary characteristic of IncRNAs in different biotypes. Moreover, we found that IncRNAs in multiple cancers, differentially expressed cancer IncRNAs, and IncRNAs with multiple cancer target proteins are prone to have high target localization diversity. Furthermore, the analysis of gastric cancer helps us to obtain a better understanding that the target localization diversity of IncRNAs is an important feature closely related to clinical prognosis. Overall, we systematically studied the target localization diversity of the IncRNAs and uncovered its association with cancer.

BACKGROUND: Significant hemorrhage together with blood transfusion increases postoperative morbidity and mortality of hepatic resection. Hepatic vascular occlusion is effective in minimizing bleeding during hepatic parenchymal transection. This article aimed to review the current role and status of various techniques of hepatic vascular occlusion during hepatic resection. DATA SOURCES: The relevant manuscripts were identified by searching MEDLINE, and PubMed for articles published between January 1980 and April 2010 using the keywords 'vascular control', 'vascular clamping', 'vascular exclusion' and 'hepatectomy'. Additional papers were identified by a manual search of the references from the key articles. RESULTS: One randomized controlled trial (RCT) and 5 RCTs showed intermittent Pringle maneuver and ischemic preconditioning followed by continuous Pringle maneuver were superior to continuous Pringle maneuver alone, respectively. Two RCTs compared the outcomes of hepatectomy with and without intermittent Pringle maneuver. One showed Pringle maneuver to be beneficial, while the other failed to show any benefit. One RCT showed that ischemic preconditioning had significantly less blood loss than using intermittent Pringle maneuver. Four RCTs evaluated the use of hemihepatic vascular occlusion. One RCT showed it had significantly less blood loss than Pringle maneuver, while the other 3 showed no significant difference. Only 1 RCT showed it had significantly less liver ischemic injury. No RCT had been carried out to assess segmental vascular occlusion. Two RCTs compared the outcomes of total hepatic vascular exclusion (THVE) and Pringle maneuver. One RCT showed THVE resulted in similar blood loss, but a higher postoperative complication. The other RCT showed less blood loss using THVE but the postoperative complication rate was similar. Ligand modifications have played a crucial role in developing new catalyst precursors. A novel class of “constrained-geometry”ligands bearing a carboanion functionality has been developed by linking o-carboranyl and n-ligand together. They offer group 4 metal complexes higher activity in olefin polymerization compared to those with appeoded heteroatom systems. The results show that the [{η^5：σ-Me2A（C5H4）（C2B10H10）}M] moiety remains intact in olefin polymerization and insertion reactions of various unsaturated molecules, and the electron-deficient yet sterically hindered icosahedral carborane does play an important role in the reactions. This article provides an overview of our recent work on this subject.

BACKGROUND:Caudate lobectomy has long been considered technically *** study aimed to elaborate the significance of early control of short hepatic portal veins(SHPVs) in isolated hepatic caudate lobectomy or in hepatic caudate lobectomy combined with major partial hepatectomy,and to describe the anatomical characteristics of ***:The data of 117 patients who underwent either isolated or combined caudate lobectomy by the same team of surgeons from 2005 to 2009 were retrospectively *** 2005 to 2007(group A,n=55),we carried out early control of short hepatic veins(SHVs) only;from 2008 to 2009(group B,n=62),we carried out early control of both SHVs and *** two groups were compared to evaluate which surgical procedure was better.A detailed anatomical study was then carried out on the last 25 consecutive patients in group B to study the number and distribution of SHPVs during ***:Patients in group B had less intra-operative blood loss,less impairment of liver function,shorter postoperative hospital stay,fewer postoperative complications and required less blood transfusion(P<0.05).The number of SHPVs in the 25 patients was 183,with 7.3±2.7 per *** diameters of SHPVs were 1 to 4 *** average,3.4 SHPVs/patient came from the left portal vein,2.2 from the bifurcation,1.4 from the right portal vein,and 0.3 from the main portal *** average,3.3 SHPVs/patient supplied segment I of the liver,0.4 for segment II,2.1 for segment IV,1.4 for segment V and 0.1 for segment ***:Early control of SHPVs in isolated or combined hepatic caudate lobectomy may be a useful method to decrease surgical risk and improve postoperative recovery.

Quantum sensing,using quantum properties of sensors,can enhance resolution,precision,and sensitivity of imaging,spectroscopy,and *** intriguing question is:Can the quantum nature(quantumness)of sensors and targets be exploited to enable schemes that are not possible for classical probes or classical targets?Here we show that measurement of the quantum correlations of a quantum target indeed allows for sensing schemes that have no classical *** a concrete example,in the case that the second-order classical correlation of a quantum target could be totally concealed by non-stationary classical noise,the higher-order quantum correlations can single out a quantum target from the classical noise background,regardless of the spectrum,statistics,or intensity of the *** a classical-noise-free sensing scheme is *** finding suggests that the quantumness of sensors and targets is still to be explored to realize the full potential of quantum *** opportunities include sensitivity beyond classical approaches,non-classical correlations as a new approach to quantum many-body physics,loophole-free tests of the quantum foundation,et cetera.

This research examined nitrogen mineralization in the top 10 cm of soils along a vegetation gradient in Hong Kong at sites where fire has been absent for 0, 1, 3, 6 and 17 years (at the time of the study), and the relationships between N mineralization and successional development of vegetation in the absence of fire. The sites including a newly burnt area (S1), short grassland (S2), tall grassland (S3), mixed tall grassland and shrubland (S4), and woodland (S5) were selected,and the in situ core incubation method was used to estimate nitrogen mineralization. Throughout the 60-day incubation in four periods, more nitrogen was mineralized at the S3 and S4 sites, the predominantly grassland sites, which contained the highest levels of soil organic matter (SOM) and total Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN), than the S1 site, while immobilization occurred at the S2 and S5 sites. Leaching loss decreased with successional development of the vegetation, in the order of S1 ＞ S2 ＞ S3 ＞ S4 ＞ S5. The pattern of nitrogen uptake with ecological succession was less conspicuous, being complicated by the immediate effect of fire and possibly the ability of the woodland species to extract nitrogen from the deeper *** the absence of fire for 3 to 6 years, the build-up of SOM and TKN was accompanied by active mineralization, thus paving the way for the invasion of shrub and tree species. A close relationship existed between nitrogen mineralization and ecological succession with this vegetation gradient. Inherent mechanisms to preserve nitrogen in a fire-prone environment including immobilization and uptake and the practical relevance of nitrogen mineralization to reforestation are discussed.
