BACKGROUND Atypical optic neuritis,consisting of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders(NMOSD)or myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody disease(MOGAD),has a very similar presentation but different prognostic implications and longterm management *** and metabolic factors are being thought to play a role in such autoimmune neuro-inflammatory disorders,apart from the obvious immune mediated *** the advent of optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA),it is easy to pick up on these subclinical macular microvascular and structural *** To study the macular microvascular and structural changes on OCTA in atypical optic *** This observational cross-sectional study involved 8 NMOSD and 17 MOGAD patients,diagnosed serologically,as well as 10 healthy *** vascular density(MVD)and ganglion cell+inner plexiform layer thickness(GCIPL)were studied using *** There was a significant reduction in MVD in NMOSD and MOGAD affected as well as unaffected eyes when compared with healthy *** and MOGAD affected eyes had significant GCIPL thinning compared with healthy *** unaffected eyes did not show significant GCIPL thinning compared to healthy controls in contrast to MOGAD unaffected *** comparing NMOSD with MOGAD,there was no significant difference in terms of MVD or GCIPL in the affected or unaffected *** Although significant microvascular and structural changes are present on OCTA between atypical optic neuritis and normal patients,they could not help in differentiating between NMOSD and MOGAD cases.

AIM:To study whether patients with progressive nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy(NAION)present earlier than patients with stable NAION and to describe their clinical characteristics and visual ***:This was a retrospective chart *** patients with NAION seen during the acute stage from January 2012 to December 2018 were *** were included if they had documented disc edema and follow up of at least 3 *** with progressive NAION were identified if they worsened in 2 out of 3 parameters:visual acuity≥3 Snellen lines;Color vision≥4 Ishihara plates;the visual field defect involved a new *** clinical characteristics,time from symptom onset to presentation,systemic risk factors and visual outcome were compared to patients with stable ***:Totally 122 NAION cases met the inclusion *** age was 58.1 y(range 22-74),70%were *** cases(16.4%)had progressive *** with progressive NAION did not differ from stable NAION in their demographics,systemic risk factors or in their initial visual *** last follow up,median visual acuity was 1.0 log MAR(IQR 0.64-1.55)in patients with progressive NAION,vs 0.18(IQR 0.1-0.63)in stable NAION(P<0.001).Median color vision testing was 0 plates correct(IQR 0-2.5%)vs 92%plates correct(IQR 50%-100%)in the stable NAION group(P<0.001).Patients with progressive NAION differed in the time from symptom onset to presentation(median 2 d vs 5 d,P=0.011).CONCLUSION:We find no identifiable risk factors associated with progressive *** arrive earlier for ophthalmological evaluation.

Background:Aim of the study is to provide an operational definition of“visual dyslexia”referred to a particular subgroup of dyslexics characterized by x,y anisotropic perception of the visual space,or unstable ocular dominance,or abnormal binocular interaction,and who benefit from increased interletter *** working hypothesis of this investigation is that in dyslexic children who show the abovementioned alterations the correlation between reading rate and interletter spacing is a marker of visual involvement,and supports a causal role of these visual-perceptive alterations in their reading ***:Based on the results obtained by three psychophysical tests devised on purpose,a group of 193 school-age disabled readers with normal visual acuity and no significant co-morbidities has been classified into four different classes:non-visual-perceptive sample,anisotropic sample(AS),abnormal binocular interaction sample and unstable dominance sample(UDS).To test for the working hypothesis,the absence of the visual marker has been verified in the non-visual-perceptive sample,and its presence has then been investigated in the remaining ***:The non-visual-perceptive class was negative to the visual *** the other classes the average reading rate of words and non-words improved as a function of the distance between characters(AS:R2:0.51 and 0.43,P=0.01 and 0.02 respectively;abnormal binocular interaction sample:R2:0.47 and R2:0.57,P=0.02 and 0.007 respectively;unstable dominance:R2:0.43,P=0.02 at non-words).Yet,individual analysis revealed that the marker was present in no more than 23%of subjects with increased anisotropy,in 50%of unstable dominants,and in only 12%of patients with abnormal interocular ***:Even if on a population scale this line of investigation seems able to provide an operational definition of“visual dyslexia”,the individual detection of the“visual dyslexics”requires methodological improvement.

Dear Editor,We are Dr. Zhi-Qing Li and Dr. Jin Yang, from the neuro-ophthalmology and Medical Retinal Department of Tianjin Medical University Eye Hospital, Tianjin, China. We here present two cases of X-linked inheritable retinal diseases with genetic confirmation of the multimodal imaging findings of the patients, especially the female carriers. This study was approved by the institutional review board of Tianjin Medical University Eye Hospital, and the protocols adhered to the tenets of the Declaration of Helsinki. This letter mainly describes a novel imaging modality, multispectral imaging （MSI）, which appeared to be sensitive in detecting the pattern of chorioretinal degeneration and the tapetal-like reflex.

AIM: To investigate the characteristics of postoperative central visual field defect(cVFD) in patients with macular hole(MH).METHODS: Eighteen eyes from 18 MH patients were involved in this retrospective study which reviewed square root of loss variance(sLV) and mean defect(MD) of the visual field test in all subjects. The relationship between cVFD and MH stage, as well as the postoperative ellipsoid zone disruption were evaluated using Spearman's correlation test. RESULTS: Our analysis determined Spearman coefficient is 0.705 for the correlation between sLV and MH stage(P<0.01), 0.877 for the correlation between sLV and postoperative ellipsoid zone disruption(P<0.01) and 0.721 for the correlation between MD and postoperative ellipsoid zone disruption(P<0.01). A significant relationship was also detected between postoperative ellipsoid zone disruption and MH stage(r=0.470, P<0.05). Univariate regression analysis indicated that sLV and MD were associated with postoperative ellipsoid zone disruption(P<0.01, P<0.01, respectively). CONCLUSION: Postoperative cVFD is highly correlated with MH stage and postoperative ellipsoid zone disruption in patients with MH.

Background: The sella tumors were found in 15% of intracranial tumors. The sella turcica region locates in the base of skull, so the carcinoma patients in early stage often showed no intracranial hypertension and other positive signs of neural system. However, the patients presented visual field defect and hypopsia, and often went to see the doctor of ophthalmology, which resulted from that the tumor often compressed optic nerve and chiasm. We analysed the symptomatic changes of the visual organs in order to provide a diagnositic basis for sellar tumor in oph-thalmological *** materials: Of the 407 cases of sellar tumors, 296 were pituitary adenoma, 52 were craniopharyngioma, 43 were meningioma, and the rest 16 were other kinds of sellar tumors. We analysed their ocular changes of the sellar tumors and the characteristics of the ***: The sellar tumor in its early stage is mainly symptomized as visual field changes. AIM:To elucidate the changes of different ganglion cell layer(GCL)thinning patterns between the optic neuritis(ON)and non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy(NAION).METHODS:A prospective,observational study was conducted to evaluate the timing of GCL changes between acute ON and NAION using optical coherence ***:Thinning on optical coherence tomography in the NAION group occurs as early as 11 d after symptomatic onset of vision loss and follows an altitudinal *** mean superior-inferior GCL thickness difference in the NAION cohort was clinically significant at 5.7μm in the NAION cohort compared to controls of 0.8μm(P=0.032),but not significant in the ON group compared to controls with both groups measuring 1.1μ*** thinning was significant for the ON group compared to controls at 7.2μm(P=0.011)but not the NAION group compared to controls at 1.35μ***:These findings suggest that future treatments for NAION should be given early,and possibly before 11 d in order to prevent GCL and irreversible vision loss.
