Comparative Study on Effect of Chrysophyllum albidum and Irvingia gabonensis Leaves Extracts on High-Fat Diet-Induced Obesity in Wistar Rats

Leaves of Chrysophyllum albidum and Irvingia gabonensis have been reported to possess saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids and tannins which have several health benefits. This study investigated the anti-obesity effect of methanol extract of leaves of Chrysophyllum albidum and Irvingia gabonensis in high fat diet (HFD) fed rats. Male Wistar rats were fed with HFD for eight weeks to induce obesity. Rats in different groups were thereafter treated with extracts of Chrysophyllum albidum (250 and 500 mg/kg;p.o), Irvingia gabonensis (250 and 500 mg/kg;p.o) or the reference anti-obesity drug (orlistat®20 mg/kg, p.o) for four weeks. Body weight, body mass index (BMI) and Lee’s index were recorded. Following sacrifice of the rats, weight of adipose tissues (retroperitoneal and epididymal fat), serum lipid profile, kidney function markers, liver and cardiac function enzymes were measured. Histopathological examination of the liver and kidney tissues were carried out. Obese rats treated with Chrysophyllum albidum, Irvingia gabonensis or orlistat showed normal body weights. Weights of adipose tissues, BMI and Lee’s index were comparable with those of normal control [normal fat diet (NFD) fed rats]. Also, serum analysis showed that orlistat and extracts treated rats had restored lipid profile, liver, kidney and cardiac function parameters in contrast with the untreated HFD fed obese group. Furthermore, liver and kidney of orlistat and extracts treated groups showed normal architecture while those of the untreated HFD group showed inflammation and hepatic steatosis. Findings from the study suggest that methanol extracts of Chrysophyllum albidum and Irvingia gabonensis leaves have anti-obesity and anti-hyperlipidaemic properties. Comparatively, extract of Irvingia gabonensis appeared to be a better suppressor of adiposity than extract of Chrysophyllum albidum.

STUDY ON PROLIFERATIVE ACTIVITY OF ENDOCRINE CELLS IN GASTRIC CARCINOMA

Endocrine cell(EC) in 11 cases picked up from 56 cases of gastric carcinoma were observed by double immunohistochemical method using chromogramnin A(CgA) and proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA).The endocrine cells were recognized by a antibody to CgA and the proliferative activity by a monoclonal antibody to PCNA.11 cases CgA positive GC cells with PCNA incorporation was in 51/4069(0-3%) with an average 1.25%.By contrast PCNA reaction was positive in 31.9±14.7% of CgA negative GC *** suggests that there were a few cell in S and G1 phase and most of them in G0 phase.

Periodic Error Compensation for Quartz MEMS Gyroscope Drift of INS

In order to improve the navigation accuracy of an inertial navigation system （INS）, composed of quartz gyroscopes, the existing real-time compensation methods for periodic errors in quartz gyroscope drift and the periodic error term relationship between sampled original data and smoothed data are reviewed. On the base of the results, a new compensation method called using former period characteristics to compensate latter smoothness data （UFCL for short） method is proposed considering the INS working characteristics. This new method uses the original data without smoothing to work out an error conversion formula at the INS initial alignment time and then compensate the smoothed data errors by way of the formula at the navigation time. Both theoretical analysis and experimental results demonstrate that this method is able to cut down on computational time and raise the accuracy which makes it a better real-time compensation approach for periodic error terms of quartz micro electronic mechanical system （MEMS） gyroscope＇s zero drift.

Energy-Theft Detection Issues for Advanced Metering Infrastructure in Smart Grid

With the proliferation of smart grid research, the Advanced Metering Infrastructure （AMI） has become the first ubiquitous and fixed computing platform. However, due to the unique characteristics of AMI, such as complex network structure, resource-constrained smart meter, and privacy-sensitive data, it is an especially challenging issue to make AMI secure. Energy theft is one of the most important concerns related to the smart grid implementation. It is estimated that utility companies lose more than S25 billion every year due to energy theft around the world. To address this challenge, in this paper, we discuss the background of AMI and identify major security requirements that AMI should meet. Specifically, an attack tree based threat model is first presented to illustrate the energy-theft behaviors in AMI. Then, we summarize the current AMI energy-theft detection schemes into three categories, i.e., classification-based, state estimation-based, and game theory-based ones, and make extensive comparisons and discussions on them. In order to provide a deep understanding of security vulnerabilities and solutions in AMI and shed light on future research directions, we also explore some open challenges and potential solutions for energy-theft detection.

Mosquitocidal Activity of Extracts from Ammi visnaga (Apiaceae) Seeds

Aedes aegypti mosquitoes are responsible for transmission of many viral diseases, such as Zika fever, dengue fever, yellow fever, and chikungunya. Emergence of resistance to currently used pesticides among mosquitoes has increased the importance for the search for novel mosquito control agents. Natural products, particularly plant and microbe derived secondary metabolites, are good sources in the search for such compounds. Ammi visnaga (Lam.) Lamarck is a plant in the Apiaceae family native to North Africa, Europe, and Asia. In the search for environmentally benign and effective insecticides as part of an ongoing joint effort between the USDA (US Department of Agriculture) and the DWFP (Deployed War Fighter Protection) program sponsored by the Department of Defense, we have investigated ethyl acetate extract of A. visnaga seeds. Two furanochromones, khellin and visnagin that exhibited larvicide activity against Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of the seeds by bioassay-guided fractionation. This is the first report of mosquito larvicidal activity of khellin and visnagin.

Dynamic analysis of a guided projectile during engraving process

The reliability of the electronic components inside a guided projectile is highly affected by the launch dynamics of guided *** engraving process plays a crucial role on determining the ballistic performance and projectile *** paper analyzes the dynamic response of a guided projectile during the engraving *** considering the projectile center of gravity moving during the engraving process,a dynamics model is established with the coupling of interior ballistic *** results detail the stress situation of a guided projectile band during its engraving ***,the axial dynamic response of projectile in the several milliseconds following the engraving process is also *** further explore how the different performance of the engraving band can affect the dynamics of guided projectile,this paper focuses on these two aspects:(a) the effects caused by the different band geometry;and(b) the effects caused by different band *** time domain and frequency domain responses show that the dynamics of the projectile are quite sensitive to the engraving band width.A material with a small modulus of elasticity is more stable than one with a high modulus of elasticity.

Effect of Air Velocity on Thermal Comfort under Thermal Environment Ramp Changing

Set points of the indoor air temperature and relative humidity in short-term staying location were studied. In this condition, the thermal reaction of human body varied with the ramp changes of the environmental thermal *** change rules of about 60 subjects′ thermal reaction to the ramp change of environment were surveyed, and the effect of air movement on the thermal reaction during transient condition was considered by using a questionnaire. With the experimental results and research findings under stable condition, a way to set environmental parameters of short-time staying location was recommended.

The argyrophil method for nucleolar organizer regions (AgNOR) known as the AgNor technique and mucin histochemical stain were applied to Investigate the dysplasia and cancaration in ulcerative colitis Including 58 cases of biopsy specimens and three cases operative specimens. The numbers of AgNOR have been gradully increased with the grades of dasplasls. Similarly the percentage of sialomucin having vicinal diols on side chain of sialic acid also gradully Increased with the grades of dysplasia. The AgNOR reflects rDNA transcriptional activity responsible for degrees of differentiation of cell. Epithelial cells secreting a heterogeneous mucin, could be taken as a signal of abnormal cellular differentiation. AgNOR and mucln chages might be assumed as a criteria In representing malignant transformation.

STATISTICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF SEA-LAND BREEZES IN HAINAN ISLAND

The sea-land breeze circulation(SLBC) occurs regularly at coastal locations and influences the local weather and climate significantly. In this study, based on the observed surface wind in 9 conventional meteorological stations of Hainan Island, the frequency of sea-land breeze(SLB) is studied to depict the diurnal and seasonal variations. The statistics indicated that there is a monthly average of 12.2 SLB days and an occurrence frequency of about 40%, with the maximum frequency(49%) in summer and the minimum frequency(29%) in autumn. SLB frequencies(41%) are comparable in winter and spring. A higher frequency of SLB is present in the southern and central mountains due to the enhancement effect of the mountain-valley breeze. Due to the synoptic wind the number of SLB days in the northern hilly area is less than in other areas. Moreover, the WRF model, adopted to simulate the SLBC over the island for all seasons, performs reasonably well reproducing the phenomenon, evolution and mechanism of SLBC. Chiefly affected by the difference of temperature between sea and land, the SLBC varies in coverage and intensity with the seasons and reaches the greatest intensity in summer. The typical depth is about 2.5 km for sea breeze circulation and about 1.5 km for land breeze circulation. A strong convergence zone with severe ascending motion appears on the line parallel to the major axis of the island, penetrating 60 to 100 km inland. This type of weak sea breeze convergence zone in winter is north-south oriented. The features of SLBC in spring are similar both to that in summer with southerly wind and to that in winter with easterly wind. The coverage and intensity of SLBC in autumn is the weakest and confined to the southwest edge of the central mountainous area. The land breeze is inherently very weak and easily affected by the topography and weather. PROLIFERATION RATE OF COLONIC NEOPLASMS AND MUCOSA ADJACENT TO NEOPLASMS: IMMUNOHISTOCHEMICAL STUDY

Biopsy specimens of normal mucosa (n=5). adenomas (n -13), adenocarcinomas (n = 8). mucosa adjacent to adenoma (n=10) mucosa adjacent to adenocarcinoma (n = 7 ) at the large bowel were investigated by an iminunohistochemical method using 5- bromodeoxynldine (BrdUrd) . The labeling index (LI) was significantly lower in normal nucosa than mucosa adjacent to neoplasms and adenomas and adenocarcinomas. The proliferative zone was confined to the lower two- third at the crypt in normal mucosa and in mucosa adjacent to neoplasms. The labeled cells were either present in the upper third or scattered along the crust and in surface epithelium. The results support the adenmo-carcinoma sequence.
