Root cause of corrosion failure of tin coating on wire clamp in marine atmosphere

The failure cause of a tinned copper wire clamp in marine atmosphere was studied systematically by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy and electrochemical *** main components of the green rust on the surface of the damaged wire clamp are SnO_(2),CuO,Cu_(2)Cl(OH)_(3) and CuCO(OH)_(2).Much of green rust distributes at the platform edge along the axial direction on the crimp connection,and severe corrosion and corrosion pits occur at the platform edge zone along the axial *** enriching Cl-at the marine atmosphere and the existing O_(2) in air collectively enhance the corrosion process of the tin coating and the copper *** element model results show that the residual stress and strain of the tin coating are the largest at the platform edge along the axial direction on the crimp connection,and the corresponding electrode potential of the tin coating at this zone drops *** above results indicate that the residual strain increases the driving force of the corrosion electrochemical reactions and accelerates the corrosion rate and the pit corrosion of the tin coating at this zone.

Numerical Study on the Effect of Gap Diffraction on the Hydrodynamic Performance of A Floating Breakwater

An investigation on HOBEM in evaluating ship wave of high speed displacement ship

A practical numerical tool is developed to evaluate ship waves of high speed displacement ships on the basis of potential flow theory, in which high order boundary element method (HOBEM) based on biquadratic shape functions is applied to solve the boundary value problem. Since the sinkage and trim of ship at high speeds are notable, influences of ship attitude on wave drag are investigated and three kinds of models are used to evaluate them. To make the numerical approach highly efficient, an incomplete lU factorization preconditioner is adopted and incorporated with the restarted generalized minimal residual method GMRES (m) to solve the boundary integral equation. A corresponding Fortran code is developed and applied to evaluate ship waves of the Wigley hull and 4a model, a transom stem ship. Computations are performed for both monohulls and catamarans over a wide range of Froude numbers (Fr= 0.10-l.00). Numerical issues including mesh convergence and computational efficiency are investigated at first. Computed results of the wave drag, sinkage and trim show generally good agreement with experimental data. Reasonable wave patterns are obtained and physical phenomena that wake angle max, where the largest waves occur, would become narrow at high speeds is also captured by the present computations. Numerical results indicate the proposed method would be accurate and efficient to evaluate resistance for hull design of high speed displacement ship.

Quantitative Analysis of Non-Crystalline and Crystalline Solids in Blast Furnace Slag

The granulation of blast furnace slag （BFS） with water quenching treatment has some disadvantages, such as high water consumption and difficulty for recovery heat. So developing a new dry granulation technique to treat BFS is very important. The applicability of BFS directly depends on the content of non-crystalline solids in the slag after treatment. So it is of theoretical and practical significance to analyze the content of non-crystalline solids in the slag quantitatively and simply. Metallographical test is mainly adopted to quantify the non-crystalline in BFS so far with the shortages such as complex sample, difficult determination, ect. The diffraction intensity of non-crystalline is proportionate to the content of non-crystalline in BFS, ~ray diffraction method was adopted to quantify the noncrystalline and the crystalline solids in BFS. The quantitative coefficient between the crystalline and the non-crystalline solids of BFS is 0.70 of BFS whose main composition （mass percent, %） is： CaO 38.2, SiO2 35.7, Al2Oa 16.3, and MgO 8.3. The relative error of X-ray diffractometer for quantitatively analyzing non-crystalline content of BFS is less than 1%.

Survived Seamount Reveals an in situ Origin for the Central Qiangtang Metamorphic Belt in the Tibetan Plateau

The origin of the central Qiangtang metamorphic belt(CQMB)has long been in debate,which is not clear whether this belt is the exhumed Jinsha oceanic plate that had been subducted and underthrusted beneath the Qiangtang Block,or the in situ longmu Co-Shuanghu suture that separated the south and north Qiangtang *** we report field observations,zircon U-Pb ages and lu-Hf isotopes,as well as whole rock geochemistry and Sr-Nd isotopes of the late Triassic volcanic rocks near the Chabo Co within the southern margin of the *** ca.229 Ma Chabo Co volcanic rocks and limestones possess characteristic lithologies of a *** geochemical and isotopic compositions are similar to OIB-type *** other metabasalts(eclogites and blueschists)in the CQMB,the Chabo Co volcanic rocks are OIB-type lavas that did not experience high-grade metamorphism;this is likely because that the Chabo Co seamount was detached from the subducting longmu Co-Shuanghu oceanic *** work provides new solid evidences for an in situ origin of the CQMB.

A new coordination compound of Zn(NH3)3(AFT)2(1,ZnC6H13N17O2,AFT =4-amino-3-(5-tetrazolate)-furazan)was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and FT-IR *** crystal structure was determined by X-ray single-crystal *** crystal belongs to the orthorhombic system,space group Pnma with a = 18.680(3),b = 6.9438(11),c =12.268(2)A,μ= 1.592 mm-1,V= 1591.3(4)A3,M,= 420.72,Dc=1.756 g·cm^-3,Z= 4,F(000)= 860,the final R = 0.0480 and wR = 0.1262 for the observed reflections with I>2σ(Ⅰ).The zinc(Ⅱ)ion is five-coordinated by N atoms from two AFT"ligands and three NH3 *** thermal decomposition mechanism of compound 1 was tested by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC)and thermogravimetry-derivative thermogravimetry(TG-DTG)*** DSC curve exhibits two endothermic and one exothermic *** addition,the non-isothermal kinetics parameters were calculated by using the Kissinger s method and Ozawa-Doyle's ***,the entropy of activation(ΔS≠),enthalpy of activation(ΔH≠),free energy of activation(ΔG≠)and impact sensitivity(IS)was also obtained.

A graph-based approach for the structural analysis of road and building layouts

A better understanding of the relationship between the structure and functions of urban and suburban spaces is one of the avenues of research still open for geographical information *** research presented in this paper develops several graph-based metrics whose objective is to characterize some local and global structural properties that reflect the way the overall building layout can be cross-related to the one of the road *** structural properties are modeled as an aggregation of parcels,buildings,and road *** introduce several computational measures(Ratio Minimum Distance,Minimum Ratio Minimum Distance,and Metric Compactness)that respectively evaluate the capability for a given road to be connected with the whole road *** measures reveal emerging sub-network structures and point out differences between less-connective and moreconnective parts of the *** on these local and global properties derived from the topological and graph-based representation,and on building density metrics,this paper proposes an analysis of road and building layouts at different levels of *** metrics developed are applied to a case study in which the derived properties reveal coherent as well as incoherent neighborhoods that illustrate the potential of the approach and the way buildings and roads can be relatively connected in a given urban ***,and by integrating the parcels and buildings layouts,this approach complements other previous and related works that mainly retain the configurational structure of the urban network as well as morphological studies whose focus is generally limited to the analysis of the building layout.

Surface Water and Groundwater Interactions in Wetlands

Wetland ecosystems are critical habitats for various types of wild lives and are important components of global ecosystem. However, with climate change and human activities, wetlands are facing with degradation. Surface water and groundwater(SW-GW) interactions play an essential role in matter and energy cycling in wetlands, and therefore affect the evolution and health of wetlands. But the role of groundwater in wetland ecosystems has been neglected or simplified. In this paper, we reviewed how surface water interacts with groundwater, and made a systematic summarization of the role of SW-GW interactions(such as maintaining water balance and biological diversity and removing pollution) in wetland ecological functions. We also reviewed the methods to investigate, simulate and quantify SW-GW interactions and related reactions. Finally, we illustrated how climate change and human activities affect SW-GW interactions and therefore affect wetland functions. We highlight the importance of groundwater in wetlands and the urgency to intensify the research in integrated multidisciplinary monitoring and simulation methods, dominant variables and thresholds and integrated water resources management of SW-GW interactions, and further aim to stimulate better protection and restoration of wetlands all over the world.

Centrifuge experiment and numerical analysis of an air-backed plate subjected to underwater shock loading

In this study,systematic centrifuge experiments and numerical studies are conducted to investigate the effect of shock loads due to an underwater explosion on the dynamic responses of an air-backed steel *** simulations with three different models of pressure time history generated by underwater explosion were carried *** first model of pressure time history was measured in *** second model to predict the time history of shock wave pressure from an underwater explosion was created by Cole in *** of Cole's formulas are determined *** third model was developed by Zamyshlyaev and Yakovlev in *** of them are implemented into the numerical model to calculate the shock responses of the *** peak strains obtained from the three models are compared with the experimental results,yielding average relative differences of 21.39%,45.73%,and 13.92%,*** Russell error technique is used to quantitatively analyze the correlation between the numerical and experimental *** analysis shows that the simulated strains for most measurement points on the steel plate are *** changing the scaled distances,different shock impulses were obtained and exerted on the steel *** numerical studies are performed to investigate the effect of the accumulated shock impulse on the peak *** numerical and experimental results suggest that the peak strains are strongly dependent on the accumulated shock impulse.
