The mass entransy describes the mass-diffusion ability of the solution system, and the mass-diffusion process with the finite concentration difference always leads to the mass-entransy dissipation. This paper studies the equimolar reverse constant-temperature mass-diffusion process with Fick's law( g∝Δ(c)). The optimal concentration paths for the med(Minimum Entransy Dissipation) are derived and compared with those for the MEG(Minimum Entropy Generation) and CCR(Constant Concentration Ratio) operations. It is indicated that the strategy of the med is equivalent to that of the CCD(Constant Concentration Difference) of the same component; whether the med or the MEG is selected as the optimization objective, the strategy of the CCD is much better than that of the CCR.

Background Hyperbaric oxygen preconditioning （HBO） is a new method of ischemia preconditioning. In this study, we examined its effects on skin flap survival and the mechanisms involved. Methods Thirty-six rats were divided into three groups： HBO preconditioning, control, and sham groups. An extended epigastric adipocutaneous flap based on the right superficial epigastric artery and vein was raised. A 3-hour period of flap ischemia was induced by clamping the pedicle vessels with a microvascular clamp. At the end of ischemia induction, the clamp was removed and the flap was resutured. Rats in the HBO preconditioning group were treated with HBO four times before surgery. Microcirculation in the skin flap was measured on postoperative days 1, 3 and 5. The size of the flap was measured on postoperative day 5, before the animals were sacrificed. Samples of the skin flap were prepared and stained with hematoxylin and eosin. The levels of tumor necrosis factor （TNF）-α, interleukin （IL）-1β, and IL-6 in the flap samples were measured.

This paper investigates the med(Minimum Entransy Dissipation) optimization of heat transfer processes with the generalized heat transfer law q ∝(△(T^n))~m T. For the fixed amount of heat transfer, the optimal temperature paths for the med are obtained. The results show that the strategy of the med with generalized convective law q ∝(△T)~m T is that the temperature difference keeps constant, which is in accordance with the famous temperature-difference-field uniformity principle, while the strategy of the med with linear phenomenological law q ∝△(T^(-1)) is that the temperature ratio keeps constant. For special cases with Dulong-Petit law q ∝(△T)^(1.25) and an imaginary complex law q ∝(△(T^4))^(1.25), numerical examples are provided and further compared with the strategies of the MEG(Minimum Entropy Generation), CHF(Constant Heat Flux) and CRT(Constant Reservoir Temperature) operations. Besides, influences of the change of the heat transfer amount on the optimization results with various heat resistance models are discussed in detail.

A qualification test for the reliability of a newly-developed Diver Gas Recovery System (DGRS) was carried out in the naval medical Research Institute of the People's Liberation Army, China from March 29 to April 2, 1995. A sequential test plan of high discrimination ratio for the mean time between failures (MTBF) was adopted. The test procedures simulated those of a 300 msw dive. A hyperbaric breathing machine was used for the simulation of diver's respiratory functions. Parameters, such as diving depth, respiratory minute volume (RMV), CO2 production, gas flow rate, partial pressure of carbon dioxide, and ambient temperature and himidity were all displayed and recorded with a microcomputer system. The results indicated that no failure occurred during the 91.5 h operation. According to the acceptance and rejection criteria specified in the statistical test plan, a no-failure score in the 88 h operation is acceptable. Therefore, the DGRS has been demonstrated to meet the requirements of MTBF specified in the contract.
