Quantitative simulation and verification of upgrade law of sustainable development in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration

Effects of flooding stress on the photosynthetic apparatus of leaves of two Physocarpus cultivars

We applied under pot-culture conditions and the double-casing pot method to study the characteristics of photosynthetic gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence in the leaves of Physocarpus amurensis Maxim （PA） and Physocarpus opulifolius under flooding stress. Our results indicate a significantly higher flooding tolerance of P. opulifolius compared to P. amurensis. Especially in P. amurensis, the limitation of non-stomatal factors played a major role in the advanced stages of flooding stress, observed as a rapid increase of the intercellular C02 con- centration （Ci） and a decrease of the stomatal limitation value （Ls）. The maximal PSII photochemical efficiencies （Fv/Fm） and actual photochemical efficiency （60PSU） in the leaves of P. opulifolius were extent of decrease during the than in P. amurensis. In significantly higher, and the flooding process was smaller addition, the non-chemical quenching （NPQ） in the leaves of P. opulifolius significandy increased from the 10th day under flooding stress, while the variation of NPQ in the leaves of P. amurensis was much smaller. This indicates that the leaves of P. opulifolius had not only higher PSII photochemical activity, but also improved tolerance to flooding stress, which may be caused by its ability to dissipate excess excitation energy by starting NPQ. At the 16th day under flooding stress, the PLABS significantly decreased with greater extent of decrease than Fv/Fm in the leaves of both Physocarpus, but the decreasing extent of PIABS in P. opulifolius was significantly smaller than in P. amurensis. In the 16th day under flooding stress, the fluorescence at J and I point （VJ and V1） in P. amurensis were significantly higher, and the extent of increase in VJ was greater than V1. However, the variations of VJ and V1 in the leaves of P. opulifolius were smaller, suggesting that the damage sites of flooding stress to PSII in the leaves of P. amurensis were mainly located in the electron transport process from QA at th

Mixed-effects modeling for tree height prediction models of Oriental beech in the Hyrcanian forests

Challenge of biodiesel production from sewage sludge catalyzed by KOH, KOH/activated carbon, and KOH/CaO

The considerable compounds content, abundance, and low costs involved has led to the proposal to use sewage sludge as raw material for biodiesel production. The transesterification reaction is catalyzed using an acid catalyst instead of base catalysts because of the high free fatty acid concentration. However, the use of a base catalyst, particularly a solid base catalyst, has certain advantages, including faster reaction speed and easier separation. In this study, we utilize in situ transesterification by base catalyst （KOH, KOH/activated carbon （AC） and KOH/CaO） with sewage sludge as raw material. Many conditions have been tested to increase biodiesel yield through single-factor tests, including mass fraction and catalyst dosage. Preliminary experiments have optimized reaction time and temperature. However, the three catalysts did not work better than H2SO4, which had a maximum yield of 4.6% （dry sewage sludge base） considering the purity by KOH, KOH/CaO, and KOH/AC. The features of the catalyst were analyzed using XRD, BET and SEM. As to BET of KOH/AC and the good spiculate formation of KOH crystal appears to be essential to its function. As for KOH/CaO, the formation of K20 and absorption points is likely essential.

Carbon and nitrogen allocations in corn grown in Central and Northeast China: different responses to fertilization treatments

In order to reveal the impact of various fertilization strategies on carbon（C） and nitrogen（N） accumulation and allocation in corn（Zea mays L.）, corn was grown in the fields where continuous fertilization management had been lasted about 18 years at two sites located in Central and Northeast China（Zhengzhou and Gongzhuling）, and biomass C and N contents in different organs of corn at harvest were analyzed. The fertilization treatments included non-fertilizer（control）, chemical fertilizers of either nitrogen（N）, or nitrogen and phosphorus（NP）, or phosphorus and potassium（PK）, or nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium（NPK）, NPK plus manure（NPKM）, 150% of the NPKM（1.5NPKM）, and NPK plus straw（NPKS）. The results showed that accumulated C in aboveground ranged from 2 550–5 630 kg ha^–1 in the control treatment to 9 300–9 610 kg ha^–1 in the NPKM treatment, of which 57–67% and 43–50% were allocated in the non-grain organs, respectively. Accumulated N in aboveground ranged from 44.8–55.2 kg ha^-1 in the control treatment to 211–222 kg ha^–1 in the NPKM treatment, of which 35–48% and 33–44% were allocated in the non-grain parts, respectively. C allocated to stem and leaf for the PK treatment was 65 and 49% higher than that for the NPKM treatment at the both sites, respectively, while N allocated to the organs for the PK treatment was 18 and 6% higher than that for the NPKM treatment, respectively. This study demonstrated that responses of C and N allocation in corn to fertilization strategies were different, and C allocation was more sensitive to fertilization treatments than N allocation in the area.
