The sugar beet cyst nematode,Heterodera schachtii,is a major parasite of sugar beet which has been recognized and listed as a quarantine nematode in China and more than 20 countries and regions worldwide.A survey for important nematodes was undertaken in the sugar beet planting area of China during 2015-2018,and numerous cysts were collected from sugar beet fields in Xinyuan County,Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of *** observations of morphological and morphometric characteristics revealed that cysts,vulval cones and second-stage juveniles of the Xinjiang population were in the same range of each other and within those of other reported *** *** analysis of rDNA-ITS,28S-D2/D3 and mtDNA cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1(COI)gene sequences suggested that the Xinjiang population clustered in a branch with those foreign populations,and the sequence similarity was as high as 99.81-100%.Moreover,this result was confirmed by PCR assay with species-specific primer SHF6 and rDNA2 of ***,and the pathogenicity test confirmed successful Xinjiang population reproduction in both plant *** conclusion,based on morphological and molecular characterization,this study confirmed that the cyst nematode population collected from sugar beet fields in Xinjiang is *** far as we know,this is the first report of *** on sugar beets in Xinjiang,China.

Feeding Calcium Salts of Linseed Oil on Metabolic Status and Reproductive Traits in Grazing Dairy Cows

This experiment aimed to evaluate the effect of calcium salts of linseed oil (rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA, C18:3n-3) on metabolic and reproductive traits in high-producing dairy cows under grazing. Thirty-six Holstein dairy cows were randomly assigned, in a complete block design, to receive ALA supplementation (0.85 kg∙day−1 of calcium salts of linseed oil) or to remain as untreated control (CON). The concentrate was formulated to offer the same amount of energy across treatments (CON cows received an extra kg of corn to compensate for the higher energy density of ALA treatment). A PMR + Alfalfa pasture was offered to all cows at the same time. A fixed time artiﬁcial insemination (FTAI) at 80 DIM, preceded by a Presynch plus Ovsynch protocol was implemented for the first service and later, on return to estrus, heat detection and artiﬁcial insemination (AI) were performed. Pregnancy diagnosis was checked at 30, 42, 60, and 90 d after AI. Blood and milk samples were taken biweekly. Treatment affected plasma cholesterol concentration (160.36 vs. 186.70 mg∙dl−1, p = 0.03, for ALA and CON, respectively) and on size of corpus luteum (CL, 17.6 vs. 13.7 mm, p = 0.02, for ALA and CON, respectively). Supplementation tended (p = 0.136) to increase conception rate by 200 DIM (81.69% vs. 55.43% in ALA and CON cows, respectively). However, treatment had no effect (p > 0.05) on body weight (BW), body condition score (BCS), and circulating levels of beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHBA), glucose, insulin, growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor (IGF-I). Our results suggest that supplementation with calcium salts of linseed oil could enhance ovarian function without affecting energy metabolism in early lactation dairy cows.

Yimu San improves obstetric ability of pregnant mice by increasing serum oxytocin levels and connexin 43 expression in uterine smooth muscle

Prolonged farrowing remains one of the critical challenges in intensive pig farming. This study aims to explore the effects and mechanism of Yimu San （YMS）, a Chinese veterinary medicine micro mist, on delivery ability with mouse models. Thirty-two pregnant mice were randomly divided into a control group and Iow-YMS, med-YMS, and high-YMS groups. The labor process time and stillbirth rate were recorded, the levels of serum oxytocin and prostaglandin E2 （PGE2） were measured with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay （ELISA）. Contractility measure- ments of the isolated uterus and the expression of connexin 43 （Cx43） in uterine smooth muscle were evaluated. The results showed that compared with the control group, the birth process time and stillbirth rate in the med-YMS and high-YMS groups were remarkably lower. The in vitro uterine contractions, levels of oxytocin, PGE2, and Cx43 in the med-YMS and high-YMS groups were significantly higher than those in the control group. The differences of the above measurements between the Iow-YMS group and the control group were not obvious. It can be speculated that YMS could significantly promote labor in pregnant mice by enhancing the levels of oxytocin, Cx43, and PGE2.

Background The ongoing coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)and the Omicron variant presents a formidable challenge for control and prevention worldwide,especially for low-and middle-income countries(LMICs).Hence,taking Kazakhstan and Pakistan as examples,this study aims to explore COVID-19 transmission with the Omicron variant at different contact,quarantine and test *** A disease dynamic model was applied,the population was segmented,and three time stages for Omicron transmission were established:the initial outbreak,a period of stabilization,and a second *** impact of population contact,quarantine and testing on the disease are analyzed in five scenarios to analysis their impacts on the *** statistical metrics are employed to quantify the model’s performance,including the correlation coefficient(CC),normalized absolute error,normalized root mean square error and distance between indices of simulation and observation(DISO).Results Our model has high performance in simulating COVID-19 transmission in Kazakhstan and Pakistan with high CC values greater than 0.9 and DISO values less than *** with the present measures(baseline),decreasing(increasing)the contact rates or increasing(decreasing)the quarantined rates can reduce(increase)the peak values of daily new cases and forward(delay)the peak value times(decreasing 842 and forward 2 days for Kazakhstan).The impact of the test rates on the disease are *** the start time of stage Ⅱ is 6 days,the daily new cases are more than 8 and 5 times the rate for Kazakhstan and Pakistan,respectively(29,573 vs.3259;7398 vs.1108).The impact of the start times of stageⅢon the disease are contradictory to those of stageⅡ.Conclusions For the two LMICs,Kazakhstan and Pakistan,stronger control and prevention measures can be more effective in combating ***,to reduce Omicron transmission,strict management

This study presents an integrated examination of livestock production constraints associating with communal farming in six district municipalities (DMs) of the Eastern Cape Province. We collected data on demographic and socio-economic factors from 271 farmers randomly given questionnaires. About 26 Land Redistribution for Agricultural Development (LRAD) owned by communal farmers were surveyed to ascertain the condition of grazing land, meanwhile, tick species and distribution on cattle and goats found in 158 sampling sites of the study area were also recorded. From the results, a total of 34,929 adult ticks belonging to five genera and 10 species were encountered. The most abundant tick genera were Rhipicephalus of the subgenus Boophilus (68.91%), Amblyomma (20.72%), Hyalomma (8.64%), Ixodes (1.22%), and Haemaphysalis (0.51%). Porcine post-weaning diarrhea and edema disease are principally caused by *** strains that produce F18 ***1 genotyping and receptor binding studies divided piglets into *** F18-resistant and -sensitive groups,and the roles of SLA-1 and SLA-3 were ***-1 and SLA-3 expression was detected in 11 pig tissues,with higher levels of SLA-1 in lung,immune tissues and gastrointestinal tract,and higher levels of SLA-3 also in lung and lymphoid *** genes were expressed higher in F18-resistant piglets,and their expression was positively correlated in different tissues;a negative correlation was observed in some tissues of F18-sensitive group,particularly in lung and lymphatic *** ontology and pathway analyses showed that SLA-1 and SLA-3 were involved in 37 biological processes,including nine pathways related to immune *** observations help to elucidate the relationship between SLA class I genes and E. coli F18-related porcine gastrointestinal tract diseases.

Effects of a closed-loop system against SARS-CoV-2 at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games:a descriptive and modeling study

BACKGROUND:To assess the efficacy of the epidemic prevention measures of the“closed-loop”system adopted by the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games(BOWG).METHODS:We retrospectively collected and analyzed information,including age,sex,nationality,vaccination status,date of diagnosis,and date of entry,from 280 SARS-CoV-2-positive individuals identified during the BOWG.A susceptibility-exposed-infectious-remove model was employed to evaluate the effectiveness of epidemic prevention strategies on controlling the spread of SARS-CoV-2 under different scenarios during the ***:Regarding SARS-CoV-2-positive cases,97.9%were imported,and 96.4%were *** median age was 37 years(range:29–47 years),and 73.9%were male,with the majority of cases being broadcasters and European *** vaccination status,93.5%were fully vaccinated,and six cases were considered to have been infected in the closed-loop system during the *** that the BOWG adopted a semi-closed-loop management system,the cumulative number of confirmed cases would be 1,137 for quick quarantine measures(3 d later)implemented and 5,530 for delayed quarantine measures(9 d later)*** modeling revealed that stringent pandemic prevention measures and closed-loop management effectively controlled the spread of SARS-CoV-2 during the ***:Imported cases are considered the main risk factor for SARS-CoV-2 transmission during mass gatherings,but a comprehensive closed-loop system could minimize transmission among attendees and general personnel.

TAAPP: Tiling Array Analysis Pipeline for Prokaryotes

High-density tiling arrays provide closer view of transcription than regular microarrays and can also be used for annotating functional elements in genomes. The identified transcripts usually have a complex overlapping architecture when compared to the existing genome annotation. Therefore, there is a need for customized tiling array data analysis tools. Since most of the initial tiling arrays were conducted in eukaryotes, data analysis methods are well suited for eukaryofic genomes. For using whole-genome tiling arrays to identify previously unknown transcriptional elements like small RNA and antisense RNA in prokaryotes, existing data analysis tools need to be tailored for prokaryotic genome architecture. Furthermore, automation of such custom data analysis workflow is necessary for biologists to apply this powerful platform for knowledge discovery. Here we describe TAAPP, a web-based package that consists of two modules for prokaryotic tiling array data analysis. The transcript generation module works on normalized data to generate transcriptionally active regions （TARs）. The feature extraction and annotation module then maps TARs to existing genome annotation. This module further categorizes the transcription profile into potential novel non-coding RNA, antisense RNA, gene expression and operon structures. The implemented workflow is microarray platform independent and is presented as a web-based service. The web interface is freely available for acedemic use at http：//***/TAAPP-HTML/.
