From charge storage mechanism to performance:A strategy toward boosted lithium/sodium storage through heterostructure optimization

Solving the problems of low electrical conductivity and poor cycling durability in transition metal oxidesbased anode materials for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)and sodium-ion batteries(SIBs)has already turned into an urgent requirement.In this paper,we successfully synthesized Co_(2)VO_(4)/Co compounds with Co-VMOF(metal-organic framework)as a sacrificial template and investigated their electrochemical mechanism in order to improve the electrochemical properties of LIBs and SIBs.The optimized heaping configuration and the existence of metallic Co catalyzed the formation of radical ions,thereby facilitating higher conductivity,shortening Li+and Na+transport paths,and providing more active sites.Co_(2)VO_(4)/Co constructed with 2-methylimidazole as a ligand showed a discharge capacity of 1605.1 mA h g^(-1)after 300 cycles at 0.1 A g^(-1)in LIB and 677.2 mA h g^(-1)in SIB.Density functional theory(DFT)calculation emphasizes the crucial role of Co_(2)VO_(4)/Co in enhancing electrode conductivity,decreasing the migratory energy barrier,and thereby strengthening electrochemical properties.This heterostructure building technique may pave the way for the development of high-performance LIBs and SIBs.Furthermore,the problem of the low first-loop coulombic efficiency faced by transition metal oxides is improved.

Changes in Leaf Stomatal Properties in Rice with the Growing Season

Transplanting rice varieties grown in different seasons can lead to different yields due to different dry matterproduction. Early-season rice varieties transplanted in the late season can obtain high yields with short-growthduration and higher yields driven by higher dry matter production. To make clear the variations in dry matterproduction across seasons, four early-season rice varieties were chosen for late-season transplantation. The grainyield, dry matter accumulation, leaf photosynthetic, and leaf stomatal properties were studied. It was observedthat the average yields of these four varieties in the late season were 33% greater, despite a reduced growth periodof 13 days in comparison with the early season. Furthermore, there was a notable increase in both total and postheadingdry matter production during the late season. The leaf net photosynthetic rate, stomatal area, stomatalwidth, and stomatal length were higher in the late season. Despite no significant difference in stomatal densitybetween seasons, strong positive linear relationships were observed between net photosynthetic rate and stomatalconductance, and between stomatal conductance and area. These relationships demonstrate that the increase ofthe stomatal width and length of the leaves in the late season leads to an increase in the stomatal area, therebyincreasing the stomatal conductance and enhancing the photosynthesis of the leaves. Consequently, this leads togreater dry matter production and a higher yield compared to the early season. Therefore, when breeding newhigh-yielding and short-growing varieties, the large stomatal area can be used as a reference index.

UiO-66 series metal-organic framework materials（MOFs） are typical porous materials assembled by Zr4+with a large mass-to-nucleus ratio and terephthalic acid ligands,which form tetrahedral and octahedral cages arranged in a periodic triangular window pattern.Due to the strong interaction between Zr and O,UiO-66 series MOFs exhibit high thermal stability,structural stability,and chemical stability.This article mainly reviews the applications of UiO-66 and its composites in adsorption,photocatalysis,and resource utilization,while exploring the harm of pollutants to human health and the environment.In the first part,the differences in adsorption and removal mechanisms of liquid organic pollutants,heavy metals,and volatile organic compounds（VOCs） are investigated.The results show that organic pollutants are mainly removed by physical adsorption,electrostatic interactions,hydrogen bonding,and π-π interactions,while heavy metals are mainly removed by chemical adsorption,electrostatic interactions,reduction,and chelation.VOCs are mainly removed by the pore volume and pore size structure of the material.Heterojunction catalysis can achieve non-toxic treatment of pollutants,and this study mainly focuses on UiO-based composite materials constructed by strategies such as semiconductor composites,ion doping,and metal/dye encapsulation.In the second part,the synergistic effect between the components of UiO-based composite materials promotes the oriented and rapid separation and transfer of earriers at the material interface,thereby promoting the generation of active species such as h+,·O2-and ·OH,and achieving rapid degradation of pollutants and detoxification of heavy metals.In the third part,heterojunctions can realize the resource utilization of pollutants in water and air,producing energy-type substances such as hydrogen and methanol while solving environmental problems.In addition,this article also summarizes the harm of common typical pollutants to the environment and human health.Finally,the development prospects and un

The discovery of efficient,selective,and stable electrocatalysts can be a key point to produce the largescale chemical fuels via electrochemical CO_(2) reduction(ECR).In this study,an earth-abundant and nontoxic ZnO-based electrocatalyst was developed for use in gas-diffusion electrodes(GDE),and the effect of nitrogen(N)doping on the ECR activity of ZnO electrocatalysts was investigated.Initially,a ZnO nanosheet was prepared via the hydrothermal method,and nitridation was performed at different times to control the N-doping content.With an increase in the N-doping content,the morphological properties of the nanosheet changed significantly,namely,the 2D nanosheets transformed into irregularly shaped nanoparticles.Furthermore,the ECR performance of Zn O electrocatalysts with different N-doping content was assessed in 1.0 M KHCO_(3) electrolyte using a gas-diffusion electrode-based ECR cell.While the ECR activity increased after a small amount of N doping,it decreased for higher N doping content.Among them,the N:ZnO-1 h electrocatalysts showed the best CO selectivity,with a faradaic efficiency(FE_(CO))of 92.7%at-0.73 V vs.reversible hydrogen electrode(RHE),which was greater than that of an undoped Zn O electrocatalyst(FE_(CO)of 63.4%at-0.78 V_(RHE)).Also,the N:ZnO-1 h electrocatalyst exhibited outstanding durability for 16 h,with a partial current density of-92.1 mA cm^(-2).This improvement of N:ZnO-1 h electrocatalyst can be explained by density functional theory calculations,demonstrating that this improvement of N:ZnO-1 h electrocatalyst comes from(ⅰ)the optimized active sites lowering the free energy barrier for the rate-determining step(RDS),and(ⅱ)the modification of electronic structure enhancing the electron transfer rate by N doping.

Lithium-sulfur battery(LSB)has brought much attention and concern because of high theoretical specific capacity and energy density as one of main competitors for next-generation energy storage systems.The widely commercial application and development of LSB is mainly hindered by serious“shuttle effect”of lithium polysulfides(Li PSs),slow reaction kinetics,notorious lithium dendrites,etc.In various structures of LSB materials,array structured materials,possessing the composition of ordered micro units with the same or similar characteristics of each unit,present excellent application potential for various secondary cells due to some merits such as immobilization of active substances,high specific surface area,appropriate pore sizes,easy modification of functional material surface,accommodated huge volume change,enough facilitated transportation for electrons/lithium ions,and special functional groups strongly adsorbing Li PSs.Thus many novel array structured materials are applied to battery for tackling thorny problems mentioned above.In this review,recent progresses and developments on array structured materials applied in LSBs including preparation ways,collaborative structural designs based on array structures,and action mechanism analyses in improving electrochemical performance and safety are summarized.Meanwhile,we also have detailed discussion for array structured materials in LSBs and constructed the structure-function relationships between array structured materials and battery performances.Lastly,some directions and prospects about preparation ways,functional modifications,and practical applications of array structured materials in LSBs are generalized.We hope the review can attract more researchers'attention and bring more studying on array structured materials for other secondary batteries including LSB.

Biochemical sensors have important applications in biology,chemistry,and medicine.Nevertheless,many biochemical sensors are hampered by intricate techniques,cumbersome procedures,and the need for labeling.In the past two decades,it has been discovered that liquid crystals can be used to achieve the optical amplification of biological interactions.By modifying recognition molecules,a variety of label-free biochemical sensors can be created.Consequently,biochemical sensors based on the amplification of liquid crystals have become one of the most promising sensors.This paper describes in detail the optical sensing principle of liquid crystals,sensing devices,and optical detection technologies.Meanwhile,the latest research findings are elucidated.Finally,the challenges and future research directions are discussed.

Ursolic acid inhibiting excessive reticulophagic flux contributes to alleviate ochratoxin A-induced endoplasmic reticulum stress- and mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis

Foods and animal feeds frequently become contaminated with the nephrotoxic ochratoxin A (OTA). Our prior research has indicated that ursolic acid (UA)， which is widely present in fruits and medicinal plants， has the potential to alleviate nephrotoxicity triggered by OTA. Additionally， excessive induction of endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-phagy exacerbates OTA-induced apoptosis. Therefore， further investigation is essential to comprehend whether UA can mitigate OTA-induced apoptosis by influencing ER-phagy. This objective is accomplished through a series of experiments involving assessments of cell viability， apoptosis， fluorescence microscopy， and western blot analysis. The outcomes of these experiments reveal that pre-treatment with 4 μmol/L UA for 2 h can markedly reverse the elevated apoptotic rate， the co-localization of ER and lysosomes， and the protein expressions of GRP78， p-eIF2α， Chop， Bax， and Bak， as well as the reduced cell viability and the protein expressions of Lonp1， Trap1， p62， Tex264， FAM134B， Bcl-2， and Bcl-xl， all caused by exposure to 1 μmol/L OTA for 24 h in human proximal tubule epithelial-originated kidney-2 (HK-2) cells (P < 0.05). Interestingly， the increased expression of LC3B-II induced by OTA is further amplified by UA pre-treatment (P < 0.05). In conclusion， OTA triggers a harmful feedback loop between ER stress (ERS) and excessive ER-phagy， thereby further promoting ERS- and mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis in vitro. However， this effect is significantly mitigated by UA through the inhibition of autophagosome-lysosome fusion， consequently blocking the excessive ER-phagic flux.

Combined CNN-LSTM Deep Learning Algorithms for Recognizing Human Physical Activities in Large and Distributed Manners:A Recommendation System

Recognizing human activity(HAR)from data in a smartphone sensor plays an important role in the field of health to prevent chronic diseases.Daily and weekly physical activities are recorded on the smartphone and tell the user whether he is moving well or not.Typically,smartphones and their associated sensing devices operate in distributed and unstable environments.Therefore,collecting their data and extracting useful information is a significant challenge.In this context,the aimof this paper is twofold:The first is to analyze human behavior based on the recognition of physical activities.Using the results of physical activity detection and classification,the second part aims to develop a health recommendation system to notify smartphone users about their healthy physical behavior related to their physical activities.This system is based on the calculation of calories burned by each user during physical activities.In this way,conclusions can be drawn about a person’s physical behavior by estimating the number of calories burned after evaluating data collected daily or even weekly following a series of physical workouts.To identify and classify human behavior our methodology is based on artificial intelligence models specifically deep learning techniques like Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM),stacked LSTM,and bidirectional LSTM.Since human activity data contains both spatial and temporal information,we proposed,in this paper,to use of an architecture allowing the extraction of the two types of information simultaneously.While Convolutional Neural Networks(CNN)has an architecture designed for spatial information,our idea is to combine CNN with LSTM to increase classification accuracy by taking into consideration the extraction of both spatial and temporal data.The results obtained achieved an accuracy of 96%.On the other side,the data learned by these algorithms is prone to error and uncertainty.To overcome this constraint and improve performance(96%),we proposed to use the fusion mechanisms.The last combines deep learnin

Recovery and in-situ reduction of precious metals by graphdiyne and graphdiyne oxide for antibacterial use

Based on the in-situ self-reduction and chemical stability,graphdiyne（GDY） and graphdiyne oxide（GDYO） are used as trapping agents to investigate the ability for recovering Au3+,Ag+,and Pd2+under different pH values and interfering ions.Under strong acidity at pH=1,these two agents demonstrate high select recovery towards the three precious metal ions,which could be insitu reduced to nanoparticles（NPs）.In addition,superparamagnetic Fe3O4NPs are deposited on the surfaces of GDY and GDYO.The magnetic responses enable GDYFe3O4to recover precious metals conveniently and efficiently by the aid of an external magnetic field.This study also confirms the antibacterial activity of the as-recovered NPs deposited on GDY and GDYO against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus(1 × 10～5 colony-forming unit（CFU）·ml-1),and the antibacterial rates are 100%.This strategy of recovering precious metals and subsequently reusing to combat pathogens will be of great significance for environmental remediation and biomedical applications.
