Geochemistry and in-situ U-Th/Pb geochronology of the Jambil meta-carbonatites， northern Pakistan: Implications on petrogenesis and tectonic evolution

The putative Jambil meta-carbonatites of Swat， northern Pakistan， occur as discrete intrusions into the Proterozoic Manglaur formation， which are difficult to be distinguished from nearby calc-silicate marble because both rock types experienced regional metamorphism during Himalayan orogenesis that resulted in similar mosaic textures and mineral assemblages. Carbonatites are often significant repositories of economic mineral resources and， therefore， are important to be distinguished from calc-silicate marble. We present new geochemical and geochronology data to distinguish between the two rock types and interpret the petrogenesis and tectonic evolution of the Jambil meta-carbonatites. Whole rock chemical data from the Jambil meta-carbonatites show characteristically high rare earth Element （REE）， Sr contents and lack of negative Eu anomaly， consistent with average calcio-carbonatite values worldwide and an igneous origin. More than 0.5 wt.% SrO in the meta-carbonatites and SrO >0.15 wt.% in constituent rock forming calcite are discriminating signatures of the Jambil meta-carbonatites. Chemically， the Jambil meta-carbonatites are relatively depleted in Rb， Nb， Ta， Ti， Zr and Hf， relatively enriched in Ba， Th， Sr， and have a high LREE/HREE ratio when normalized to primitive mantle. Their carbon and oxygen isotope compositions vary from -3.5‰ to -4.3‰ and from 9.7‰ to 12.3‰， respectively. These geochemical characteristics indicate generation of the carbonatites through small degree of partial melting from a carbonated eclogitic source. In-situ， U/Pb analysis of titanite indicates that the Jambil meta-carbonatites were emplacement at 438 ± 3 Ma. When combined with regional geological observations， we interpret the emplacement of the Jambil meta-carbonatites to have taken place during the Silurian back arc extension within greater Gondwana and mark a transition from a compressional tectonic regime， brought about by collision of micro-continental blocks along the norther

Despite an increase in application spectrum of rare earth elements in agriculture, all studies show that the suitable accumulation of rare earth elements can improve the crop seedling growth, but there is little research about REEs on physiological mechanisms of crops at reproductive stages. Therefore, this study was conducted to examine the possible potential benefits of lanthanum chloride(LaCl3) on the senescence and grain yield responses of maize. In this study, maize seeds were pre-treated by soaking with LaCl3 at the concentrations of 0(CK), 400(LC1), 800(LC2) and 1200(LC3) μmol/L, to evaluate its effect on the green leaf area, chlorophyll contents, photosynthesis, antioxidants, endogenous hormones in the later crop growth stages. The results show that LC1 and LC2 treatments evidently increase green leaf area, above ground dry biomass, accompanied by a distinct increase in the chlorophyll contents, and photo synthetic capacity, which promote the ear characteristics and grain yield of maize. In addition, LC1 and LC2 treatments simultaneously increase the activities of antioxidants, including superoxide dismutases, catalases, peroxidases, soluble protein, and enhanced levels of auxin, gibberellin and zeatin,following a dose-response tendency. Themalondialdehyde and abscisic acid levels transiently increase with the progression in the growth stage of the crop but are markedly decreased at LC1 and LC2 treatments, while LC3 treatment has no significant effect on malondialdehyde and even accelerates the accumulation of abscisic acid in maize leaves. Our data suggest that seed priming with LaCl3 at a suitable concentration range(400-800 μmol/L) can prolong the functional periods of leaves, increase photosynthetic capacity, enhance antioxidant activity, and alter endogenous hormone levels at reproductive stages, resulting in delaying leaf senescence rate and increasing yield. Spatio-temporal changes in rice area at the northern limits of the rice cropping system in China from 1984 to 2013

Rice area has been expanding rapidly during the past 30 years under the influence of global change in northeastern China, which is the northernmost region of rice cultivation in China. However, the spatio-temporal dynamic changes in rice area are still unclear, although they may have important policy implications for environmental protection and adaptation to climate change. In this study, we aimed to identify the dynamic changes of the rice area in Heilongjiang Province of northeastern China by extracting data from multiple Landsat images. The study used ground quadrats selected from Google earth and the extraction of a confusion matrix to verify the accuracy of extraction. The overall accuracy of the extracted rice area was higher than 95% as a result of using the artificial neural network （ANN） classification method. The results showed that the rice area increased by approximately 2.4×10^6 ha during the past 30 years at an annual rate of 8.0×10^4 ha, and most of the increase occurred after 2000. The central latitude of the rice area shifted northwards from 46 to 47°N during the study period, and moved eastwards from 130 to 133°E. The rice expansion area accounted for 98% of the total change in rice area, and rice loss was notably rare. The rice expansion was primarily from dryland. In addition, rice cultivation in marshland and grassland played a minor role in the rice expansion in this region.

This is a multidimensional review of mangrove fungi occurring as saprobes,pathogens and endophytes of a wide range of host substrates and those isolated from the water columns and sediments in ***-hundred and fifty taxa including 658 that are supported by both morphology and molecular data and 192 with only morphological data are *** constitute Ascomycota,the dominant group with 773 species,and 58 Basidiomycota,one Blastocladiomycota,five Chytridiomycota,and 13 *** study also includes data on mangrove yeasts 103 Ascomycota,39 Basidi-omycota and 193 taxa isolated from *** isolated from submerged parts of mangrove plants total *** most specious orders of mangrove fungi are Pleosporales 133,Saccharomycetales 102,Microascales 101,Eurotiales 87,Hypocreales 60 and Xylariales *** genera include Candida 39,Aspergillus 53,Penicillium 17 and Corollospora *** highest number of mangrove fungi have been recorded from the Pacific Ocean 553,which is the largest ocean,followed by Indian 408 and Atlantic Oceans *** distribution of mangrove fungi varied from ocean to ocean with only 109 taxa common to the Atlantic,Indian and Pacific *** the various countries reported for mangrove fungi,India accommodates the highest number(339)followed by Thailand 303,Malaysia 171,Florida Everglades,USA 134 and Brunei 134.A total of 60 different mangrove plants and their associates have been surveyed for mangrove *** results are discussed and compared with previous studies.

Evolution of Siderian juvenile crust to Rhyacian high Ba-Sr magmatism in the Mineiro Belt, southern S?o Francisco Craton

Plutonic rocks from the Mineiro Belt, Brazil record a delayed onset of the transition from TTG to sanukitoid-type magmatism（high Ba-Sr）, starting during the Siderian magmatic lull when little juvenile magma was added to the continental crust. Rocks mostly belong to the calc-alkaline series, meta-to peraluminous and originally ＂Ⅰ-type＂,meaning that oxidized magmas were formed by partial melting of subducted material. The temporal distribution and apparent secular changes of the magmas are consistent with the onset of subduction-driven plate tectonics due to an increase of the subduction angle and opening of the mantle wedge. New isotopic analyses（Sm-Nd whole rock and Lu-Hf in zircon）corroborate the restricted juvenile nature of the Mineiro Belt and confirm the genetic link between the Lagoa Dourada Suite,a rare ca. 2350 Ma high-Al tonalite-trondhjemite magmatic event, and the sanukitoid-type ca. 2130 Ma Alto Maranhao Suite. U-Pb dating of zircon and titanite constrain the crystallisation history of plutonic bodies; coupled with major and trace element analyses of the host rocks, they distinguish evolutionary trends in the Mineiro Belt. Several plutons in the region have ages close to 2130 Ma but are distinguished by the lower concentration of compatible elements in the juvenile high Ba-Sr suite.
