Operating an international archive for digital information resources by a relatively small organization as the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (KB) asks for a firm foundation of its policy. Continuing research and development efforts to secure permanent preservation and access to electronic information on a national and international scale require substantial financial, technical and staffing commitments. Cooperation in sharing resources and knowledge is called for. In the national context of the netherlands the KB recently took the initiative to build the national Digital Preservation Coalition. All relevant sectors of Dutch society are represented. Its aim is to develop a national infrastructure and to assign clear responsibilities. In the European arena the KB, together with the British library, started the European Alliance for Permanent Access to the Records of Science. The Alliance works towards the widespread and joint responsibility for maintaining the records of science by all major stakeholders, including national governments and the EU. In the global context the KB developed the concept of the "Safe Places Network" . This Network will include a limited number of institutions with certified digital archives for scientific publications, sharing responsibility for complete, world-wide coverage and allocate tasks accordingly.

After a whistleblower exposed a large-scale fraud,there has been a surge in retractions,affecting scientific integrity and attracting extensive attention from various stakeholders.1,2 Countries,institutes,and journals are among the entities receiving special attention.3,4 However,our understanding of the actual prevalence of misconduct across disciplines and topics remains *** studies of academic misconduct have primarily focused on biomedical and life sciences,3 but have paid little attention to the broader scientific fields.

Human agency has become increasingly limited in complex systems with increasingly automated decision-making *** instance,human occupants are passengers and do not have direct vehicle control in fully automated cars(i.e.,driverless cars).An interesting question is whether users are responsible for the accidents of these *** ethical and legal analyses frequently argue that individuals should not bear responsibility for harm beyond their ***,we consider human judgment of responsibility for accidents involving fully automated cars through three studies with seven experiments(N=2668).We compared the responsibility attributed to the occupants in three conditions:an owner in his private fully automated car,a passenger in a driverless robotaxi,and a passenger in a conventional taxi,where none of these three occupants have direct vehicle control over the involved vehicles that cause identical pedestrian *** contrast to normative analyses,we show that the occupants of driverless cars(private cars and robotaxis)are attributed more responsibility than conventional taxi *** dilemma is robust across different contexts(e.g.,participants from China vs the Republic of Korea,participants with first-vs third-person perspectives,and occupant presence vs absence).Furthermore,we observe that this is not due to the perception that these occupants have greater control over driving but because they are more expected to foresee the potential consequences of using driverless *** findings suggest that when driverless vehicles(private cars and taxis)cause harm,their users may face more social pressure,which public discourse and legal regulations should manage appropriately.

Purpose:The notable increase in retraction papers has attracted considerable attention from diverse *** sources are now offering information related to research integrity,including concerns voiced on social media,disclosed lists of paper mills,and retraction notices accessible through journal ***,despite the availability of such resources,there remains a lack of a unified platform to consolidate this information,thereby hindering efficient searching and ***,it is imperative to develop a comprehensive platform for retracted papers and related *** article aims to introduce“Amend,”a platform designed to integrate information on research integrity from diverse ***/methodology/approach:The Amend platform consolidates concerns and lists of problematic articles sourced from social media platforms(e.g.,PubPeer,For Better Science),retraction notices from journal websites,and citation databases(e.g.,Web of Science,CrossRef).Moreover,Amend includes investigation and punishment announcements released by administrative agencies(e.g.,NSFC,MOE,MOST,CAS).Each related paper is marked and can be traced back to its information source via a provided ***,the Amend database incorporates various attributes of retracted articles,including citation topics,funding details,open access status,and *** reasons for retraction are identified and classified as either academic misconduct or honest errors,with detailed subcategories provided for further ***:Within the Amend platform,a total of 32,515 retracted papers indexed in SCI,SSCI,and ESCI between 1980 and 2023 were *** these,26,620(81.87%)were associated with academic *** retraction rate stands at 6.64 per 10,000 ***,the retraction rate for non-gold open access articles significantly differs from that for gold open access articles,with this disparity progressively widening over the ***,the reasons

The stance and factors of international organizations towards countries from a Chinese perspective

The degree and scope of constraints imposed by International Organizations(IOs)on States are increasing,and identifying the factors affecting the IOs’stances on States is helpful to enhance the state's discourse power and influence in the international ***,by coding the records of Regular Press Conferences of the Speaking Office of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the period of 20182022,we obtained a dataset of IOs’stances on China-related ***,we constructed political relation,economic relation,and humanistic relation indicators to complement the influence factors,adopted the Bayesian logit model,and applied the Monte Carlo Markov chain algorithm and Gibbs sampling to analyze the probability of IOs’positive stances towards *** result shows that IOs’category,length of establishment,functional position,and relationship with China are all related to their tendency of making a statement about *** terms of the heterogeneity of event types,forum-type IOs are significantly inclined to give positive assessment compared to service-type IOs on events focusing on China's own *** analysis reveals that the model for analyzing and predicting the attitudes of IOs is more effective when the international situation is in a stable period.

An explorative study on document type assignment of review articles in Web of Science,Scopus and journals’websites

Purpose:Accurately assigning the document type of review articles in citation index databases like Web of Science(WoS)and Scopus is *** study aims to investigate the document type assignation of review articles in Web of Science,Scopus and Publisher’s websites on a large ***/methodology/approach:27,616 papers from 160 journals from 10 review journal series indexed in SCI are *** document types of these papers labeled on journals’websites,and assigned by WoS and Scopus are retrieved and compared to determine the assigning accuracy and identify the possible reasons for wrongly *** the document type labeled on the website,we further differentiate them into explicit review and implicit review based on whether the website directly indicates it is a review or ***:Overall,WoS and Scopus performed similarly,with an average precision of about 99% and recall of about 80%.However,there were some differences between WoS and Scopus across different journal series and within the same journal *** assigning accuracy of WoS and Scopus for implicit reviews dropped significantly,especially for *** limitations:The document types we used as the gold standard were based on the journal websites’labeling which were not manually validated one by *** only studied the labeling performance for review articles published during 2017-2018 in review *** this conclusion can be extended to review articles published in non-review journals and most current situation is not very *** implications:This study provides a reference for the accuracy of document type assigning of review articles in WoS and Scopus,and the identified pattern for assigning implicit reviews may be helpful to better labeling on websites,WoS and ***/value:This study investigated the assigning accuracy of document type of reviews and identified the some patterns of wrong assignments.

Tuning the crystallinity of titanium nitride on copper-embedded carbon nanofiber interlayers for accelerated electrochemical kinetics in lithium-sulfur batteries

The development of lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries is hindered by the disadvantages of shuttling of polysulfides and the sluggish redox kinetics of the conversion of sulfur species during discharge and ***,the crystallinities of a titanium nitride(TiN)film on copper-embedded carbon nanofibers(Cu-CNFs)are regulated and the nanofibers are used as interlayers to resolve the aforementioned crucial issues.A low-crystalline TiN-coated Cu-CNF(L-TiN-Cu-CNF)interlayer is compared with its highly crystalline counterpart(H-TiN-Cu-CNFs).It is demonstrated that the L-TiN coating not only strengthens the chemical adsorption toward polysulfides but also greatly accelerates the electrochemical conversion of *** to robust carbon frameworks and enhanced kinetics,impressive highrate performance at 2 C(913 mAh g^(-1)based on sulfur)as well as remarkable cyclic stability up to 300 cycles(626 mAh g^(-1))with capacity retention of 46.5%is realized for L-TiN-Cu-CNF interlayer-configured Li-S *** under high loading(3.8 mg cm^(-2))of sulfur and relatively lean electrolyte(10μL electrolyte per milligram sulfur)conditions,the Li-S battery equipped with L-TiN-Cu-CNF interlayers delivers a high capacity of 1144 mAh g^(-1)with cathodic capacity of 4.25 mAh cm^(-2)at 0.1 C,providing a potential pathway toward the design of multifunctional interlayers for highly efficient Li-S batteries.

In the past two decades,the research and development of light-triggered molecular machines have mainly focused on developing molecular devices at the nanoscale.A key scientific issue in the field is how to amplify the controlled motion of molecules at the nanoscale along multiple length scales,such as the mesoscopic or the macroscopic scale,or in a more practical perspective,how to convert molecular motion into changes of properties of a macroscopic ***-driven molecular motors are able to perform repetitive unidirectional rotation upon irradiation,which offers unique opportunities for responsive macroscopic *** several reviews that focus on the design,synthesis and operation of the motors at the nanoscale,photo-responsive macroscopic materials based on light-driven molecular motors have not been comprehensively *** the present review,we first discuss the strategy of confining absolute molecular rotation into relative rotation by grafting motors on ***,examples of self-assemble motors in supramolecular polymers with high internal order are ***,we will focus on building of motors in a covalently linked system such as polymeric gels and polymeric liquid crystals to generate complex responsive ***,a perspective toward future developments and opportunities is *** review helps us getting a more and more clear picture and understanding on how complex movement can be programmed in light-responsive systems and how man-made adaptive materials can be invented,which can serve as an important guideline for further design of complex and advanced responsive materials.
