The main purpose of the national nutrition and health Systematic Survey for children 0-17 years of age in China(CNHSC)was to collect basic data on the nutrition,development,and health status for children in different regions across China using evidence-based,reliable,and cost-effective approaches.Children and their parents or guardians from seven regions(south,southwest,north,northwest,eastern,central,and northeast China)in China were recruited.A multi-stage stratified randomized sampling method was used.Two provinces were randomly sampled from each of the seven regions,from which one urban district and one rural country were also randomly sampled,resulting in a total of 28 survey counties/districts.Dietary surveys,health examinations,laboratory testing,and questionnaires were used to collect dietary intake,nutritional status,child development,and health status information.nutrition,health,and lifestyle assessment of children and their parents was determined using the Knowledge Attitude Practice(KAP)survey.Greater than 100,000 children(38,000 childrennutrition and health status for future studies and will serve as the basis for an integrated nutrition and health improvement strategies proposal for children in China.

China has conducted four rounds of national nutrition Survey or national nutrition and health Surveillance in 1959, 1982, 1992 and 2002 respectively. The investigation results and data information plays a positive role in understanding residents’ dietary structure, nutrition level, clinical and epidemic characteristics and change rules of nutrition-related chronic diseases;evaluating the nutrition and health status of the urban and rural population in our country;making relative policies and disease prevention measures. It also provides basic data for Outline of the Program for Food and nutrition Development in China, Chinese Dietary Reference Intakes, and Chinese Dietary Guidelines, etc. This article makes a comparative analysis on samples, contents and methods of the 1959, 1982, 1992, 2002 national nutrition Survey and the 2010-2013 national nutrition and health Surveillance, which provides support to related investigations and researches in future.

Variations in Rope Skipping Counts Among Rural Primary and Secondary School Students—China,2013–2021

Beginning in 2011,the nutrition Improvement Program for Rural Compulsory Education Students(NIPRCES)was established to enhance the nutrition and health of students in rural areas and promote educational equity.The central government offers nutritional meal subsidies to compulsory education students,aged 6–15 years,in underdeveloped counties.Monitoring and evaluation have been conducted annually from 2012 to 2017 and in 2019 and 2021.Additionally,data regarding the nutritional and health status of students in the national pilot areas have been regularly collected from 2012 to 2021.NIPRCES has effectively mitigated growth retardation and anemia among rural children(1).

The prevalence of childhood overweight and obesity has been increasing rapidly worldwide(1).In the 2020 Report on Chinese Residents’Chronic Diseases and nutrition,the rates of overweight and obesity among Chinese children aged 6–17 years were reported to be 11.1%and 7.9%,respectively.Childhood obesity is associated with both physical and mental health problems during childhood,as well as a range of noncommunicable diseases in adulthood,such as cardiovascular diseases,hypertension,and Type II diabetes(2–3).

A balanced consumption of various types of food items plays a crucial role in students’physical and intellectual development,providing the foundation for their lifelong health(1).In recent years,the living standards in China have improved,leading to a steady improvement in the intake of various foods among Chinese students(2).However,uneven socioeconomic development and differing natural environments may lead to disparities in food consumption between rural and urban students(3).The prevalence of malnutrition among rural students has decreased but remains higher than among urban students(4).Furthermore,consumption of various healthy foods increased during the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic as a means to boost immunity and promote health(5).

Summary What is already known about this topic?Chinese dietary guidelines recommend an intake of milk and dairy products to be closely related to human health.Although the production capacity of dairy in China is strong,the per capita consumption of dairy products is not high.What is added by this report?This report showed that the consumption rate of milk and dairy products of junior high and senior high school students in China was 82.5%from 2016 to 2017.Only 44.1%of them consumed milk and dairy products every day.Only 20.4%of these students reached intake levels recommended by the Dietary guidelines for Chinese residents(2016).What are the implications for public health practice?Milk and dairy products are a key food group in a healthy dietary pattern.To cultivate a healthy eating habit of including dairy for children and adolescents,the government,suppliers,schools,and parents need to cooperate together.

Good nutritional status in childhood serves as the foundation for lifelong health.Malnutrition during childhood can not only impede children’s growth and development,but also lead to a higher incidence of chronic diseases in adulthood,thereby increasing the socioeconomic burden.In order to improve the nutritional and health status of children living in economically underdeveloped rural areas,the Chinese government implemented the nutrition Improvement Program for Rural Compulsory Education Students(NIPRCES)in November 2011(1).The central government provides nutritional meal subsidies to rural compulsory education students in underdeveloped counties.Initially,NIPRCES covered rural area of 699 national pilot counties across 22 provincial-level administrative divisions(PLADs)in the central and western regions of China.By 2021,the program expanded to encompass 727 national pilot counties and 1,010 local pilot counties spanning 28 provinces in the eastern,central,and western regions of China,serving more than 36 million students.

To the Editor:The epidemic of diabetes mellitus poses a major public health threat worldwide.In the United States,the prevalence of type 2 diabetes(T2D)affected 13.9%of adults and would continually increase.[1]Diet is one of the major lifestyle risk factors for T2D,in which dietary iron has generated substantial interest over the past 20 years.[2,3]It is to be noted that dietary vitamins A,B2,B6,E,C,and folic acid were reported to affect the absorption or oxidation of iron in body.[4]However,whether these dietary vitamins play a role in iron-related T2D remains unclear.Further research revealing the holistic role of these dietary vitamins in the association between iron and T2D is needed,which would provide important guidance for decreasing the risk of iron-related T2D.The present study aimed to examine the association between dietary iron and T2D in the national health and nutrition Examination Survey(NHANES)and evaluate whether holistic dietary vitamins affect this relationship.

Characterization of mycobacterium isolates from pulmomary tuberculosis suspected cases visiting Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory at Ethiopian health and nutrition Research institute,Addis Ababa Ethiopia:a cross sectional study

Objective:To characterize mycobaclerium isolates from pulmomary tuberculosis suspected cases visiting national Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory at Ethiopian health and nutrition Research institute,for diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis from January 4 to February 22.2010 with total samples of 263.Methods:Sputum specimens were collected and processed:the deposits were cultured.Por culturing Lowenstein Jensen medium(LJ) and Mycobacteria Growth Indicator Tube(BACTEC MGIT 960) were used.Capilia Neo was used for detecting NTM isolates from isolates of BACTEC MGIT960.In Armauer Hansen Research institute,Addis Ababa Ethiopia,Deletion typing PCR method for species identification(from confirmed Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex(MTBC) isolates by Capilia Neo) uas done.Results:Out of 263 enrolled in the study.124 and 117 ol them were positive for mycobaeterium growth by BACTEC MGIT 960 and 1.1 culture method,respectively.From BACTEC MGIT 960 positive media of 124 isolates.117 were randomly taken to perform Capilia TB Neo lest.From these 7(6%) of them were found to be NTM and 110(94%) were MTBC.From these 110 MTBC isolates,81 of them were randomly taken and run by the deletion typing RD9 PCR method of molecular technique.Out of these 78(96.3%) were found to be species of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and 3(3.7%) were found to be not in the MTBC.Regarding the types of methods of culture media.Mycobacteria Growth Indicator Tube(BACTEC MGIT 960) method was found to have excellent agreement(with kappa value ol 0.78) with the routine method of LJ.Conclusions:Pulmonary tuberculosis suspected cases visiting the national Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory at EHNR1 that were confirmed to be pulmonary tuberculosis are caused by the species of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.hence treatment regimen including pyrazinamide can be applied to the patients as the first choice in the study area in Addis Ababa.Ethiopia.There is indication of the presence of NTM in patients visiting the tuberculosis reference laboratory and this is important because
