The effects of shielding gas and post weld heat treatment on the pitting resistance, stress corrosion crack- ing and hydrogen embrittlement of supermartensitic stainless steel deposits were studied. Two all-weld-metal test coupons were prepared using a metal-cored wire under Ar＋ 5% He and Ar＋18%CO2 gas shielding mixtures. Solubi- lizing and solubilizing plus double tempering heat treatments were done with the objective of achieving different mi crostructural results, The samples welded under Ar＋5% He showed higher pitting corrosion resistance, for all post weld heat treatments, than those welded under Ar＋18% CO2. The different post weld heat treatments generated higher susceptibility to this corrosion mechanism. None of the samples presented signs of stress corrosion cracking, but in those subjected to the heat treatment, grain boundary selective attack was observed, on the surfaces of all the samples studied. The samples with highest hardness were more susceptible to hydrogen damage, thereby leading to reduced tensile strength on this condition.

Droughts that occurred in selected areas located in homogeneous regions of South America during the austral springs(SON)and summers(DJF)from 1982 to 2019 are identified using the Standard Precipitation Index(SPI).Four areas were analyzed for droughts in SON,and three areas were analyzed for droughts in *** areas in the Amazon suffered from the majority of their droughts during El Niño years,while most of the droughts in the areas of southern Brazil,Uruguay,and North Argentina occurred during La Niña *** southeastern and central-western parts of Brazil,droughts occurred during both phases of El Nino-Southern Oscillation(ENSO)and also during neutral ***,other processes besides ENSO are likely related to the observed *** droughts were investigated for each area and month,and composites of atmospheric and oceanic variables during both seasons were analyzed for the selected *** and large-scale field composites were examined to identify the main processes associated with dry conditions in the different *** features were related to the influence of high pressure over southern and southeastern areas and the divergence of moisture flux in all *** circulations contributed to subsidence over the dry *** large-scale influential features include SST anomalies,wavetrains over the South Pacific Ocean with centers of action over South America that produced subsidence in the study areas,and convection anomalies in the Maritime continent and surrounding ***,the droughts were associated with a combination of regional and large-scale features that produced subsidence over the analyzed regions.

We have analyzed the July 15, 2009, Fiordland earthquake （Mw 7.8）, which occurred in the southwestern part of the South Island of New Zealand. This thrust-related earthquake in the southern Fiordland subduction zone is the largest New Zealand earthquake in the past 80 years. We have constrained a rupture model for this earthquake using coseismic offsets derived from the continuous geodetic network （Global Positioning System） of the New Zealand Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences （GNS Science）. Our analysis concludes that this earthquake significantly increased the Coulomb stress on the overriding plate, particularly on the offshore portion of the Alpine fault.

For several decades,serum levels of alanine(ALT) and aspartate(AST) aminotransferases have been regarded as markers of liver injury,including a wide range of etiologies from viral hepatitis to fatty *** increasing worldwide prevalence of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease revealed that transaminases are strong predictors of type 2 diabetes,coronary heart disease,atherothrombotic risk profile,and overall risk of metabolic ***,it is plausible to suggest that aminotransferases are surrogate biomarkers of "liver metabolic functioning" beyond the classical concept of liver cellular damage,as their enzymatic activity might actually reflect key aspects of the physiology and pathophysiology of the liver *** this study,we summarize the background information and recent findings on the biological role of ALT and AST,and review the knowledge gained from the application of genome-wide approaches and "omics" technologies that uncovered new concepts on the role of aminotransferases in human diseases and systemic regulation of metabolic *** of biomolecular interactions between the candidate genes recently discovered to be associated with plasma concentrations of liver enzymes showed interesting interconnectivity nodes,which suggest that regulation of aminotransferase activity is a complex and highly regulated ***,links between aminotransferase genes and metabolites are explored to understand the genetic contributions to the metabolic diversity.

The surface liquid segregation(SLS) phenomenon in semi-solid metal-high pressure die casting(SSM-HPDC) plates of 7075,2024,6082 and A201 was investigated by different *** profiles were determined by firstly measuring the chemical composition of the surface of the plates using a Thermo Quantris optical emission spectrometer(OES).Material was then removed by a grinding process followed by measurement of the amount of material removed and chemical *** profiles of the main alloying elements were plotted for the cross-section of the plates in the as-cast and T6(after solution treatment) temper *** hardness profiles from the surface to the centre of the plates were *** samples of cross-sections of the castings were prepared and evaluated using a scanning electron *** results show that surface liquid segregation in SSM-HPDC alloys causes significant differences in properties between the surface and the bulk of these castings in both the F and T6 temper conditions.

The present investigation examines the viability of dolochar, a sponge iron industry waste material, as a reductant in the reduction roasting of iron ore slimes, which are another waste generated by iron ore beneficiation plants. Under statistically determined optimum conditions, which include a temperature of 900°C, a reductant-to-feed mass ratio of 0.35, and a reduction time of 30–45 min, the roasted mass, after being subjected to low-intensity magnetic separation, yielded an iron ore concentrate of approximately 64 wt% Fe at a mass recovery of approximately 71% from the feed iron ore slime assaying 56.2 wt% Fe. X-ray diffraction analyses indicated that the magnetic products contain magnetite and hematite as the major phases, whereas the nonmagnetic fractions contain quartz and hematite.

Nozzle blocking was eliminated by calcium-treated liquid steel through changing the chemical and phase composition of alumina inclusions in aluminium-killed steel. Three different methods were applied to determine the composition of inclusions in liquid steel： total oxygen content samples, sampling spoon samples, and ＂lollipop＂ steel samples. The results show that calcium modification of liquid steel influences the inclusion composition varying from 2wt% to 14wt% depending on the method used. The composition of inclusions contains mainly Al2O3-CaO only, or is associated with SiO2 or MgO depending on the initial input. The methods used in this study are indicators of the inclusion composition but can be improved to quantify the inclusion size.
