Structure of the Potential Vorticity of an Explosive Cyclone over the Eastern Asian Region in Late November 2013

An explosive extratropical cyclone(EC)over the Eastern Asian region that caused two shipwrecks is analyzed using ERA-Interim reanalysis data from the European Center for Medium-Range Weather *** of the evolution of the EC reveal that the positive potential vorticity(PV)at the upper-tropospheric level displays a hook-shaped structure during the mature period of the *** PV distribution forms a vertically coherent PV structure called a PV *** vertical distribution of the PV can induce and strengthen cyclonic circulation from the lower-to upper-levels of troposphere,which is an important deepening mechanism of explosive *** PV tower occurs approximately ten hours prior to the development of surface occlusion in the *** evolution of surface fronts closely follows the development of the horizontal upper-tropospheric *** tandem development is largely attributed to the ability of the positive upper-tropospheric PV and the PV tower to induce cyclonic circulation *** kinematic wrap-up process of cyclonic circulation also accelerates the formation of warm occlusion.A conceptual model of the distributions of positive PV and potential temperature combining the perspectives of dynamic tropopause folding,PV tower,and atmospheric stability,including westward tilting and baroclinicity,is *** model can illustrate the explosive deepening mechanism of *** regions of convective instability and rainfall determined by this model are consistent with those identified from the actual observation.

In February 2019,a month-long persistent precipitation event occurred in the Yangtze–Huaihe River *** geopotential height field that affected the duration of this frontal rainfall was divided into a high-latitude part and a lowlatitude part for *** the high-latitude part,a two-wave structure led to quasi-stationary circulation,and the change of both the blocking high pressure and Arctic Oscillation phase caused cold air to invade South China continuously and changed the frontal *** mid-to-low latitudes,the persistent precipitation showed quasi-biweekly oscillation *** so-called“subtropical high–precipitation–anticyclone”(SHPA)feedback mechanism blocked the circulation systems in the mid-to-low latitudes and provided a continuous supply of water vapor for *** for the effect of sea surface temperature,the western North Pacific anomalous anticyclone stimulated by El Niño strengthened the intensity of the southerly wind and provided support for the redevelopment of the anticyclone system in the SHPA feedback *** sea surface temperature anomaly in the South China Sea provided sensible heating for precipitation,and convergent rising airflow was conducive to the occurrence of ***,the SHPA mechanism provides a reliable basis for the prediction of persistent precipitation in winter in the mid-to-low latitudes.

According to the phenomenon that the physical properties have,a great effect on the electric capability of carbon fiber reinforced concrete, the author researched the relationship between DC resistance of carbon fiber reinforced concrete and curing age using the two-probe method. Then the effect of insulative area, location and quantity on DC resistance of carbon fiber reinforced concrete was investigated at different curing age with analysis of hydration. The results suggest that DC resistance increases greatly with its curing age, which illustrates the relationship like Gaussian curve. In every curing ages the electric capability of carbon fiber reinforced concrete weakenes with the increase of insulative area. In same curing ages, section and insulative area, the more the quantity of insulation, the stronger the conductibility. The insulative location in optimal position can only result in optimal conductibility.

Climatic characteristics of China-influencing typhoons (CIT) were analyzed in this paper. Main characteristics include:(1) CIT season is May-November, especially from July to September. (2) Frequency of the CIT shows a decreasing trend during 1951-2004, especially after the late period of the 1960s. (3) Strong CIT also shows an obvious decreasing trend. Meanwhile, there exist obvious interdecadal variations in the CIT genesis, being more southward and eastward than normal in 1960s-1970s, and more northward and westward than normal in the 1980s. In addition, the interrelations between CIT and its environmental factors show that CIT has close relationships with sea surface temperature and East Asian summer monsoon;the structure of the circulations in frequent CIT years is much different from that in infrequent CIT years.

In previous statistical forecast models,prediction of summer precipitation along the Yangtze River valley and in North China relies heavily on its close relationships with the western Pacific subtropical high（WPSH）,the blocking high in higher latitudes,and the East Asian summer monsoon（EASM）.These relationships were stable before the 1990 s but have changed remarkably in the recent two *** the 1990 s,precipitation along the Yangtze River had a significant positive correlation with the intensity of the WPSH,but the correlation weakened rapidly after 1990,and the correlation between summer rainfall in North China and the WPSH also changed from weak negative to significantly *** changed relationships present a big challenge to the application of traditional statistical seasonal prediction *** study indicates that the change could be attributed to expansion of the WPSH after around *** to global warming,increased sea surface temperatures in the western Pacific rendered the WPSH stronger and further *** this condition,more moisture was transported from southern to northern China,leading to divergence and reduced（increased） rainfall over the Yangtze River（North China）.On the other hand,when the WPSH was weaker,it stayed close to its climatological position（rather than more eastward）,and the circulations showed an asymmetrical feature between the stronger and weaker WPSH cases owing to the decadal enhancement of the *** analysis reveals that the maximum difference in the moisture transport before and after 1990 appeared over the western *** asymmetric influence is possibly the reason why the previous relationships between monsoon circulations and summer rainfall have now changed.

Cardiastethus exiguus Poppius is an indigenous anthocorid predator of eggs and neonates of the notorious pest,coconut black-headed caterpillar Opisina arenosella Walker in *** the national bureau of Agriculturally Important Insects(Indian Council of Agricultural Research),Bangalore,India,a simple mass production protocol was developed for multiplying *** using UV-irradiated eggs of alternate laboratory host Corcyra cephalonica *** evaluation of the predator in the states of Kerala and Karnataka indicated that this predator could bring about a significant reduction in the pest ***,the need was felt to investigate the storage efficacy of the eggs and adults of *** so that sufficient numbers could be accumulated and transportation of the predator could be planned for field *** temperature storage studies indicated that *** eggs can be safely stored for up to 5 days at 10℃ and 10 days at 15℃ and incubation period could be staggered for up to 10 and 13 days,*** longevity of the *** adults was significantly reduced due to low temperature ***,for adult females,a storage temperature of 15℃ for 15 days could be recommended as they could live for a more than a month after removal from storage and their progeny production was comparable to that of the control adults.

New type of potassium deposit: Modal analysis and preparation of potassium carbonate

A kind of dolomitic mudstone newly found in North China has high amounts of K2O up to 10wB% in average, and potassium reserve is at superior scale. Mineral assemblage of the potassium ore indicates a specific and complicated geological environment under which the po-tassium deposit formed. Modal analysis of the potassium host rock shows that the principal min-erals in the ore include microcline, dolomite, and clay minerals such as illite, illite/smectite mixed layer, and kaolinite, attributable to a new type of insoluble potassium deposits in ore genesis. The experiments in this research demonstrated that with sodium carbonate as flux agent, the potas-sium ore could be decomposed with a proportion as high as 99.4% by calcinations at moderate temperature for no more than 1.5―2.0 h; more than 70% of K2O in the calcined materials were leached into the liquor, and by acidification reaction of the filter liquor, a large amount of impuri-ties such as Fe3+, Ti4+, Mn2+, Mg2+, and Ca2+ were removed with precipitation of alumino-silicious colloid residue, which makes it possible to prepare potassium carbonate of electronic grade from the filter liquor, whereas the alumino-silicious residue could be utilized to make mineral polymer, a new type of inorganic construction structural materials. The current research shows that in-dustrial exploitation and comprehensive utilization of this new type of insoluble potassium re-source are feasible both in economic benefits and environmental kindness with the fairly clean production process as sketched in this paper.
