Controlling the size and distribution of potential barriers within a medium of interacting particles can unveil unique collective behaviors and innovative functionalities. We introduce a unique superconducting hybrid device using a novel artificial spin ice structure composed of asymmetric nanomagnets. This structure forms a distinctive superconducting pinning potential that steers unconventional motion of superconducting vortices, thereby inducing a magnetic nonreciprocal effect, in contrast to the electric nonreciprocal effect commonly observed in superconducting diodes. Furthermore, the polarity of the magnetic nonreciprocity is in situ reversible through the tunable magnetic patterns of artificial spin ice. Our findings demonstrate that artificial spin ice not only precisely modulates superconducting characteristics but also opens the door to novel functionalities, offering a groundbreaking paradigm for superconducting electronics.

Based on the theory of emergy analysis,a modified model of ecological footprint accounting,termed emergetic ecological footprint(EMEF)in contrast to the conventional ecological footprint(EF)model,is formulated and applied to a case study of Jiangsu cropland,China.Comparisons between the EF and the EMEF with respect to grain,cotton,and food oil were outlined.Per capita EF and EMEF of cropland were also presented to depict the resources consumption level by comparing the biocapacity(BC)or emergetic biocapacity(EMBC,a new BC calculation by emergy analysis) of the same area.In the meanwhile,the ecological sustainability index(ESI),a new concept initiated by the authors, was established in the modified model to indicate and compare the sustainability of cropland use at different levels and between different regions.The results from conventional EF showed that per capita EF of the cropland has exceeded its per capita BC in Jiangsu since 1986.In contrast,based on the EMBC,the per capita EMEF exceeded the per capita EMBC 5 years earlier.The ESIs of Jiangsu cropland use were between 0.7 and 0.4 by the conventional method,while the numbers were between 0.7 and 0.3 by the modified one.The fact that the results of the two methods were similar showed that the modified model was reasonable and feasible,although some principles of the EF and EMEF were quite different. Also,according to the realities of Jiangsu cropland use,the results from the modified model were more acceptable.

FVactionation of heavy metals in sediments can help in understanding potential hazards of heavy metals. The present study analyzed total concentrations and fractions of selected heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, and Zn) in surface sediments from Dianchi Lake, Yunnan Province, China, as well as factors that may affect distributions of the various heavy metal fractions. Total concentrations of the heavy metals decreased in the order Zn > Cu > Pb > Cr > Cd. These heavy metals, except Cr, were much higher than their background levels, indicating that Dianchi Lake was polluted by Cd, Zn, Pb, and Cu. Cadmium occurred mainly as the non-residual fraction (sum of the HOAc-soluble, reducible, and oxidizable fractions) (97.6%), and Zn (55.7%) was also predominantly found in the non-residual fraction. In contrast, most of the Cr (88.5%), Pb (81.8%), and Cu (59.2%) occurred in the residual fraction. Correlation analysis showed that total heavy metal concentrations, organic matter and reducible Fe were the main factors affecting the distributions of the various heavy metal fractions. In the Waihai section of Dianchi Lake (comprising 97% of the lake area), the concentrations of Cd, Zn, Pb, and Cu in the non-residual fraction were significantly lower (P < 0.01 or 0.05) than those of the Caohai section (3% of the lake area). This indicated that potential heavy metal hazards in the Caohai section were greater than the Waihai section.

Epoxidation of cyclohexene to cyclohexene oxide was studied in a new type reactor—the ultrasound airlift loop reactor. The influences of ultrasound intensity, molar ratio of isobutyraldehyde to cyclohexene and oxy-gen gas flow rate on the conversion of cyclohexene and selectivity of cyclohexene oxide were investigated and dis-cussed, and the optimal operation condition was found, under which 95.2% conversion of cyclohexene and 90.7% selectivity of cyclohexene oxide were achieved. The ultrasonic airlift loop reactor utilizes the synergistic effect of sonochemsitry and higher oxygen transfer rate. Possible reaction mechanisms were outlined and the reason of ul-trasound promotion of epoxidation reactionwas analyzed.

X-ray absorption spectra(XAS) at Mn K-edge and Fe K-edge in LaMn1-x Fe x O3show that with the increase of Fe substitution the chemical valence of Mn4+decreases,while the chemical valence of Fe3+remains unchanged.Structural distortions,such as the rotating and tilting for oxygen octahedron in the unit cell vary with iron content.A phase transition occurs at the Fe content values of 0.2～0.3.The evolutions of rotation and tilting angle of FeO6/MnO6octahedral may be the vital factors to the structure and magnetism.We believe that the spin configuration of Fe3+may vary from the intermediate spin t42g e1g(S = 3/2) to the higher spin t32g e2g(S = 5/2) near the phase transition.

A Multiscale Point-Supervised Network for Counting Maize Tassels in the Wild

Accurate counting of maize tassels is essential for monitoring crop growth and estimating crop yield.Recently,deep-learning-based object detection methods have been used for this purpose,where plant counts are estimated from the number of bounding boxes detected.However,these methods suffer from 2 issues:(a)The scales of maize tassels vary because of image capture from varying distances and crop growth stage;and(b)tassel areas tend to be affected by occlusions or complex backgrounds,making the detection inefficient.In this paper,we propose a multiscale lite attention enhancement network(MLAENet)that uses only point-level annotations(i.e.,objects labeled with points)to count maize tassels in the wild.Specifically,the proposed method includes a new multicolumn lite feature extraction module that generates a scale-dependent density map by exploiting multiple dilated convolutions with different rates,capturing rich contextual information at different scales more effectively.In addition,a multifeature enhancement module that integrates an attention strategy is proposed to enable the model to distinguish between tassel areas and their complex backgrounds.Finally,a new up-sampling module,UP-Block,is designed to improve the quality of the estimated density map by automatically suppressing the gridding effect during the up-sampling process.Extensive experiments on 2 publicly available tassel-counting datasets,maize tassels counting and maize tassels counting from unmanned aerial vehicle,demonstrate that the proposed MLAENet achieves marked advantages in counting accuracy and inference speed compared to state-of-the-art methods.The model is publicly available at.

BACKGROUND:In clinical practice,some patients might not be able or unwilling to provide a thorough history of medication and poison exposure.The aim of this study was to use toxicological analysis to examine the clinical characteristics of patients with acute poisoning whose exposure history was uncertain from a toxicological analysis perspective.METHODS:This was a retrospective and descriptive study from an institute of poisoning.Patient registration information and test reports spanning the period from April 1,2020 to March 31,2022,were obtained.Patients with uncertain exposure histories and who underwent toxicological analysis were included.Clinical manifestations and categories of toxics were analyzed.RESULTS:Among the 195 patients with positive toxicological analysis results,the main causes of uncertain exposure history was disturbance of consciousness(62.6%),unawareness(23.6%)and unwillingness or lack of cooperation(13.8%).The predominant clinical manifestations were disturbed consciousness(62.6%),followed by vomiting and nausea(14.4%)and liver function abnormalities(8.7%).A comparison of clinical manifestations between patients with positive and negative(n=99)toxicological analyses results revealed significantly different proportions of disturbances in consciousness(63%vs.21%),dizziness(1.5%vs.5.1%),multi-organ failure(1.5%vs.7.1%),and local pain(0 vs 4%).The main categories of substances involved were psychiatric medications(23.1%),sedatives(20.5%),insecticides(13.8%),and herbicides(12.8%).CONCLUSION:The clinical manifestations of acute poisoning in patients with an uncertain exposure history are diverse and nonspecific,and toxicological analysis plays a pivotal role in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of such patients.
