Management of Mandibular Hypoplasia Using Distraction Osteogenesis Technique

By using distraction osteogenesis technique, 3 cases of mandibular hypoplasia were treat ed by home made and German made jaw distractors: including one patient suffered from bilateral ankylosis of temporo mandibular joint and 2 patients from deficiency of mandible. The duration of distraction osteogenesis was one month. The bone distractor was removed 3 months after operation. Satisfactory results were obtained in all 3 cases. Distraction osteogenesis can successfully be used in mandibular functional reconstruction and has much more advantages than traditional technique.

Impact of Dentinal Tubule Orientation on Dentin Bond Strength

This study aimed to determine the impact of dentinal tubule orientation on dentin bond strength to provide a reference for clinical cavity preparation in resin-bonded restoration. Patients aged 13-16 years were selected, including 18 males and 21 females. Forty-eight human maxillary first premolars from orthodontic extractions were chosen to prepare the test models with the dentinal tubule orientations perpendicular and parallel to the bonding substrate. The test models in the vertical and parallel groups were divided into three groups： total-etching with 20% phosphoric acid, total-etching with 35% phosphoric acid and self-etching, with the dentinal tubule surfaces bonded with composite resin blocks in each group. After the standard test models of dentinal tubule-composite resin blocks were placed in distilled water and stored at 37℃ for 24 h, shearing tests were performed using a universal material testing machine at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. The bond strength values in the vertical group were 19.33＋1.59 MPa for the 20% phosphoric acid group, 21.39±2.34 MPa for the 35% phosphoric acid group, and 16.88±1.54 MPa for the self-etching group. The bond strength values in the parallel group were 24.53±1.99 MPa for the 20% phosphoric acid group, 25.16＋2.88 MPa for the 35% phosphoric acid group, and 20.83±1.99 for the self-etching group. After using same total-etching adhesive, the shear bond strength of the parallel group was higher than that of the vertical group, and the difference was statistically significant （P〈0.05）. Regardless of vertical group or parallel group, the difference in the bond strength value between the total-etching groups and the self-etching group was statistically significant （P〈0.05）. It was concluded that the dentin bonding substrate which was parallel to the direction of the dentin tubule achieved an improved bond strength; the total-etching adhesives achieved higher bond strengths in dentin bond than the self-etching adhesives.

Main observation and conclusion Polymer-supramolecular double-network hydrogels(PS-DN hydrogels)often show much improved recovery rates than conventional double-network hydrogels because of the fast self-assembling properties,making them attractive candidates for tissue engineering and flexible ***,as the supramolecular network is dynamic and susceptible to break under low strains,the overall mechanical properties of PS-DN hydrogels are still ***,we report the mechanical properties for PS-DN hydrogels can be significantly improved by tuning the supramolecular network structures.A single amino acid change of the self-assembling peptide can tune the assembled structures from nanofiber to *** a microscopic structural change can greatly increase the Young's modulus(107.4 kPa),fracture stress(0.48 MPa),and toughness(0.38 MJ·m^(–3))of the PS-DN ***,the structural change also leads to slightly faster recovery rates(<1 s).We propose that such dramatically different mechanical properties can be understood by the impact of individual peptide rupture events on the overall network connectivity in the two *** study may provide new inspirations for combining high mechanical strength and fast recovery in double network hydrogels by tuning the supramolecular network structures.

Study on gene expression patterns and functional pathways of peripheral blood monocytes reveals potential molecular mechanism of surgical treatment for periodontitis

BACKGROUND Periodontitis is a chronic inflammation of periodontal supporting tissue caused by local factors. Periodontal surgery can change the gene expression of peripheral blood mononuclear cells. However, little is known about the potential mechanism of surgical treatment for periodontitis. AIM To explore the potential molecular mechanism of surgical treatment for periodontitis. METHODS First, based on the expression profiles of genes related to surgical treatment for periodontitis, a set of expression disorder modules related to surgical treatment for periodontitis were obtained by enrichment analysis. Subsequently, based on crosstalk analysis, we proved that there was a significant crosstalk relationship between module 3 and module 5. Finally, based on predictive analysis of multidimensional regulators, we identified a series of regulatory factors, such as endogenous genes, non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), and transcription factors, which have potential regulatory effects on periodontitis. RESULTS A total of 337 genes related to surgical treatment for periodontitis were obtained, and 3896 genes related to periodontitis were amplified. Eight expression modules of periodontitis were obtained, involving the aggregation of 2672 gene modules. These modules are mainly involved in G-protein coupled receptor signaling pathway, coupled to cyclic nucleotide second messenger, and adenylate cyclasemodulating G-protein coupled receptor signaling pathway. In addition, eight endogenous genes (including EGF, RPS27A, and GNB3) were screened by network connectivity analysis. Finally, based on this set of potential dysfunction modules, 94 transcription factors (including NFKB1, SP1, and STAT3) and 1198 ncRNAs (including MALAT1, CRNDE, and ANCR) were revealed. These core regulators are thought to be involved in the potential molecular mechanism of periodontitis after surgical treatment. Two Novel Metal Coordination Polymers:Anticancer Activity in Human Angioneoplasm Cells

Two new coordination polymers, namely {[Cu(CPTD)(HCOO)](H_2O)4}n(1, HCPTD= 4′-(4-Carboxyphenyl)-2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine) and {[Dy3(NTB)3(NMF)2(H2O)]n(NMF)3}n(2,H3NTB = 4,4′,4″-nitrilotribenzoic acid, NMF = N-methylformamide) have been successfully constructed under solvothermal conditions. The structures of the two complexes have been successfully determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In addition, in vitro antitumor activities of compounds 1 and 2 on three human angioneoplasm cells(MOLP-2, RPMI8226 and MM1 S)were further determined and the results show that the two compounds showed promising activity.
