Improving landscape connectivity through habitat restoration:application for Asian elephant conservation in Xishuangbanna Prefecture,China

Habitat restoration is an effective method for improving landscape connectivity,which can reduce habitat *** landscape connectivity could promote connections between habitat,which is extremely essential to preserve gene flow and population *** study proposes a methodological framework to analyze landscape connectivity for Asian elephant habitat conservation,aiming to provide practical options for reducing habitat fragmentation and improving habitat *** approach involved combining a species distribution model using MaxEnt and landscape functional connectivity models using graph theory to assess the impact on connectivity improvement via farmland/plantation restoration as *** results showed that:(1)there were 119 suitable habitat patches of Asian elephant covering a total area of 1952.41 km^(2).(2)The connectivity between habitats improved significantly after vegetation restoration and the gain first decreased and then increased with the increase of dispersal distance.(3)The first few new habitat patches that were identified played an important role in improving connectivity,and the variation rate of connectivity gradually leveled off as the number of new habitats increased.(4)Prioritization of the 25 best new habitat patches increased connectivity from 0.54%to 5.59%as the dispersal distance increased and mainly was located between two Asian elephant distribution regions and two *** of new habitat patches was effective for improving or restoring *** findings can be used as guidance for improving the studied fragmented Asian elephant habitats,and they can also be used as a reference for the habitat restoration of other endangered species heavily affected by habitat fragmentation.

Impact of the green credit policy on external financing,economic growth and energy consumption of the manufacturing industry

Research on the transmission mechanism of low-carbon policies:an empirical study of agricultural companies

Companies bear primary responsibility for low-carbon economy,thus relevant low-carbon policies should be set properly to guide them and to ensure their low-carbon production *** solve the problems generated during low-carbon development,this article verifies the existence of the transmission path and *** verification includes mediating variables of companies'willingness and capacity to conduct low-carbon production,a transmission mechanism through incentive path and resources protection,and questionnaire data of agricultural *** show that the lowcarbon policies have obvious positive effects on willingness of corporation;the basic service-oriented policy has a significantly promoting effect on low-carbon production capacity;and low-carbon production performance is positively influenced by willingness as well as *** at a better transmission path,some corresponding recommendations have been put forward in the end.

Evaluating the accuracy of two satellite-based Quantitative Precipitation Estimation products and their application for meteorological drought monitoring over the Lake Victoria Basin,East Africa

This study evaluates the high-resolution satellite estimated long-term precipitation data for monitor-ing the drought condition over the Lake Victoria Basin(LVB)from 1984 to *** Precipitation Indices(SPI)were used to capture the short,medium and long-term meteorological drought conditions at multiple time scales(i.e.3,6,and 12).For these,the following two primaries Quantitative Precipitation Estimation(QPEs)products were employed-1)Climate Hazards group Infra-Red Precipitation with Station(CHIRPS),and 2)the Precipitation Estimation from Remotely Sensed Information using Artificial Neural Network-Climate Data Record(PERSIANN-CDR).This dataset was compared based on the observation data obtained from the Climate Research Unit(CRU)over the nine selected regions surrounding lake *** performance of these two QPEs products was evaluated using seven statistical *** findings of this study indicate that the CHIRPS and PERSIANN-CDR datasets could capture the behavior of drought magnitude based on the time scale of SPI-3,SPI-6,*** results indicate that 2012 and 2017 are significant severe drought years in the recent decade over ***,the CHIRPS datasets provide good agreement(Correlation Coefficient(CC)=0.65)with observation,whereas PERSIANN-CDR present satisfactory results(CC=0.54).In addition,Hurst(H)exponent was used to predict the future drought trend and found that the CHIRPS performed well to predict the degree of drought ***,this study considers the CHIRPS product for near-real-time drought monitoring and PERSIANN-CDR for historical drought ***,the outcome from the H values is greater than 0.5,which indicates the future drought trend would be decreased over *** results are useful for developing the strategies for drought hazards and water resource management in LVB.

The presence of organic matter in lakes profoundly impacts drinking water supplies,yet treatment processes involving coagulants and disinfectants can yield carcinogenic disinfection *** assessments of organic matter,such as chemical oxygen demand(COD_(Mn))and biochemical oxygen demand(BOD_(5)),are often ***,optical measurements of dissolved organic matter(DOM)offer a rapid and reliable means of obtaining organic matter composition *** we employed DOM optical measurements in conjunction with parallel factor analysis to scrutinize COD_(Mn)and BOD_(5)*** was performed using an independent dataset encompassing six lakes on the Yungui Plateau from 2014 to 2016(n=256).Leveraging multiple linear regressions(MLRs)applied to DOM absorbance at 254 nm(a254)and fluorescence components C1-C5,we successfully traced COD_(Mn)and BOD_(5)variations across the entire plateau(68 lakes,n=271,R^(2)>0.8,P0.9)in mesotrophic lakes compared to oligotrophic and eutrophic *** study underscores the utility of MLR-based DOM indices for inferring COD_(Mn)and BOD_(5)variability in plateau lakes and highlights the potential of integrating in situ and remote sensing platforms for water pollution early warning.

Induction of P450 genes in Nilaparvata lugens and Sogatella furcifera by two neonicotinoid insecticides

Nilaparvata lugens and Sogatella furcifera are two primary planthoppers on rice throughout Asian countries and areas. Neonicotinoid insecticides, such as imidaclo- prid （IMI）, have been extensively used to control rice planthoppers and IMI resistance consequently occurred with an important mechanism from the over-expression of P450 genes. The induction of P450 genes by IMI may increase the ability to metabolize this insecticide in planthoppers and increase the resistance risk. In this study, the induction of P450 genes was compared in S. furcifera treated with IM] and nitromethyleneimidazole （NMI）, in two planthopper species by IMI lethal dose that kills 85% of the population （LD85）, and in N. lugens among three IMI doses （LD15, LD50 and LD85）. When IMI and NMI at the LD85 dose were applied to S. furcifera, the expression changes in most P450 genes were similar, including the up-regulation of nine genes and down-regulation of three genes. In terms of the expression changes in 12 homologous P450 genes between N. lugens and S. furcifera treated with IMI at the LD85 dose, 10 genes had very similar patterns, such as up-regulation in seven genes, down-regulation in one gene and no significant changes in two genes. When three different IMI doses were applied to N. lugens, the changes in P450 gene expression were much different, such as up-regulation in four genes at all doses and dose-dependent regulation of the other nine genes. For example, CYP6AY1 could be induced by all IMI doses, while CYP6ER1 was only up-regulated by the LDs0 dose, although both genes were reported important in IMI resistance. In conclusion, P450 genes in two planthopper species showed similar regulation patterns in responding to IMI, and the two neonicotinoid insecticides had similar effects on P450 gene expression, although the regulation was often dose-dependent.

Firm-Level TFP Growth in the Chinese Automobile Industry

China has been the world’s largest automobile producer since 2009,but it still lags behind other countries in terms of productivity. Based on theNational Bureau of Statistics of China (NBSC) firm-level data and the improvedapproach proposed by Ackerberg et al. (2015), this paper investigates thecontribution of total factor productivity (TFP) growth to the Chinese automobileindustry and evaluates the impact of firm entry and exit on TFP growth. Theempirical results show that the TFP of the Chinese automobile industry grows at10.7% per year. Joint venture and foreign-owned firms have a significantly higherTFP growth rate than others. Large-scale firms have a higher TFP growth rate thando small-scale firms, but the latter have caught up after 2004. Moreover, the entryof new firms and exit of old firms significantly improve the aggregate TFP growthrate.

By means of the dynamic regression model, this paper analyzes the relationships among economic growth, urbanization and changes of cultivated land in China, finds that the ratio of cultivated land occupied by economic growth is decreasing with social and economic growth. And, based on that, some policy suggestions on how to promote the sustainable use of cultivated land in China are put forward.
