Pollen tube guidance is controlled by multiple complex interactions with the female tissues. Here, we show that pollen tubes of Torenia fournieri are regulated by a stylar tissue in a length-dependent manner to receive and respond to attractant LURE peptides secreted from synergid cells. We developed an immunostaining method to visualize LURE peptides bound at the plasma membrane of the tip region of the pollen tube. Using this method, we found that LURE peptides bound specifically to pollen tubes growing through a cut style. The peptides also bound to pollen tubes growing through a shorter style, which were not competent to respond to these peptides. These observations suggested a possibility that acquisition of the LURE peptide reception ability and acquisition of full competency are separable pro- cesses. RNA-Seq suggested that the transcription profile of pollen tubes was affected by both the length of the style and the cultivation period, consistently with physiological changes in binding activity and LURE response ability. The data- base generated from de novo RNA-Seq of Torenia pollen tubes was shown to be useful to identify pollen tube proteins by mass spectrometry. Our studies provide insight and an effective platform for protein identification to understand pollen tube guidance.

An Evaluation of Value-Oriented Review for Software Requirements Specification

A software requirements specification(SRS)is a detailed description of a software system to be *** paper proposes and evaluates a lightweight review approach called value-oriented review(VOR)to detect defects in *** approach comprises setting core values based on SRS and detecting the defects disturbing the core *** evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach,we conducted a controlled experiment to investigate whether reviewers could identify and record the core values based on SRS and find defects disturbing the core *** of the evaluation with 56 software engineers showed that 91%of the reviewers identified appropriate core values and 82%of the reviewers detected defects based on the identified core ***,the average number of defects detected using the proposed approach was slightly smaller than that detected using perspective-based reading(PBR);however,PBR requires defining review scenarios before attempting to detect any *** results also demonstrated that the proposed approach helped reviewers detect the omission defects,which are more difficult to detect from SRS than defects because of ambiguity or incorrect requirements.

Effect of sphygmomanometer cuff pressure on the differentiation of veins from arteries on ultrasound imaging:an observational cross-sectional study

Effects of oxidation pretreatment temperature on Kovar used as CO_2 reforming catalyst

The effect of oxidation pretreatment temperature(500 ~ 1 000 ℃) on the catalytic activity of Kovar applied on hydrocarbon CO2reforming was examined. Catalytic performance evaluation using tetradecane at 800 ℃ with 70 μmol/s CO2revealed 700 and 1 000 ℃ as the best pre-oxidation temperature in producing CO and H2,respectively. XRD and SEM-EDX analyses showed that a separate metal oxide layer composed of iron oxide(Fe2O3and F3O4),nickel,cobalt,and possibly their respective oxides started to form when oxidation was conducted at 700 ℃ or *** presence of iron enhanced the stability of nickel in the structure while the compact structure of Fe3O4resulted into the formation of a thick and rigid metal oxide layer on the surface of the Kovar tube. The strong physical bond between the metal oxide layer and Kovar tube provided the catalyst good mechanical strength and consequently good catalytic activity.

Spatial distributions of the leafminer Ophiomyia maura （Diptera： Agromyzidae） in host plant Aster ageratoides

The seasonal occurrence and among-plant and within-plant spatial distribution of the multivoltine leafminer Ophiomyia maura Meigen （Diptera： Agromyzidae） on the herbaceous plant Aster ageratoides Turcz. subsp, ovatus （Asteraceae） were investigated in the field. O. maura has at least four generations a year and mines per leaf fluctuate with a mean of 0.007 throughout the occurrence period. Seasonal occurrence is associated with abundance of new host leaves, suggesting O. maura females prefer to oviposit in newly emerged leaves. The among-plant distribution of O. maura is described by a Poisson distribution early in the season but tends to be weakly clumped later. The within-plant vertical distribution of larval mines increased from middle to upper leaves during plant development, because mined leaves in the middle position early in the season move downward with the emergence of new leaves, shifting mined leaves from the position where O. maura oviposits eggs. Later in the season, mined leaves remain where they are deposited because few new leaves emerge. The spatial distribution of O. maura, resource utilization patterns, and host plant characteristics are discussed.

Analysis of delay variability at isolated signalized intersections

On urban arterials,travel time variability is largely dependent on the variability in the delays vehicles experience at signalized *** interpretation of delay evolvement at intersections will give a comprehensive insight into arterial travel time variability and provide more possibilities for travel time ***,an analytical model is proposed to study delay variability at isolated,fixed-time controlled *** cumulative curves are utilized to derive average delay(per cycle) formulas by assuming a deterministic overflow ***,an analogy with the Markov chain process is made to clarify the mechanism of stochastic delays and overflow queues at signalized *** was found that,in undersaturated cases,the shape of the delay distribution changes very little over time,whereas for saturated and oversaturated cases the delay distribution is time-dependent and becomes flatter with an increasing number of *** analysis of arrival distributions,e.g.,Poisson and binomial,produces the conclusion that the variability of arrivals has a significant effect on delay estimates in both undersaturated and oversaturated conditions.A larger variance of arrival flow results in a larger variance of delay *** of these analyses can help road authorities to gain insights into arterial travel time variability.

Cholesteryl esters(CEs) have been increasingly implicated in neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease(AD).Alois Alzheimer noted three prominent neuropathologic features in his original analysis of the AD brain:senile plaques,neurofibrillary tangles,and lipid granule *** plaques,which are aggregates of amyloid-beta(Aβ),and neurofibrillary tangles,which are aggregates of phosphorylated tau,have been regarded as more consistent characteristics of the AD brain compared with lipid granule accumulation and thus have been studied more intensively(Foley,2010).

Implications of excess ^(210)Pb and ^(137)Cs in sediment cores from Mikawa Bay, Japan

Four sediment cores were collected from Mikawa Bay, Japan, and excess ^210pb and ^137Cs were measured by gamma spectrometry. Sedimentation rates for the four cores were determined by ^210Pb method. The sedimentation rate range is 0.10-0.70 g/（cm^***）. The bio-mixing depth for each core is less than 7.0 cm, and was determined by the excess 210^pb profiles as well. Therefore, the bioturbation is slight. The 210^pb-derived dates coincided with the results from ^137Cs geochronology. Acceleration in sedimentation rate due to environmental alteration has been found in cores A2.5 and 05AS8, representing two depocenters due to their topography. Evidence of the Tokal Flood in 2000 was found in core 05AS8 according to the profiles of both radioisotopes and trace metals.

Potential significance of CX3CR1 dynamics in stress resilience against neuronal disorders

Recent findings have implicated inflammatory responses in the central nervous system in a variety of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases,and the understanding and control of immunological responses could be a major factor of future therapeutic strategies for neurological ***,derived from myelogenous cells,respond to a number of stimuli and make immune responses,resulting in a prominent role as cells that act on inflammation in the central nervous ***(FKN or CX3CL1)signaling is an important factor that influences the inflammatory response of *** receptor for FKN,CX3CR1,is usually expressed in microglia in the brain,and therefore the inflammatory response of microglia is modified by ***,FKN often suppresses inflammatory responses in microglia and activation of its receptor may be effective in the treatment of inflammatory neurological ***,it has also been suggested that inflammatory responses facilitated by FKN signaling aggravate neurological ***,further studies are still required to resolve the conflicting interpretation of the protective or deleterious contribution of microglial FKN *** notably,regulation of FKN signaling has recently been shown to be beneficial in the treatment of human diseases,although not neurological *** addition,a CX3CR1 inhibitor has been developed and successfully tested in animal models,and it is expected to be in human clinical trials in the *** this review,I describe the potential therapeutic consideration of microglial CX3CR1 dynamics through altered FKN signaling.
