Bac.ground: In c.te d’Ivoire so far, the c.rc.lating haplotypes have been inferred on the phenotypic.profiling of Sc. patients. The impac. of the c.rc.lating haplotypes on the use of Hydroxyurea has not been assessed yet. Therefore the objec.ive of this study is to identify in Abidjan the HbS haplotypes that modulate HU treatment responses. Methods: In a c.oss-sec.ional desc.iptive and analytic.l study, c.ildren aged 5 to 15 years with Sc., and c.rrying the hemoglobin phenotypes SSFA2 and SFA2, were rec.uited into a HU treatment c.hort. Various parameters on the haplotypes and the outc.mes of the treatment were analyzed. Results: Thirty nine c.ildren with Sc. were inc.uded. The phenotypic.profile of the c.hort was 86.6% of SSFA2 and 15.4% of SFA2. Three haplotypes were found, the Benin haplotype, the Senegal haplotype, and an atypic.l one. The partic.pants belonged to three genotypes, Benin/atypic.l (64.1%), Benin/Senegal (33.3%) and Senegal/Senegal (2.6%). Overall, HU treatment was suc.essful in all haplotypes with 12 out of 39 patients failing treatment after 12 months in the Benin haplotype group. The assoc.ation between HU treatment suc.ess and the Benin haplotype was found in terms.of the dec.ease in the number of white blood c.lls and the students missing c.ass. c.nc.usion: The study revealed that inferring haplotype based on the phenotypic.profile c.uld be inac.urate. The proportion of atypic.l haplotype that were not previously desc.ibed in c.te d’Ivoire was high. All the haplotypes seemed to be assoc.ated with HU treatment suc.ess but some patients with Benin haplotype did not respond well.

The aim of this study is to produc. large quantities of yam tubers in the field from seed tubers derived from vitroplants regenerated from aerial stem c.ttings and farmers’ tuber seeds. Seed tubers from ten yam c.ltivars, inc.uding five from diosc.rea alata (c.a083, c.a053, c.a115, c.a150 and c.a266) and five from diosc.rea c.yenensis-rotundata (c.r015, c.r027, c.r150, c.r206 and c.r148) with distinc. agro-morphologic.l c.arac.eristic., were used as material. A c.mpletely randomized bloc. design with 3 replic.tions was used. In eac. bloc., all c.ltivars and seed types were represented. When put into c.ltivation, the tubers produc.d by the vitroplants all germinated and gave 100% healthy plants, c.mpared with 86% to 100% healthy plants for the seed tubers produc.d by the farmers. Yields per hec.are ranged from 10 to 25 tonnes for seed tubers produc.d by in vitro plants, and from 4 to 9 tons for seed tubers produc.d by farmers. Seed tubers from vitroplants c.n therefore be rec.mmended to farmers as a solution to the problem of seed tuber unavailability.

Selenium is a trac. element that c.n have both benefic.al and harmful effec.s on aquatic.life. The Aby Lagoon is a c.astal environment in c.te d’Ivoire that rec.ives selenium inputs from various natural and anthropogenic.sourc.s. The aim of this study was to assess the levels of selenium in the sediments of the Aby Lagoon and its tributaries, the Tanoe River and the Tendo Lagoon, and to examine the spatial and seasonal variations of selenium c.nc.ntrations. Sediment samples were c.llec.ed from different sites and seasons, and selenium c.nc.ntrations were measured by atomic.fluoresc.nc. spec.rometry. The results showed that the average c.nc.ntration of selenium in the sediments of the Aby Lagoon was 0.82 mg/kg, indic.ting moderate c.ntamination. The c.nc.ntration of selenium varied between sites and seasons, with higher values in the c.annel of the Tendo Lagoon and during the dry season. The study highlighted the c.mplexity of selenium dynamic. in aquatic.ec.systems. and the need to take into ac.ount seasonal and spatial variability as well as interac.ions between environmental fac.ors. The study also suggested potential ec.toxic.logic.l risks for some sensitive organisms.in c.rtain areas of the lagoon. This study c.ntributes to the knowledge of the dynamic. of selenium in lagoon ec.systems.and to the assessment of the environmental risks assoc.ated with its presenc..

Antibiotic.resistanc. has bec.me a major threat to human health worldwide. Environment, partic.larly the water environment, has long been overlooked as a player in the antibiotic.resistanc. c.c.e, although its role remains unc.ear. These c.n provide an ideal setting for the ac.uisition and dissemination of antibiotic.resistanc., as they are frequently affec.ed by anthropogenic.ac.ivities. The objec.ive of this study was to establish a diffusion map of resistanc. integrons used as genetic.markers of resistanc. assoc.ated with antibiotic.resistanc. c.nferring genes (ARGs). Total dNA extrac.s from non-c.ltivable bac.erial c.mmunities were used for the analyses. These c.mmunities were obtained from wastewater samples from 14 sites upstream and downstream of drainage c.annels or effluents in the c.ties of Abidjan, Bouaké, and Yamoussoukro. The results obtained c.rrespond to the number of positives among the treated samples (n = 39). Among the genetic.markers of dissemination, c.ass 1 integrons were the most evident in 94.8% of samples in Abidjan (93.3%), Bouaké (100%) and Yamoussoukro (91.6%). c.ass 2 integrons and c.ass 3 integrons were found respec.ively in 41% and 51% of all samples. Genes c.ding for β-lac.amases and blaTEM was identified in almost all samples at a rate of 97.4%. A c.-presenc. of the three genes blaTEM, blaSHV and blac.X-M is also remarkable in the sites of the c.ty of Yamoussoukro. Among the genes c.ding for c.rbapenemases, only blaKPc.17.94%, blaNdM 30.76% and blaOXA48 38.46% were detec.ed in the samples.

The simulation by the Monte c.rlo method exec.ted by the software PyPENELOPE proved effec.ive to spec.fy the partic.e propagation c.arac.eristic. by c.lc.lating the absorption frac.ions, bac.sc.ttering and transmission of elec.rons and sec.ndary photons under the inc.denc. of 0.5 to 20 KeV range of primary elec.rons. More than 99.9% of the primary elec.rons were transmitted in the 125 nm thic. MgO/TiO2 material at 20 KeV. This oc.urred bec.use several interac.ions took plac. in the transmitted primary irradiation suc. as c.arac.eristic. fluoresc.nc., and brems.trahlung produc.d when of the oc.upation of the KL3, KL2, KM3, and KM2 shell and sub-shell of titanium and magnesium whic. are the elements with a high atomic.number in the material. The transmission partic.e c.arac.eristic.of this material is therefore an indic.tor c.pable of improving the elec.ric.l performanc. and properties of the sensor.

The c.rrent study is the first step in a systematic.experimental researc. on the erosion behaviour of sand-mud mixtures. It c.nc.rns the effec. of a varying sand c.ntent and c.ay mineralogy on the porosity, struc.ure, strength and permeability of artific.ally generated sediment mixtures. The permeability of a sediment mixture is an espec.ally signific.nt parameter c.nc.rning the type of erosion that oc.urs. It determines if the erosion of the bed is either a drained or an undrained proc.ss, respec.ively indic.ting surfac. erosion or mass erosion. Measurements on various mixtures c.nc.rning the c.nsolidation c.effic.ent and the permeability have been exec.ted. Results show a distinc. transition of behaviour between a sand-silt dominated network struc.ure and a c.ay-water matrix. The oc.urrenc. of these two types of struc.ures appears to depend on the porosity of the volume frac.ion of sand related to silt, whic. is, therefore, an important parameter c.nc.rning the type of erosion. Finally, the study provides a valuable data set that c.n be used as a referenc. for following stages of this researc. on the erosion behaviour of natural c.hesive sediments.

Introduc.ion The distribution of c.ngenital heart disease (c.d) in sub-Saharan Afric. is highly imprec.se and varies from one region to another due to the inequality of diagnostic.fac.lities. The aim of this study was to determine the in-hospital prevalenc. of c.ngenital heart disease in c.ildren at the Mother-c.ild hospital of Bingerville (HME) by spec.fying the diagnostic. therapeutic.and evolutionary aspec.s. Materials and methods We c.nduc.ed a retrospec.ive, desc.iptive, c.oss-sec.ional study at HME of Bingerville from January 2021 to dec.mber 2022. All newborns with c.ngenital heart disease c.nfirmed by ec.oc.rdiography were inc.uded in the study. Results Of 656 admissions to the neonatology department over the study period, c.ngenital heart disease ac.ounted for 14.9% (98/656) of c.ses. In our series, 76.7% were diagnosed before the 1st week of life, with a mean c.ronologic.l age of 5.18 days and extremes of 0 and 46 days. There were as many male patients (50%) as female (50%), i.e. a sex ratio of 1. These newborns were premature in 60.2% of c.ses, with a mean and median gestational age of 34 weeks’ amenorrhea. Most were left-right shunts (90.8%). Persistent duc.us arteriosus (PdA) (48.9%) predominated, followed by atrial septal defec. (38.7%), ventric.lar septal defec. (13.3%), c.mmon trunk artery (c.A) (3.1%) and open septal pulmonary atresia (OSPA) (1%) as the primary c.anogenic.heart disease. Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) (50%) was primary in 38.8% and sec.ndary (61.2%). The mortality rate was 30.6%, and all c.A patients died (100%), with a signific.nt statistic.l relationship (p = 0.027). Progression under treatment was marked by c.inic.l stabilization (68/98) in 69.4% of c.ses. c.nc.usion: c.ngenital heart disease is relatively c.mmon at the Bingerville HME. Ac.ess to ec.oc.rdiography should be fac.litated in neonatology departments for rapid diagnosis and optimal management of c.ngenital heart disease in newborns.

Hydrogeoc.emic.l c.arac.erization of Groundwater from Fissured Aquifers in the Angovia Mine Operating Permit Area (c.ntral-West c.oc.rc.te d’Ivoire)

The main objec.ive of this study is to determine the hydrogeoc.emic.l spec.fic.ties of the groundwater of the Angovia mine operating permit, loc.ted in the Yaouré mountains in the c.nter-west of c.te d’Ivoire. To do so, desc.iptive and multivariate statistic.l analysis methods with the SOM (Self Organizing Maps) algorithm were applied to the physic.c.emic.l parameters of 17 boreholes using the c.lc.te (ISc. and dolomite (ISd) saturation indic.s. The results obtained have shown that the groundwater in the Angovia mine operating permit area has an average temperature of 27.52°c.(long rainy season) and 27.87°c.(long dry season) and has an average ph of 7.09 ± 0.35 during the main rainy season and 7.32 ± 0.35 during the main dry season. They are mineralized with an average elec.ric.l c.nduc.ivity of 505.98 ± 302.85 μS/c. during the long rainy season and with 450.33 ± 233.74 μS/c. as average during the long dry season. The main phenomena at the origin of groundwater mineralization are water residenc. time, oxidation-reduc.ion and surfac. inflow. The study of the relative age of the water shows that the groundwater in the Angovia mine operating permit area is mainly undersaturated with respec. to c.lc.te and dolomite. They are therefore very old in the aquifer with a slow c.rc.lation speed during the long rainy season and the long dry season.
