Glaciers in the Pamir region are experiencing rapid melting and receding due to climate change,which has a significant implication for the Amu Darya river ***,surging glaciers,which undergo unpredictable advances,are potentially leading to the obstruction of high-altitude river channels and also glacial lake outburst *** of-703.5±30.0 *** is a substantial increase in the number(from 19 to 75)and area(from 4889.7±0.6 m2 to 15345.5±0.6 m2)of RGS lakes along with supra-glacier ponds based on a comparison of ArcGIS base map in 2011 and high-resolution UAV data in *** M glacier,number of lakes increased from 4 to 22 but the lake area declined from 10715.2±0.6 to 365.6±0.6 *** was noted that the largest lake in 2011 with an area of 10406.4±0.6 m2 at the southeastern portion of the glacier was not observed in 2023 due to *** the glaciers have substantially impacted the river flow(Abdukahor river)by obstructing a significant proportion of river channel in recent years and might cause outburst *** findings enhance the understanding of glacier dynamics and their impacts on the surrounding areas,emphasizing the urgent need for continued monitoring and appropriate management strategies,with a specific focus on surging glaciers and the associated risks.

Manganese oxides(MNO_(x)),as low-toxicity and high-abundance catalysts,have been demonstrated to hold great promise for application in advanced oxidation processes(AOPs).However,further application of this material is restricted due to its unsatisfactory oxidant activation ***,recently remarkable research on deep activation mechanisms and modification of MNO_(x)have been undertaken to improve its ***,modification enhancement mechanisms of MNO_(x)to efficiently degrade various organic contaminants were discussed and highlighted,including metal doping,coupling with other metal oxides,composite with carbonaceous material,and compounding with other *** activation mechanisms of different MNO_(x)and derivative-modified material(such as doped MNO_(x),metal oxide-MNO_(x)hybrids,and MNO_(x)-carbonaceous material hybrids)were summarized in great details,which was specifically categorized into both radical and non-radical *** effects of pH,inorganic ions,and natural organic matter on degradation reactions are also ***,future research directions and perspectives are presented to provide a clear interpretation on the MNO_(x)initiated AOPs.

Quantifying Contribution of Recycled Moisture to Precipitation in Temperate Glacier Region,Southeastern Tibetan Plateau,China

Recycled moisture is an important indicator of the renewal capacity of regional water *** to the existence of Yulong Snow mountain,Lijiang in Yunnan Province,southeast of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau,China,is the closest ocean glacier area to the equator in *** precipitation samples were collected from 2017 to 2018 in Lijiang to quantify the effect of sub-cloud evaporation and recycled moisture on precipitation combined with the d-excess model during monsoon and non-monsoon *** results indicated that the d-excess values of precipitation fluctuated between–35.6‰and 16.0‰,with an arithmetic mean of 3.5‰.The local meteoric water line(LMWL)wasδD=7.91δ^(18)O+2.50,with a slope slightly lower than the global meteoric water line(GMWL).Subcloud evaporation was higher during the non-monsoon season than during the monsoon *** tended to peak in March and was primarily influenced by the relative *** source of the water vapour affected the proportion of recycled *** to the results of the Hybrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory(HYSPLIT)model,the main sources of water vapour in Lijiang area during the monsoon period were the southwest and southeast *** the non-monsoon period,water vapour was transported by a southwesterly *** recycled moisture in Lijiang area between March and October 2017 was 10.62%.Large variations were observed between the monsoon and non-monsoon seasons,with values of 5.48%and 25.65%,*** differences were primarily attributed to variations in the advection of water *** recycled moisture has played a supplementary role in the precipitation of Lijiang area.

Understanding the spatial heterogeneity of debris-flow-prone areas holds significant implications for regional risk management, particularly in seismically active regions with geological faults. Despite the significance of this knowledge, a comprehensive quantification of the influence of regional topographical and geological factors on the spatial heterogeneity of debris-flow-prone areas has been lacking. This study selected the Hengduan mountains, an earthquake-prone region characterized by diverse surface conditions and complex landforms, as a representative study area. An improved units zoning and objective factors identification methodology was employed in earthquake and fault analysis to assess the impact of seismic activity and geological factors on spatial heterogeneity of debrisflow prone areas. Results showed that the application of GIS technology with hydrodynamic intensity and geographical units analysis can effectively analyze debris-flow prone areas. Meanwhile, earthquake and fault zones obviously increase the density of debrisflow prone catchments and make them unevenly distributed. The number of debris-flow prone areas shows a nonlinear variation with the gradual increase of geomorphic factor value. Specifically, the area with 1000 m-2500 m elevation difference, 25°-30° average slope, and 0.13-0.15 land use index is the most favorable conditions for debris-flow occurrence;The average annual rainfall from 600 to 1150 mm and landslides gradient from 16° to 35° are the main causal factors to trigger debris flow. Our study sheds light on the quantification of spatial heterogeneity in debris flow-prone areas in earthquake-prone regions, which can offer crucial support for post-debris flow risk management strategies.

High mountain Asia(HMA)shows a remarkable warming tendency and divergent trend of regional precipitation with enhanced meteorological *** rapid thawing of the HMA cryosphere may alter the magnitude and frequency of nature *** reviewed the influence of climate change on various types of nature hazards in HMA region,including their phenomena,mechanisms and *** reveals that:1)the occurrences of extreme rainfall,heavy snowfall,and drifting snow hazards are escalating;accelerated ice and snow melting have advanced the onset and increased the magnitude of snowmelt floods;2)due to elevating trigger factors,such as glacier debuttressing and the rapid shift of thermal and hydrological regime of bedrock/snow/ice interface or subsurface,the mass flow hazards including bedrock landslide,snow avalanche,ice-rock avalanches or glacier detachment,and debris flow will become more severe;3)increased active-layer detachment and retrogressive thaw slumps slope failures,thaw settlement and thermokarst lake will damage many important engineering structures and infrastructure in permafrost region;4)multi-hazards cascading hazard in HMA,such as the glacial lake outburst flood(GLOF)and avalanche-induced mass flow may greatly enlarge the destructive power of the primary hazard by amplifying its volume,mobility,and impact force;and 5)enhanced slope instability and sediment supply in the highland areas could impose remote catastrophic impacts upon lowland regions,and threat hydropower security and future water *** future,ongoing thawing of HMA will profoundly weaken the multiple-phase material of bedrock,ice,water,and soil,and enhance activities of nature *** and cascading hazards of high magnitude will prevail in *** the glacier runoff overpasses the peak water,low flow or droughts in lowland areas downstream of glacierized mountain regions will became more frequent and *** escalating hazards in the HMA region requires tackling s

GraphFlow+:Exploiting Conversation Flow in Conversational Machine Comprehension with Graph Neural Networks

The conversation machine comprehension(MC)task aims to answer questions in the multi-turn conversation for a single ***,recent approaches don’t exploit information from historical conversations effectively,which results in some references and ellipsis in the current question cannot be *** addition,these methods do not consider the rich semantic relationships between words when reasoning about the passage *** this paper,we propose a novel model GraphFlow+,which constructs a context graph for each conversation turn and uses a unique recurrent graph neural network(GNN)to model the temporal dependencies between the context graphs of each ***,we exploit three different ways to construct text graphs,including the dynamic graph,static graph,and hybrid graph that combines the *** experiments on CoQA,QuAC and DoQA show that the GraphFlow+model can outperform the state-of-the-art approaches.

Karst regions of Southwest China become a hotspot for global greening through large-scale vegetation restoration in recent two ***,the unique,fragile geological setting of carbonate rocks affects the sustainability of vegetation ***,we summarize and evaluate the impacts of the rock and soil compositions of karst landscapes on the types and quality of vegetation *** introduce the concept of“soil mass”and establish its relationship with aboveground vegetation biomass across varying degrees of rocky *** mineral nutrients and soil mass constrain the potential of vegetation carbon sequestration in karst *** enhance the sustainability of vegetation restoration and carbon sequestration under karst geological constraints,we suggest to push ecological intensification of tree plantations and optimize the zoning and classification of rocky desertification treatment,and these restoration initiatives will foster vegetation restoration to serve as a pivotal pathway towards carbon neutrality.

Stable carbon isotope composition and intrinsic water use efficiency in plants along an altitudinal gradient on the eastern slope of Yulong Snow mountain, China

Background Stable carbon isotope composition(δ13Cp) can be used to estimate the changes in intrinsic water use efficiency（iWUE） in plants,which helps us to better understand plants' response strategies to climate *** study focused on the variations in δ13Cpand iWUE for the different life-form plants（i.e.,herbs,shrubs,and trees）along an altitudinal gradient（3300,3600,3900,4100,4300,and 4500 m） on the eastern slope of Yulong Snow mountain,southeastern margin of the Qinghai-Tibet *** response mechanisms of δ13Cpand iWUE for different life-form plants to altitude were thoroughly analyzed in this mountain *** The δ13Cpvalues of plants on the eastern slopes of Yulong Snow mountain ranged from-30.4‰to-26.55‰,with a mean of-28.02‰,indicating a dominance of *** δ13Cpand iWUE values varied among different life-form plants in the order of herbs> shrubs> trees,particularly in 3600,3900,and 4300 ***δ13Cpand iWUE values for herbs and shrubs increased with altitude and were mainly controlled by air *** two parameters for trees exhibited a trend of initial decrease followed by an increase with *** 3900 m,the δ13Cpand iWUE values decreased with altitude,influenced by soil ***,above 3900 m,the two parameters increased with altitude,mainly regulated by air *** addition,iWUE was positively correlated with leaf P content but negatively correlated with leaf N:P ratio,especially for herbs and trees,suggesting that P plays a key role in modulating iWUE in this *** The diffe rentiated responses of water availability for different life-form plants to a higher altitudinal gradient are regulated by air temperature,soil moisture,and leaf P content in the Yulong Snow *** results provide valuable insights into understanding the wate r-carbon relationships in high-altitude ecosystems.

Process-driven susceptibility assessment of glacial lake outburst debris flow in the Himalayas under climate change

Global warming is causing glaciers to retreat and glacial lakes to expand in the Himalayas,which amplifies the risk of glacial lake outburst debris flows(GLODFs)and poses a significant threat to downstream lives and ***,the complex interplay between GLODF occurrences and associated indicators,coupled with the lack of a comprehensive susceptibility indicator system that considers the entire GLODF process,presents a substantial challenge in assessing GLODF susceptibility in the *** study proposes a process-driven GLODF susceptibility assessment indicator system responding to climate change that considers the complete process of GLODF formation,incorporating relevant parameters about upstream,themselves,and downstream of glacial ***,to mitigate subjective factors associated with traditional evaluation methods,we developed three novel hybrid machine-learning models by integrating classic machine-learning algorithms with the whale optimization algorithm(WOA)to delineate the distribution of GLODF susceptibility in the *** the hybrid models effectively predicted the GLODFs occurrence,with the WOA-SVC model demonstrating the highest prediction *** 34%of the catchments exhibit high and very high susceptibility levels,primarily concentrated along the north and south sides of the Himalayan ridge,particularly in the eastern and central *** capturing the physical formation process of hazards,such as topographic potential(highest relative importance value of 40%),can precisely identify GLODF.A total of 128 catchments pose potential transboundary threats,with 24 classified as having a very high susceptibility level and 25 as having a high susceptibility ***,the border region between China and Nepal is a prominent hotspot for transboundary threats of *** findings can provide valuable clues for disaster prevention,mitigation,and cross-border coordination in the Himalayas.
