High mountain Asia(HMA),recognized as a third pole,needs regular and intense studies as it is susceptible to climate *** accurate and high-resolution Digital Elevation Model(DEM)for this region enables us to analyze it in a 3D environment and understand its intricate role as the Water Tower of *** science teams of NASA realized an 8-m DEM using satellite stereo imagery for HMA,termed HMA 8-m *** this research,we assessed the vertical accuracy of HMA 8-m DEM using reference elevations from ICESat-2 geolocated photons at three test sites of varied topography and land *** were made from statistical quantifiers and elevation *** the world’s highest mountain,mount Everest,and its surroundings,Root Mean Squared Error(RMSE)and Mean Absolute Error(MAE)resulted in 1.94 m and 1.66 m,respectively;however,a uniform positive bias observed in the elevation profiles indicates the seasonal snow cover change will dent the accurate estimation of the elevation in this sort of test *** second test site containing gentle slopes with forest patches has exhibited the Digital Surface Model(DSM)features with RMSE and MAE of 0.58 m and 0.52 m,*** third test site,situated in the Zanda County of the Qinghai-Tibet,is a relatively flat terrain bed,mostly bare earth with sudden river cuts,and has minimal errors with RMSE and MAE of 0.32 m and 0.29 m,respectively,and with a negligible ***,in one more test site,the feasibility of detecting the glacial lakes was tested,which resulted in exhibiting a flat surface over the surface of the lakes,indicating the potential of HMA 8-m DEM for deriving the hydrological *** results accrued in this investigation confirm that the HMA 8-m DEM has the best vertical accuracy and should be of high use for analyzing natural hazards and monitoring glacier surfaces.

Low back pain associated with degenerative disc diseases has been a major health concern that brings suffering to the patients physically and *** existing therapeutic strategies provide shortterm relief of symptoms rather than treatment of the underlying *** of an engineered tissue for disc regeneration is still in its infancy due to the limited autologous healthy disc cell source from the *** is also challenging to mimic the complexity of micro-architecture in the native disc tissue that determine their unique structural *** date,simple tissue models that mimic the annulus fibrosus(AF)micro-environment for understanding the potential of mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)in AF tissue engineering are still *** this study,the assembly of a coiled hydrogel microfiber has shown its capability to encapsulate MSCs and create an engineered tissue model that mimics the multiple lamellae of native *** this model,we investigated the potential of MSCs that were previously induced by ascorbic acid(AA).Compared to non-induced MSCs,AA-induced MSCs exhibited significant increase in AF-associated biomarkers during later development in the engineered AF tissue model and also encouraged collagen accumulation through the down-regulated catabolic gene MMP1 and upregulated anti-catabolic gene ***,AA-induced MSCs exhibited a Col2/Col1 ratio closer to that of a native AF *** results suggested that AA-induced MSCs could be a potential cell source for AF tissue engineering and this established tissue model may provide a simple tool for successful AF tissue engineering strategies in the future.

Male patients with lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS)and benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)are increasingly seen by family physicians worldwide due to ageing demographics.A systematic way to stratify patients who can be managed in the community and those who need to be referred to the urologist is thus very *** history taking,physical examination,targeted blood or urine tests,and knowing the red flags for referral are the mainstay of stratifying these *** selection is always key in clinical practice and in the setting of the family *** best patient to manage is one above 40 years of age,symptomatic with nocturia,slower stream and sensation of incomplete voiding,has a normal prostatespecific antigen level,no palpable bladder,and no haematuria or pyuria on the *** roles of α blockers,5-α reductase inhibitors,and antibiotics in a primary care setting to manage this condition are also discussed.

A literature review on immune monitoring in kidney transplantation produced dozens of research articles and a multitude of promising biomarkers,all in the quest for the much sought after-but perennially elusive-"holy grail" of kidney biomarkers able to unequivocally predict acute transplant rejection vs *** methodologies and study designs were many and *** the motivation for this editorial,which espouses the notion that in today's kidney transplantation milieu,the judicious use of disease classifiers tailored to specific patient immune risks may be more achievable and productive in the long run and confer a greater advantage for patient treatment than the pursuit of a single "omniscient" *** addition,we desire to direct attention toward greater scrutiny of biomarker publications and decisions to implement biomarkers in practice,standardization of methods in the development of biomarkers and consideration for adoption of "biomarker-driven" *** propose "biomarkerdriven" biopsies as an adjunctive to and/or alternative to random surveillance(protocol) biopsies or belated indication *** discovery of a single kidney transplantation biomarker would represent a major breakthrough in kidney transplantation practice,but until that occurs-if ever it does occur,other approaches offer substantial potential for unlocking prognostic,diagnostic and therapeutic *** conclude our editorial with suggestions and recommendations for productively incorporating current biomarkers into diagnostic algorithms and for testing future biomarkers of acute rejection in kidney transplantation.

Most clinicians dread seeing the patient presenting with a primary complaint of a burning pain on one or more oral mucosal surfaces. Unlike most other clinical conditions presenting in a dental office, burning mouth syndrome is poorly understood with few evidence based remedies. More recently, advances have been made towards clarifying the possible etiology of the disorder and testing the possible therapeutic modalities available. This article attempts to summarize the ＂state of the art＂ today.

Pancreatic lymphangiomas are very rare benign cystic lesions that pose a diagnostic dilemma due to their resemblance to other non-neoplastic and neoplastic pancreatic cystic *** such,pancreatic lymphangiomas are frequently diagnosed only after histological examination of the excised *** present 2 cases of pancreatic lymphangioma,determine its prevalence at our institution and perform a detailed review of published literature since *** 1 is a 36-year-old male and case 2 is a 35-year-old female,both of which presented with abdominal *** were the only cases of pancreatic lymphangiomas reported at our institution since *** reviewed 69 cases of pancreatic lymphangiomas from 52 *** affects predominantly females with a median age of 43 and such patients typically present with abdominal pain(58.8%)or are asymptomatic(27.9%).The median size is 8.6 cm,the most common location is the head of pancreas and the most common imaging finding is that of a multilocular *** of patients underwent surgical resection(69.6%).Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration features of pancreatic lymphangiomas include chylous cyst fluid,elevated fluid triglyceride levels(15/16 cases)and numerous lymphocytes on *** majority of patients with elevated fluid triglyceride levels(13/15 cases)were managed *** lymphangiomas are rare pancreatic cystic lesions that may be diagnosed preoperatively using a multidisciplinary and multimodal approach involving clinical,radiological,biochemical and cytological features,allowing greater confidence in the selection of patients who can be managed conservatively.

PURPOSE: Local recurrence and cure rates following abdominoperineal resections have been reported to be much worse than sphincter-preserving anterior resections. We compared the oncologic outcomes of patients treated by abdominoperineal resections with those following sphincter-preserving anterior resections. METHODS: The medical records of patients who underwent radical rectal resection for rectal carcinoma at the Colorectal Surgery Department, Singapore General Hospital, during the period from April 1989 to April 2002 were reviewed. A total of 791 cases were studied. Operative procedures were classified as either abdominoperineal resections or anterior resections with either straight or pouch anastomosis. Total mesorectal excision was routinely performed for carcinomas of the lower middle and lower third of the rectum. Sentinel events, including local and systemic recurrences or morbidity and mortality, were tracked prospectively. RESULTS: There were a total of 93 abdominoperineal resections (12.1 percent), 547 anterior resections with straight anastomoses (71 percent), and 130 anterior resections with pouch anastomoses (16.9 percent). Postoperative mortality was 2.6 percent and postoperative morbidity was 13.6 percent with an overall anastomotic leakage rate of 2.5 percent. The cumulative five-year local recurrence rate was 5.4 percent for abdominoperineal resections, 3.6 percent for anterior resections with straight anastomoses, and 3.8 percent for anterior resections with pouch anastomoses (P = 0.73 by log-rank test). The median time to local recurrence also did not differ significantly between the different procedures (abdominoperineal resections, 17 months, anterior resections with straight anastomoses, 18 months, anterior resections with pouch anastomoses, 13 months). Independent predictors for local recurrence included advanced tumor stage, tumor depth, and poorly differentiated tumors. The five-year cancer-specific survival was 70 percent. The type of anas
