Process water of a pulp mill with kraft cooking, oxygen delignification and chlorine bleaching or chlorine dioxide (ECF) bleaching was examined from an aspect of a new level for environmental water quality in Japan. According to the new level, a concentration of dioxins consisting of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) and coplanar polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in environmental water is restricted to less than 1 pg- TEQ/L. We clarified that the 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzofuran (TCDF) concentrations were 0.5 pg/L or less. In addition, a main source of 1,3,6,8- and 1,3,7,9-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxins in the process water seemed to be an agrochemical in water supplied from a river.

The recycling of wet strength papers in a normal recycling mill is often troublesome due to the severe operating conditions required to defibre wet strength papers. The various methods are presented which will quickly allow mills to determine the most effective pulping aids to use when repulping wet strength papers. The repulping of wet strength paper with inorganic chemicals was investigated in the laboratory. The effects of major variables, that is, repulping time, pulp consistency, soaking time, temperature, and reactant concentration in the repulping stage were examined using Plackett-Burman design. The repulping time was the most crucial & influential process variable affecting repulping characteristic and formation related properties. The more significant repulping process variables affecting pulp yield were repulping time, soaking temperature and pulp consistency whereas for formation index and feature size, repulping time, pulp consistency, soaking temperature and time were the more important variables. The formation index is increased by an increase in repulping time, pulp consistency and soaking time whereas the feature size is decreased by an increase in repulping time, soaking temperature and pulp consistency. The formation index and the rejects were more sensitive to changes in process variables than were the feature size or the pulp yield. The pulp recycled from wet strength waste paper had good physical strength properties.

＜正＞The production of high-strength steel grades used for example in vehicle construction,structural steel engineering and for pipelines is one of the major trends in hot *** increased strength levels of these steel grades enable a reduction in material volume while at the same time maintaining or increasing the load bearing of the application. These steel grades with improved properties make significantly higher demands on the manufacturing process with respect to plant and process *** paper introduces requirements and the solutions of SMS Siemag for the processing of high-strength steels in hot strip mills. The cutting of a high-strength steel transfer bar requires a high *** SMS Siemag developed shears for a transfer bar thickness of up to 80 mm. In the finishing mill,important preconditions are high rolling forces and ***,powerful interstand cooling devices in the finishing train enable an exact temperature control for thermo-mechanical *** tension loopers safeguard the rolling stability. In the strip cooling systems,mechanical properties of the strip are set by means of high cooling rates and an accurate control of the strip *** laminar cooling and the compact cooling device offer a large variety of cooling strategies for the production of high-strength steel strip. For the coiling of these materials,SMS Siemag developed the UNI plus *** is designed for X80 pipe grades up to 25.4 mm at full strip width and low strip temperatures.

＜正＞Innovation and evolution of equipment,process technology and services for flat rolling mills are widely being driven by the market *** the late 80 ies,the requirements for flat rolled products have significantly increased. Today,key topics for steel product producers are enlargement of the product mix（new steel grades and/ or wider range of product sizes,thinner-wider-harder）,tight dimensional tolerances,homogenous and fit-topurpose mechanical properties such as strength and formability,prime surface quality,maximum product yield and high process efficiency. These requirements go in-line with the general trends for weight reduction,energy saving,environmental compatibility and enhanced product and process safety. The increased requirements for flat rolled products are reflected by increased requirements to rolling mill equipment,automation,and process *** application of powerful computational tools and methods is necessary for proper equipment and software design and process ***,the complete rolling process can be simulated off-line with a high accuracy,thus allowing for reliable off-line process and plant design. Based on the market requirements,after extensive research and development work,SMS Demag have introduced system solutions for the production of hot and cold rolled steel products,comprising properly designed equipment, powerful automation tools（including technological control systems and mathematical process models） and the relevant process ***,the complete product mix for hot and cold rolling mills including the new,complex,steel grades can be produced efficiently with a high product quality and productivity. This paper illustrates examples of state-of-the-art and new solutions for hot rolling mill equipment and *** particular,the increasingly strong interaction between mechanical and electrical equipment,automation, and process technology is being pointed out.

Achieving a very high production rate for the smaller-size range of bars products,in order to exploit reheating furnace capacity fully,has always been a common goal for bar producers *** one of the most common ways to reach this goal is to use the well-known Multistrand Slit Rolling system,a combination of dedicated roll-pass design and dedicated guiding equipment to shape and longitudinally separate the rolled stock into two,three or four individual strands,rolled together as one single bar down to the final finished *** alternative technology that will result in a real breakthrough innovation for the full spectrum of steel producers worldwide,will be the ultra-high speed bar finishing rolling and delivery into the cooling bed through the Danieli HTC "High-speed Twin Channel".This system,originally invented and patented by Danieli in the early 1970 s,has been operating successfully worldwide since then with speeds that,from the original top speed of 20 m/s during those years,has now reached the record speed of 50 m/s in the cooling *** HTC perfectly suits the latest generation high-production bar mills where smaller-size bars are slit at the pre-finishing continuous mill stands and finished on two independent strands through two Delta-type high-speed *** paper introduces the technical characteristics of the ultrahigh speed bar finishing rolling and delivery system,as well as its main highlights and benefits（...among the most significant:the possibility of producing down to 6-mm-dia rebars at very high output rates）.

＜正＞Canada is the largest world exporter of pulp and paper ie one third of world exports are from Canada. The demand for fibre by the pulp and paper industry as well as export sales have dramatically increased chip prices. Pulp mills have experienced a steady increase in wood cost to the point where wood costs can account for as much as 50% of pulp production cost. The increased cost and uncertain availability have strengthened the pulp and paper industry’s interest in alternative pulp fibre sources ie annual plants and agriculture wastes.

Efficient utilization of wheat straw residue(WSR) from pulp mills is an important priority for the sustainable development of the pulp and paper industry. In this study, the effects of ammonium sulfite(AS) pretreatment with different AS charges(wt%) and pretreatment temperatures on the chemical composition and enzymatic hydrolysis of WSR were studied. The results revealed that more lignin was removed with the increase of pretreatment temperature and AS charge. The degradation of hemicellulose became severe at high pretreatment temperature, while cellulose remained stable during the pretreatment process. The enzymatic hydrolysis efficiency of pretreated WSR was increased and then decreased with the increase of the AS charge and pretreatment temperature. The AS charge exerts a stronger effect on enzymatic hydrolysis efficiency than the pretreatment temperature. Glucan and xylan conversion ratios up to 88.9% and 44.9%, respectively, were obtained. The highest total sugar conversion ratio was 67.0% when WSR pretreated with 16% AS at 165℃ was hydrolyzed with a cellulase loading of 40 FPU per gram of glucan.

Sugarcane bagasse(SCB)is an important by-product in the sugar *** is a source of cellulose fibers or cellulose for paper mills and textiles *** this study,SCB was ethyl etherified in tetrahydrofuran(THF)after alkali *** alkali concentration for the pretreatment,the ratio of ethyl bromide(EtBr)to dried SCB in the reaction,reaction time,and temperature were investigated for the etherification of *** ethoxyl content and characterization of the product were determined using headspace gas chromatography(HS-GC),Fourier Transform Infrared(FT-IR)and 13C-NMR spectroscopy,*** was found that SCB was well-etherified with EtBr in *** ethylation of SCB,the ethoxyl content of the product was high when the alkali concentration and the ratio of EtBr to dried SCB were controlled from 50%to 75%and 4:1(V/w)to 6:1(V/w),*** reaction occurred optimally when the temperature was controlled below 110℃;above this temperature,the degree of etherification *** thermal stability of ethylated SCB was higher than that of SCB but slightly lower than that of commercial ethyl *** SCB has the potential to form composites with many materials because it is soluble in a wide variety of solvents.
