A critical pathway towards enhancing pulp mill biorefineries is to integrate the extraction and utilization of hemicelluloses into the pulping ***,an industrial pre-extraction strategy for hemicelluloses targeting eucalyptus kraft pulping process was *** solution or pulping white liquor was used to pre-extract hemicelluloses before the actual pulping *** response surface methodology(RSM)technique was applied to investigate the most suitable conditions to maximize the yield of these hemicelluloses while simultaneously minimizing the damage to pulp yields and ***(105 to 155℃),alkali concentration(3%to 8%),sulfidity(20%to 30%)and retention time(19 to 221 min)were combined to evaluate their effects on hemicellulose yields and chemical *** optimal pre-extraction conditions identified in this work(5.75%NaOH concentration,25%sulfidity at 135℃for 60 min)successfully allowed recovering 4.8%of hemicelluloses(based on the wood dry mass)and limited damages to pulp yields and *** cellulose content in pulp can even be increased by about 10%.Hemicellulose emulsification properties were also evaluated,which were comparable to synthetic *** study provides an industrial pathway to effectively separate and utilize wood hemicelluloses from the pulping process,which has the potential to improve the economy and material utilization of pulp and paper mills.

To meet the demand of raw material, i.e., wood, from the available sources always remained a big challenge for paper industries since the last two decades. For a sustainable supply of raw material in future, major plantation activities were undertaken by paper industries, like West Coast paper mills Limited （WCPM）, by constituting a society, i.e., Society for Afforestation, Research and Allied Works （SARA）, Dandeli in 2001. The main aim was to promote afforestation programme through major plantations activities on the degraded lands （under rainfed condition） and to generate employments and capacity building. The WCPM is a leading paper manufacturing industry of the country （under the flagship of Bangur group） located at the bank of Kali River in Dandeli of Uttar Kannada district in State Karnataka. To date, company through SARA has raised captive plantations on more than 50,000 acres of degraded land by farmers in different districts of Maharashtm, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamilnadu States under Captive Plantation Project through Contract for Farming （CFF） since 2006 under a simple agreement period of only five years. After five years, society arranged to harvest the first rotation crop of the farmer of 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 plantations and paid the amount of the crop directly to farmers. SARA has a mutual contract with WCPM for purchasing pulpwood. With this, farmers are getting full amount of their crop harvested after five years without any hurdle through SARA. SARA did all the expenditures, i.e., from land development, plantation and harvesting. Under its agroforestry plantation programme, superior planting material of various pulpwood species suited to particular area, i.e., Eucalyptus, Subabul, Casuarina and Acacia were planted on farmer＇s land. Farmers were also encouraged for intercropping, like maize, peanut （groundnut）, chilly, tomato and ginger with plantations. A fast and accurate method based on FTIR is developed for determining the lignin content and its characteristic bands in alkali solutions. The work consisted of two main parts: 1) establishing a predictive model and 2) determination of the accuracy of the model. The model was derived by applying the partial least squares algorithm for multivariate analyses to a set of spectrum data obtained from selected IR absorption regions in the range of 1600 - 900 cm-1. The model was tested with spent liquors obtained from commercial pulp mills. The accuracy of the predictive model is extremely high suitable for commercial applications, particularly for monitoring the dynamic response of modern kraft pulping processes.

＜正＞Soda-Anthraquinone process,a non-sulphur pulping process of fibrous materials,involves soda cooking in presence of small amount of Anthraquinone or its derivatives. This results in improved yield with less rejects without affecting any quality of *** though the effect of Anthraquinone on pulping of hard and softwood are extensively reported in literature, the information on non-woody fibres,specially for Wheat straw are extremely limited. As Wheat straw is now increasingly used in. Indian mills,it will be of immense potential to elucidate the optimal parameters in pulping of Wheat straw from operational point of these *** no correlations are available between input and output variables or kinetics of soda/soda-Anthraquinone pulping of Wheat straw. An attempt has been made in this present investigation to identify the effect of different pulping parameters on the degree of cooking of Wheat straw experimentally in the laboratory. The range of all possible input and output variables are examined in the light of normal industrial operation in terms of delignification. Based on the data Important kinetic parameters such as H-factor,specific reaction rate,and activation energy are evaluated for both soda and soda-Anthraquinone pulping *** pulp properties like screened yield, rejects,residual lignin,fibre fractionation,unbleached pulp-strength properties are also evaluated From detailed experimental studies,the main conclusions can be drawn as follows: The addition of Anthraquinone brings about 4-5 percent increase in yield,a significant decrease of Kappa number and lignin . content of pulp but no appreciable change in pentosan content. 10-13 percent active alkali might be taken as optimum for wheat straw *** optimum time and temperature at the bulk delignification stage for straw pulping are found to be 2 hours and 393K respectively with approximately 88 percent delignification. 423K with 1 hour cooking time can also be proper operationa

INTRODUCTIONThe Indian Pulp & paper Industry is more than a century old industry . The first paper mill was established in the year 1832 and today the number has grown to more than 400 in the organised sector which are located through out the country . In addition there are another 500 pulp & paper mills in the unorganized sector. The Indian pulp & paper industry can be categorised into large, medium and small depending on the scale of operation as indicated in Table -IMost of the large mills established initially were based on woody raw materials.
