Rapid immunodiagnostic assays for Mycobacterium Tuberculosis infection

Purpose: There is a need for a continued effort to develop rapid immunodiagnostic assays for tuberculosis (TB) infection with greater sensitivity and specificity that can be used in the field and in the laboratory and that can be formatted for use with multiple species. This would help to obtain definitive early diagnosis of TB. The present study was developed to determine the role of using early secreted antigenic target-6 (ESAT-6) in immunodiagnosis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Methods: Serum samples were obtained from TB infected patients and normal healthy controls. Two rapid immunodiagnostic assays (Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and Immunoblotting) were performed. Results: The sensitivity of immunoblotting assay was 100%;however, ESAT-6 antigen was not able to discriminate between patients and normal controls. Application of direct ELISA using ESAT-6 antigen yielded 97.6% sensitivity and 75% specificity for the diagnosis of TB infection. Conclusion: In conclusion, the detection of antibodies against ESAT-6 antigen in the sera of TB patients by direct ELISA could be used as a preliminary assay for diagnosis of human M. tuberculosis infection. A combination of the ELISA with either radiological or microscopic examination is required to overcome the low specificity of the assay for negative results.

The effect of Pr and Gd doping on the transport properties of Cu-deficient YBCO superconductors has been studied. Two series of Y1Ba2Cu3 - xRxO7 - δ, where R = Pr or Gd, were prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction technique. Resistance measurements showed a suppression of Tc with increasing of Pr- and Gd-contents in addition to a normal-state metal-to-insulator transition. Moreover, a superconductor-to-insulator transition has been observed at ambient pressure for temperatures less than 50 K for Pr with x = 0.3 and for Gd with x > 0.3. The overall complex behaviours of the resistivity data have been preliminary explained in terms of localization of charge carriers, structural disorders, and magnetic ordering of magnetic moments.

Ba0.5CaxSr0.5-xTiO3 (BCST) ceramics, where x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4, were prepared by the conventional solid state reaction technique. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the formation of BST perovskite phase structure besides some calcium oxide peaks for samples with high Ca content, x. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results confirmed the XRD results, i.e., as x increased, the average grain size decreased. Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis verified the increase of the amount of Ca element with increasing of its content. Mechanical properties such as ultrasonic attenuation, longitudinal wave velocity, and longitudinal elastic modulus were studied by an ultrasonic pulse echo technique at 2 MHz frequency. Investigations of ceramic microstructures and mechanical properties showed their dependence on composition. Increasing of Ca content resulted in a decrease in bulk density and ultrasonic attenuation and an increase in porosity, velocity, and modulus. High temperature ultrasonic studies showed, in addition to Curie phase transition, three or more relaxation peaks and its origin was investigated.

In k-means clustering, we are given a set of n data points in d-dimensional space R^d and an integer k and the problem is to determine a set of k points in R^d, called centers, so as to minimize the mean squared distance from each data point to its nearest center. In this paper, we present a simple and efficient clustering algorithm based on the k-means algorithm, which we call enhanced k-means algorithm. This algorithm is easy to implement, requiring a simple data structure to keep some information in each iteration to be used in the next iteration. Our experimental results demonstrated that our scheme can improve the computational speed of the k-means algorithm by the magnitude in the total number of distance calculations and the overall time of computation.

Heat transfer experiments were conducted to investigate the thermal performance of air cooling through mini-channel heat sink with various configurations. Two types of channels have been used, one has a rectangular cross section area of 5 × 18 mm2 and the other is triangular with dimension of 5 × 9 mm2. Four channels of each configuration have been etched on copper block of 40 mm width,30 mm height, and 200 mm length. The measurements were performed in steady state with air flow rates of 0.002 - 0.005 m3/s, heating powers of 80 - 200 W and channel base temperatures of 48°C, 51°C, 55°C and 60°C. The results showed that the heat transfer to air stream is increased with increasing both of air mass flow rate and channel base temperature. The rectangular channels have better thermal performance than trian- gular ones at the same conditions. Analytical fin approach of 1-D and 2-D model were used to predict the heat transfer rate and outlet air temperature from channels heat sink. Theoretical results have been compared with experimental data. The predicted values for outlet air temperatures using the two models agree well with a deviation less than ±10%. But for the heat transfer data, the deviation is about +30% to –60% for 1-D model, and –5% to –80% for 2-D model. The global Nusselt number of the present experimental data is empirically correlated as with accuracy of ±20% for and compared with other literature correlations.

Waterlogging and low application efficiency are the main problems inherent with surface irrigation in the Nile Delta. Develop surface irrigation using gated pipes (GP) is a new method to be used to distribute water into furrow irrigated fields as strategy based on water saving. Laboratory calibration was conducted out to evaluate the hydraulic characteristics of pipe gates. Field experiments were conducted at the Experimental Farm of the Agriculture Faculty, minufiya university during 2013 and 2014 seasons to evaluate the performance of utilize gated pipes technique for irrigating five maize varieties (S.C 10, S.C 130, S.C 131, S.C 2031 and T.W.C 321). The results revealed that the highest amount of water applied was with traditional surface irrigation (6423.81 m3·ha-1. Use of gated pipes system GP1 as compared to traditional irrigation reduced water application by 923.81 m3·ha-1 with grain and stover yields increases of 5.7% and 3.4%, respectively. Traditional irrigation system achieved lowest irrigation performance parameters compared to gated pipes systems. Maize physiological attributes, yield, water use efficiency (WUE) and nitrogen accumulation were significantly decreased by either deficit or surplus irrigation than of GP1 rate. S.C 2031 variety significantly surpassed other varieties in abovementioned traits. Significant interaction effects were detected in both seasons. Maize varieties respond differently to irrigation systems. The highest values of grain yield (11062.6 and 10911.8 kg·ha-1 and stover yield (13639.0 and 13902.2 kg·ha-1) were obtained by S.C 2031 irrigated with GP1 system in both seasons. From the above mentioned results, it is concluded that the gated pipes technique is better than traditional irrigation for improving WUE and maize productivity under Nile Delta conditions.

研究了退火温度对Se0.70Ge0.15Sb0.15薄膜的影响.通过热蒸发技术,在300K温度下将大块无定形Se0.70Ge0.15Sb0.1s沉积在石英和玻璃衬底上.研究发现,未经过退火处理的薄膜结构和在300K,1.33×10-5Pa下退火1小时后的薄膜结构都是无定形结构,而在同样气压470K温度下退火1小时的薄膜有结晶现象.通过在300 2 500nm范围内垂直入射光方向上透射率和反射率的测试,研究了薄膜的一些光学参数,如消光系数(k),折射系数(n)和吸收系数(a).研究发现,n和k同热处理温度有关.通过光学数据的分析,得到了不同条件下薄膜的间接带隙宽度(Enong),未经过热处理薄膜的Enong是1.715±0.021eV,300K下退火薄膜的Enong是1.643±0.021eV,470K下退火的Enong是1.527±0.021eV.退火温度降低了带隙宽度Enong,但增加了带尾eo这种效应可以根据Mott和Davis提出的多晶体系中态密度来解释.

In this paper, a theoretical treatment of the stability behavior of the zero solution of nonlinear damped oscillator in the vectorial case is investigated. We study the sufficient conditions for the boundedness of solution of the nonlinear damped vectorial oscillator and the conditions for the stability of the zero solution to be uniformly stable as well as asymptotically stable.
