Alveolar echinococcosis(AE) is a zoonotic disease that is caused by Echinococcus multilocularis that affects liver and a variety of organs and tissues. It differs from other echinococcal disease because it shows tumor like behavior in the affected organ and tissues. The treatment of choice is concomitant medical therapy and resection with negative margins. Nevertheless, resection with the intent of negative margins(R0) may lead to serious complications such as liver failure. In the present case report, we used Associating Liver Partition and Portal Vein Ligation for Staged Hepatectomy(ALPPS) procedure, which was defined in 2012 by Schnitzbauer et al, in a 28-year-old male patient to avoid complications of major liver resection in order to treat alveolar echinococcosis. Until now, we have not encountered any study using ALPPS procedure for the treatment of alveolar echinococcosis. In the present case report we aimed to show that ALPPS procedure can be safely performed for marginnegative resection of primary or recurrent AE that shows a tumor like behavior. It is our opinion that this procedure should be performed in centers that have expertise and sufficient technical capacity to perform liver transplantation and advanced liver surgery.

AIM: To assess the prevalence and stability of different antiphospholipid antibodies(APLAs) and their association with disease phenotype and progression in inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD) ***: About 458 consecutive patients [Crohn's disease(CD): 271 and ulcerative colitis(UC): 187] were enrolled into a follow-up cohort study in a tertiary IBD referral center in Hungary. Detailed clinical phenotypes were determined at enrollment by reviewing the patients' medical charts. Disease activity, medical treatment and data about evolvement of complications or surgical interventions were determined prospectively during the follow-up. Disease course(development f complicated disease phenotype and need for surgery),occurrence of thrombotic events, actual state of diseaseactivity according to clinical, laboratory and endoscopic scores and accurate treatment regime were recorded during the follow-up,(median, 57.4 and 61.6 mo for CD and UC). Sera of IBD patients and 103 healthy controls(HC) were tested on individual anti-β2-Glycoprotein-I(anti-β2-GPI IgA/M/G), anti-cardiolipin(ACA IgA/M/G)and anti-phosphatidylserine/prothrombin(anti-PS/PT IgA/M/G) antibodies and also anti-Saccharomyces cerevisiae antibodies(ASCA IgA/G) by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). In a subgroup of CD(n = 198) and UC patients(n = 103), obtaining consecutive samples over various arbitrary timepoints during the disease course, we evaluated the intraindividual stability of the APLA status. Additionally,we provide an overview of studies, performed so far, in which significance of APLAs in IBD were ***: Patients with CD had significantly higher prevalence of both ACA(23.4%) and anti-PS/PT(20.4%) antibodies than UC(4.8%, p < 0.0001 and10.2%, p = 0.004) and HC(2.9%, p < 0.0001 and15.5%, p = NS). Sulfidated nano zero-valent iron particles were immobilized on ZSM-5 zeolite(Z/S-nZⅥ)and used for hexavalent chromium(Cr(Ⅵ))*** performance of Z/S-nZⅥimproved with the increase in Cr(Ⅵ)concentration(0.6).Moreover,the removal mechanisms of Cr(Ⅵ)were elucidated through XRD,transmission electron microscopy(TEM)and XPS *** results demonstrate that the species of chromium in the critical layer changed from Cr(Ⅲ)to Cr(Ⅵ)as the concentration of chromium increased from low to ***,the critical layer was composed of Cr(Ⅵ),Fe(Ⅱ),O and H ***,the experiments of coexisting ions and aging time confirmed that Z/S-nZⅥpossessed high selectivity and stability to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness in practical applications.

Understanding predator-prey interactions has a pivotal role in biological control programs. This study evaluated the functional response of three larval instars of the green lacewing, Chrysoperla carnea （Stephens）, preying upon eggs and first instar larvae of the cotton bollworm, Helicoverpa armigera Hubner. The first and second instar larvae of C. carnea exhibited typeⅡ functional responses against both prey stages. However, the third instar larvae of C. carnea showed a type II functional response to the first instar larvae of H. armigera, but a typeⅢ functional response to the eggs. For the first instar larvae of C. carnea, the attack rate on H. armigera eggs was significantly higher than that on the larvae, whereas the attack rate of the second instar C. carnea on H. armigera larvae was significantly higher than that on the eggs. For the third instar larvae of C. carnea, the attack rate on the larvae was 1.015±0.278/h, and the attack coefficient on the eggs was 0.036 ±0.005. The handling times of the third instar larvae on larvae and eggs were 0.087 ± 0.009 and 0.071 ± 0.001 h, respectively. The highest predation rate was found for the third instar larvae of C. carnea on H. armigera eggs. Results of this study revealed that the larvae of C. carnea, especially the third instar, had a good predation potential in controlling H. armigera eggs and larvae. However, for a comprehensive estimation of the bio- control abilities of C. carnea toward H, armigera, further field-based studies are needed.

BACKGROUND: Castleman disease is an uncommon lympho-proliferative disorder most frequently occurring in the mediastinum. Abdominal forms are less frequent, with pancreatic localization of the disease in particular being extremely rare. Only seventeen cases have been described in the world literature. METHOD: This report describes an interesting and unusual case of pancreatic Castleman disease treated with laparoscopic resection. RESULTS: A 48-year-old woman presented with epigastric pain. CT scan showed a well-encapsulated mass on the ventral border of the pancreas. Endosonography with fine needle aspiration biopsy was performed. Biopsy showed lymphoid elements and structures of a normal lymph node. The patient was treated with laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy. The pancreas was transected with a Ligasure device and the pancreatic stump was secured with a manual suture. One year after surgery the patient was complaint-free and showed no signs of recurrence of the disease. CONCLUSIONS: Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy is a feasible and safe method for the treatment of lesions in the body and tail of the pancreas. Transection of the pancreas with a Ligasure device offers the advantages of low bleeding and low risk of pancreatic fistula.
