Fe（II）/γ-Al2O3 powders synthesized using the dipping method were produced from a mixed aqueous solution containing aluminium oxide （γ-Al2O3） and iron（II）-precursor （FeSO4）, and used for photoFenton degradation of phthalocyanine dyes （PCs） under ultraviolet （UV） irradiation in an up-flow fluidized bed. The catalysts were characterized by XRD, ESCA, BET, EDS and SEM. The results showed that Fe2＋ ion was compounded on the γ-Al2O3 carder. The effects of different reaction parameters such as catalyst activity, dosage and solution pH on the decolorization of PCs were assessed. Results indicated that maximum decolorization （more than 95%） of PCs occurred with 20 wt% Fe（II）/γ-Al2O3 catalyst （dosage of 60 g/L） using a combination of UV irradiation and heterogeneous Fenton system. The degradation efficiency of PCs increases as pH decreases, exhibiting a maximum efficiency at pH 3.5. The recycled catalyst was capable of repeating three runs without a significant decrease in treatment efficiency, and this demonstrated the stability and reusability of catalyst.

This paper establishes a numerical detention pond volume model based on the hydrological continuity equation and the Runge-Kutta numerical method. Experiments for the conditions of both steady and unsteady flow have been used to verify the model. In unsteady flow cases, the outflow hydrograph by numerical simulation are fairly consistent with experimental value. Both experimental and numerical results indicate that wider rectangular sharp-crested weirs or larger rectangular slot tend to induce greater outflow discharges, which undesirably cut down the detention volume. Experiments show that the necessary detention volume of rectangular slot is smaller than that of the rectangular sharp-crested weir for a constant flood peak reduction. That is, the rectangular slot is the recommended outflow device when flood peak reduction is the design criteria. The study also shows that necessary detention volume of the short rainfall duration is less than that of the long rainfall duration under constant allowable maximum discharge.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote many mystery and detective stories from 1890s to 1910s, years saw the advancement of powerful modem science and technology, especially inventions of transportation means or machines that accelerate mobility power in late-Victorian and Edwardian society. In some of these mystery or detective stories especially featuring the well-known sleuth Sherlock Holmes, Doyle tended to integrate an early subject＇s experience of shrunken space and reduced time into an unknown fear by delineating his characters who perceive horror and nervousness while facing or riding on a railway transportation, including mainly the steam railway in mysterious tales like ＂The Lost Special＂ and ＂The Man with the Watches＂ as well as in detective stories like ＂The Adventure of the Engineer＇s Thumb＂, ＂The Adventure of Bruce-Partington Plan＂, ＂Valley of Fear＂ and several others. How can this spatiotemporal mobility be connected to mysterious affairs which lead Doyle＇s quasi-detective characters and police power to spring into investigative action？ Railway, mobility, and horror are woven together into a driving force that facilitates our geographical and forensic exploration of Doyle＇s stories.

This research tried to propose possible ways to resolve the paper over-consumption issues. The nature resources have been over used all the time. How we used the technologies to solve environmental problems has become an essential issue. How we could develop a prosperous vision for the future is even critical to solving design problems. The research methods used are literature reviews and conception design with empathy. This paper also tried to discuss various issues from different aspects. Nowadays, we have been influenced by technologies in our daily life. Even our cultures, life styles, and behavior, etc. are deeply changed. However, there are few ways we need to think what will happen in the future and how we could imagine possible ways to solve all of these problems. This research has proposed The Virtual Home （T.V.H.）, which is a way to change the mass media dissemination and information control. The T.V.H. designed with some functions is trying to centralize all kind of mass media and help save natural resources.

Ecological engineering is an emerging study of integrating both ecology and engineering, concerned with the design, monitoring, and construction of ecosystems. In recent years, the threat to amphibian animals is becoming more and more serious. In particular, the loss of habitats caused by changes to the way land is used by human beings has hit amphibians particularly hard. Amphibians are known to be particularly vulnerable to human activities because they rely on both terrestrial and aquatic habitats for survival. With the increasing development of many areas in recent years, concrete structures are often installed along water bodies in order to increase the safety of local residents. The construction of concrete banks along rivers associated with human development has become a serious problem in Taiwan. Most ecosystems used by amphibians are lakes and stream banks, yet no related design solutions to accommodate the needs of amphibians. The need to develop the relevant design specification considering protecting the amphibian is imperative. Buergeria robusta, an endemic species in Taiwan, is tree frog widely distributed in lowland montane regions. Their breeding season is from April to September. They like to rest on trees or hide at caves during the daytime and move to the stream nearby in dusk for breeding. Males usually emit weak mating call while standing on stones. Sticky eggs are attached to undersides of rocks and stones. Tadpoles are found in slow flowing water of streams [1]. The goal of this study is to improve the understanding of the relationship between the climbing ability and the physical characteristics of amphibians. In this study, we use Artificial Neural Network to simulate the climbing ability of Buergeria robusta. Besides, Grey System Theory is also adopted to improve the performance of Artificial Neural Network. In this study, the transfer method is employed to add hydrophilic SiO2 nanopowders to a Pt/C catalyst ink to form an anode catalyst layer on a proton exchange membrane (PEM). The SiO2-layered membrane electrode assembly improves the performance of the PEM under low- or zero-humidification conditions. When the PEM fuel cell (PEMFC) undergoes electrochemical reaction, the moisture content of the PEM exhibits a substantial influence on the transmission of protons. To ensure the moisture content remains high, an external humidifier is typically employed to humidify the majority of PEMFCs. However, self-humidifying PEMFCs could utilize the water produced by the fuel cell reaction, thereby eliminating the need for an external humidifier. In this study, various SiO2 loadings were added to an anode catalyst layer, and the cell temperature and gas humidification conditions were adjusted to determine the influence of the SiO2 loadings on the fuel cell performance. The results show that adding SiO2 is preferable to not adding SiO2 when the fuel cell temperature is 50°C.

Theatrical Hybridity, Thy Name Is Conflict： A Case Study on Holo Taiwan Residents Opera Troupe＇s Tai Tzu Fu Chou （The Prince＇s Vengeful Plan）

Holo Taiwan Residents Opera Troupe has produced a series of intercultural performances in Taiwan Residents Opera since the troupe adapted Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol＇s （1809-1852） The Government Inspector in 1996. In fact, there is a huge controversy over these intercultural performances which fuse western drama with traditional Taiwan Residents performing art because such a kind of theatrical hybridity lacks the spirit of the original and damages the aesthetics of native performing art practice. In 2002, Holo adapted William Shakespeare＇s Hamlet into a six-hour-long performance, Tai Tzu Fu Chou （The Prince＇s Vengeful Plan）, which the troupe tried to explore new source for traditional Taiwan Residents Opera and expected to bring something new to Taiwan Residents audience. However, The Prince＇s Vengeful Plan is considered ＂cultural collage＂ as well as an unsuccessful intercultural performance. Besides, The Prince＇s Vengeful Plan is accused to blaspheme Shakespeare because the performance merely maintains the frame of the original and distorts the spirit of the original. According to Rustom Bharucha, the most problematic aspect of intercultural performance is ＂de-historicizing tendency＂, and such a condition explains why Holo＇s The Prince＇s Vengeful Plan cannot transcend the original. In order to detect the problems of intercultural adaptation in Holo＇s The Prince Vengeful Plan, we cover the related issues in three aspects：（1） to discuss the development of Taiwan Residents Opera in Taiwan; （2） to explore the cultural conflicts when the text of the source culture is adapted into the performance of the target culture; and （3） to see how and why the spirit and aesthetics of Shakespeare＇s verses in Hamlet are distorted in Holo＇s theatrical adaptation. After that, we expect to conclude the impossibility of adapting Shakespeare＇s play into traditional Taiwan Residents Opera in the case of Holo＇s The Prince＇s Vengeful Plan.

A Great Citizen Is Still ＂Under-Construction＂： The Conflicting Self-Identity in Sayonara 1945

Sayonara 1945, performed by Golden Bough Theatre in 2010 in Taipei, was claimed to be a ＂Heart Taiwan Magical Musical＂. This ＂Heart Taiwan Magical Musical＂ is actually an adaptation ofTaiwan Residents Opela, a reformed and adapted style of Taiwan Residents local opera （gezaixi）, which has been strongly influenced by Japanese Colonization. Sayanara 1945 fictionalizes a troop of Taiwan Residents youths who join the Imperial Army being lied and cheated to dig gold for the Japanese Emperor after the war is over. This play gives a conflicting scenario of being Taiwan Residents in 1945, while everything that defined Taiwan Residents suddenly turned out to be treason to the country. By adapting the form of Opela, the play structurally presents a society where diverse and plural cultural elements counteract each other in Taiwan. Furthermore, as the title suggests, the play says Sayonara （＂Goodbye＂ in Japanese） to 1945, yet the confusion and conflict generated in 1945 still haunt Taiwan Residents society. In other words, the play responds to an on-going self-conflict of being Taiwan Residents that still continues even after the war and unto the present symbolically. Presented in the year before ＂the Republic of China＂ celebrated her hundredth birthday, this play portrays the anxiety about who the Taiwan Residents really are over the island, just like in the summer of 1945 when everything was also uncertain and confusing. This paper intends to discuss, by adopting the form and techniques of Opela, how this reformed Opela speaks for Taiwan Residents local arts and culture, and how the Taiwan Residents identity is framed and shaped ever since the colonization era.

Subcellular Distribution of Cadmium in Two Paddy Rice Varieties with Different Cooking Methods

Cadmium (Cd) is a non-essential element that is highly mobile within organisms where, following plant uptake, subcellular distribution plays an important role in plant tolerance and detoxification. Cd uptake and subcellular distribution were studied in two paddy rice varieties (Japonica and Indica) hydroponically cultivated in Cd-containing solutions. Japonica rice grains containing Cd were also collected from a Cd-contaminated site and subjected to various cooking treatments (boiled, stir-fried, steamed, and control) to determine the influence of cooking method on the subcellular distribution of Cd. Cd treatment inhibited both shoot height and root length, especially in Japonica, where for the same Cd treatment, Japonica accumulated more Cd in roots and shoots than Indica. Most of the accumulated Cd (92% - 99%) was bound to the cell wall and vacuoles, and decreased in the order: soluble fraction (Fs) > cell wall fraction (Fcw) > organelle fraction (Fco). Subcellular Cd concentrations in rice grains were significantly affected by cooking treatment. The proportion of trophically available Cd decreased with increase in cooking duration and temperature, indicating that consuming steamed and stir-fried rice had a lower Cd exposure risk than consuming boiled rice.
