Ischaemia-reperfusion injury(IRI) is the leading cause of injury seen in the liver following transplantation. IRI also causes injury following liver surgery and haemodynamic shock. The first cells within the liver to be injured by IRI are the liver sinusoidal endothelial cells(LSEC). Recent evidence suggests that LSEC coordinate and regulates the livers response to a variety of injuries. It is becoming increasingly apparent that the cyto-protective cellular process of autophagy is a key regulator of IRI. In particular LSEC autophagy may be an essential gatekeeper to the development of IRI. The recent availability of liver perfusion devices has allowed for the therapeutic targeting of autophagy to reduce IRI. In particular normothermic machine liver perfusion(NMP-L) allow the delivery of pharmacological agents to donor livers whilst maintaining physiological temperature and hepatic flow rates. In this review we summarise the current understanding of endothelial autophagy and how this may be manipulated during NMP-L to reduce liver IRI.

The phenomenon of induced transparency, characterized by a high quality(Q) factor, holds significant importance in the fields of high-precision sensing, energy storage and wave manipulation. Conventional transparency systems are often constrained by the limited experimentally accessible parameter space and the lack of independent control over intrinsic parameters, thereby hindering advanced research on high-Q effects. Here we propose a virtualized coupled-oscillator system that enables reconfigurable induced transparency in the reflection spectrum. By virtually incorporating a pair of coupled oscillators into an individual acoustic meta-atom, we achieve the manipulation of induced transparency in a decoupled, wide-ranging, and elaborate manner. Exploiting the diverse evolutions across the intrinsic parameter space, we show experimentally a counter-intuitive increase in the Q-factor of the transparency window, which is attributed to the enhanced dissipation of the bright ***, a constant group delay at the center frequency is observed accompanying this evolution. Our work demonstrates an intriguing platform as well as a novel strategy to engineer high-Q induced transparency phenomenon, and paves the way towards applications in programmable acoustic sensors, filters and slow-wave devices.

This paper studies the effect of option trading on corporate investment and financing *** on prior literature,I hypothesize that option market induces informed trading and thus reduces information asymmetry and the cost of *** a result,firms with high option trading have more investment and ***,based on the United States public data,this paper finds that option trading volume increases corporate investment and financing,but reduces cash holdings and corporate *** results are robust to the inclusion of industry or firm fixed effect,a control for endogenous options trading,and the use of alternative measures of option trading and corporate *** effect of option trading is stronger for firms with higher information asymmetry ***,this paper finds the results are inconsistent with the“quiet Life”hypothesis and the catering hypothesis.

Although many causes of Alzheimer’s disease(AD)may exist,both the original amyloid cascade and tau hypotheses posit that abnormal misfolding and accumulation of amyloid-β(Aβ)and tau protein is the central event causing the ***,that conclusion could be only partly true,and there is conflicting evidence about the role of both proteins in AD,being able to precede and influence one *** researchers argue that these proteins are mere executors rather than primary causes of ***,there have been continuing refinements of both hypotheses,with alternative explanations proposed.Aβand tau proteins may be independently involved in specific neurotoxic pathways;yet there may be other crucial processes going on in early ***,accumulating evidence suggests that Aβand tau act synergistically,rather than additively in disease onset(Jeremic et al.,2021,2023a).

Nowadays, using Deterministic Finite Automata (DFA) or Non-deterministic Finite Automata (NFA) to parse regular expressions is the most popular way for Deep Packet Inspection (DPI), and the research about DPI focuses on the improvement of DFA to reduce memory. However, most of the existing literature ignores a special kind of "overlap-matching expression", which causes states explosion and takes quite a large part in the DPI rules. To solve this problem, in this paper a new mechanism is proposed based on bitmap. We start with a simple regular expression to describe "overlap-matching expressions" and state the problem. Then, after calculating the terrible number of exploded states for this kind of expressions, the procedure of Bitmap-based Soft Parallel Mechanism (BSPM) is described. Based on BSPM, we discuss all the different types of "overlap-matching ex- pressions" and give optimization suggestions of them separately. Finally, experiment results prove that BSPM can give an excellent performance on solving the problem stated above, and the optimization suggestions are also effective for the memory reduction on all types of "overlap-matching expressions".

Environmental sampling of volatile organic compounds during the 2018 Camp Fire in Northern California

Trace analysis of volatile organic compounds(VOCs) during wildfires is imperative for environmental and health risk assessment. The use of gas sampling devices mounted on unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs) to chemically sample air during wildfires is of great interest because these devices move freely about their environment, allowing for more representative air samples and the ability to sample areas dangerous or unreachable by humans. This work presents chemical data from air samples obtained in Davis, CA during the most destructive wildfire in California's history-the 2018 Camp Fire – as well as the deployment of our sampling device during a controlled experimental fire while fixed to a UAV. The sampling mechanism was an in-house manufactured micro-gas preconcentrator(μPC) embedded onto a compact battery-operated sampler that was returned to the laboratory for chemical analysis. Compounds commonly observed in wildfires were detected during the Camp Fire using gas chromatography mass spectrometry(GC–MS), including BTEX(benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, m + p-xylene, and o-xylene), benzaldehyde, 1,4-dichlorobenzene, naphthalene, 1,2,3-trimethylbenzene and 1-ethyl-3-methylbenzene. Concentrations of BTEX were calculated and we observed that benzene and toluene were highest with average concentrations of 4.7 and 15.1 μg/m^(3), respectively. Numerous fire-related compounds including BTEX and aldehydes such as octanal and nonanal were detected upon experimental fire ignition, even at a much smaller sampling time compared to samples taken during the Camp Fire. Analysis of the air samples taken both stationary during the Camp Fire and mobile during an experimental fire show the successful operation of our sampler in a fire environment.

Loose phrase extraction method is proposed and applied for phrase-based statistical ma- chine translation. The method extracts phrase pairs that are not strictly consistent with word align- ments. Two types of constraints on word positions are investigated for this method. Furthermore, n-best alignments are introduced for phrase extraction instead of the one-best. Experimental results show that the proposed approach outperforms the baseline system, Pharaoh system, for both one-best and n-best alignments.

Dispersion engineering in optical waveguides allows applications relying on the precise control of phase matching conditions to be implemented. Although extremely effective over relatively narrow band spectral regions,dispersion control becomes increasingly challenging as the bandwidth of the process of interest *** matching can also be achieved by exploiting the propagation characteristics of waves exciting different spatial modes of the same waveguide. Phase matching control in this case relies on achieving very similar propagation characteristics across two, and even more, waveguide modes over the wavelengths of interest, which may be rather far from one another. We demonstrate here that broadband(>40 nm) four-wave mixing can be achieved between pump waves and a signal located in different bands of the communications spectrum(separated by50 nm) by exploiting interband nonlinearities. Our demonstration is carried out in the silicon-rich silicon nitride material platform, which allows flexible device engineering, allowing for strong effective nonlinearity at telecommunications wavelengths without deleterious nonlinear-loss effects.

Die filling is a critical stage during powder compaction,which can significantly affect the product quality and *** this paper,a forced feeder is introduced attempting to improve the filling performance of a lab-scale die filling *** die filling process is analysed with a graphics processing units(GPU)enhanced discrete element method(DEM).Various stirrer designs are assessed for a wide range of process settings(i.e.,stirrer speed,filling speed)to explore their influence on the die filling performance of free-flowing *** results show that die filing with the novel helical-ribbon(i.e.,type D)stirrer design exhibits the highest filling ratio,implying that it is the most robust stirrer design for the feeder configuration ***,die filling performance with the type D stirrer design is a function of the stirrer speed and the filling speed.A positive variation of filling ratio(ηf>0%)can be ensured over the whole range of filling speed by adjusting the stirrer speed(i.e.,increasing the stirrer speed).The approach used in this study can not only help understand how the stirrer design affects the die filling performance but also guide the optimization of feeder system and process settings.

人体行为识别是计算机视觉领域的一个热点问题,然而目前大部分算法都是仅使用RGB或深度视频序列,很少将它们结合起来进行行为识别.由于它们都有各自的优点且信息是互补的,因此文中研究深度图像和RGB图像的特性,不仅提出两种鲁棒的深度图和RGB图像上的行为描述算法,而且将它们有效融合,进一步结合多个不同核函数的SVM分类器在具有挑战性的DHA数据集上对它们进行评估.大规模实验结果表明,文中提出的行为描述算法性能比一些最具代表性算法的性能更好.同时,深度数据和RGB图像融合后算法性能得到进一步提高,比单独使用深度数据或RGB图像的性能更好,且具有较好的区分性和鲁棒性.
