State-sensitive convolutional sparse coding for potential biomarker identification in brain signals

The identification of prototypical waveforms, such as sleep spindles and epileptic spikes, is crucial for the diagnosis of neurological disorders. These prototypical waveforms are usually recurrently presented in certain brain states, serving as potential biomarkers for clinical evaluations. Convolutional sparse coding(CSC) approaches have demonstrated strength in identifying recurrent patterns in time-series. However,existing CSC approaches do not explicitly explore state-specific patterns, making it difficult to identify state-related biomarkers. To address this problem, we propose state-sensitive CSC to learn state-specific prototypical waveforms. Specifically, we model signals of a certain state with specific waveforms that only appear frequently in this state and background waveforms that are independent of states. Based on this,state-sensitive CSC separates state-specific waveforms from background ones explicitly by incorporating incoherence constraints into optimizations. Experiments with epilepsy brain signals demonstrate that our approach can effectively identify prototypical waveforms in pre-ictal states, providing potential biomarkers for seizure prediction. Our approach provides a promising tool for automatic biomarker candidate identification.

Studies have indicated the different effects of PM_(2.5)components on human ***,specific components that influence the severity of disease in schizophrenia patients and their underlying mechanisms remain ***,a repeated measures study for schizophrenia was constructed based on Anhui mental health *** collected information,including demographics and thyroid hormones(TH)levels,on repeat admissions of schizophrenia patients during 2017−2020,assessing their illness severity by positive and negative symptom scales(PANSS).Concentrations from the nearest component monitoring station in the 3 months before admission were assigned as the participant’s exposure *** assessed the effects of PM_(2.5)components individually and in combination on schizophrenia and explored the mediating role of *** indicated that benzo[a]pyrene,sulfate,nitrate,chloride,ammonia,cadmium,chromium,lead,selenium,and thallium exposure were associated with increased PANSS scores,with more significant results observed in *** exposure to PM_(2.5)components was found to be associated with increased PANSS scores and decreased free triiodothyronine(FT3).Mediation analysis suggested that the reduction in FT3 might mediate the association between the PM_(2.5)components and PANSS *** findings emphasize the impacts of PM_(2.5)components on schizophrenia and the potential value of focusing on changes in THs.

Background:Curcumin is a plant polyphenol with antitumor properties and inhibits the development of colorectal cancer(CRC).However,as the molecular mechanism associated is still unclear,our study aimed to explore the underlying molecular mechanisms by which curcumin inhibits ***:HT29 and SW480 cells were treated with curcumin or/and Doxycycline(DOX),and cell viability,colony forming ability,migration and invasion were conﬁrmed by cell counting kit-8(CCK-8),colony forming,Transwell *** Yes-associated protein 1(YAP)and PDZ-binding motif(TAZ)signaling-related genes or proteins were analyzed using reverse transcription quantitative real-time PCR(RT-qPCR),western blot,and immunoﬂuorescence *** nude mice xenograft tumor model was constructed,YAP and Ki67 expressions were tested by immunohistochemistry(IHC)***:In our study,we proved that curcumin signiﬁcantly inhibited the CRC cell viability,cell migration,and cell invasion *** addition,curcumin inhibited YAP and Transcriptional coactivator with TAZ or the YAP/TAZ signaling axis in CRC ***,in the nude mice model,curcumin treatment signiﬁcantly decreased the size and weight of xenotransplant ***:Therefore,curcumin signiﬁcantly inhibited CRC development and invasion by regulating the YAP/TAZ signaling axis.

Analysis of the Current Status and Influencing Factors of Family Members’Collateral Stigma in Schizophrenia Patients

Objective: To investigate the associated collateral stigma of the family members of schizophrenia patients and analyze its current status and influencing factors. Methods: The Link Depreciation-Discrimination Perception Scale was used to investigate the status quo of the associated stigma of the family members of 169 schizophrenia patients diagnosed in 4 hospitals in a certain province. The results of the investigation were analyzed and summarized. Results: The detection rate of stigma associated with the family members of schizophrenia patients was 72.78%, with a score of 28.41 ± 3.92 points. The main influencing factors were the family member’s education level, the patient’s illness duration, the family member’s occupation, and the family-patient relationship. Conclusion: The detection rate of stigma associated with schizophrenia was relatively high. This requires increased attention and appropriate nursing intervention.

BACKGROUND Cognitive reserve(CR)and the catechol-O-methyltransferase(COMT)Val/Met polymorphism are reportedly linked to negative symptoms in ***,the regulatory effect of the COMT genotype on the relationship between CR and negative symptoms is still *** To investigate whether the relationship between CR and negative symptoms could be regulated by the COMT Val/Met *** In a cross-sectional study,54 clinically stable patients with schizophrenia underwent assessments for the COMT genotype,CR,and negative *** was estimated using scores in the information and similarities subtests of a short form of the Chinese version of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence *** COMT Met-carriers exhibited fewer negative symptoms than Val *** the total sample,significant negative correlations were found between negative symptoms and information,*** between information,similarities and negative symptoms were observed in Val homozygotes only,with information and similarities showing interaction effects with the COMT genotype in relation to negative symptoms(information,β=-0.282,95%CI:-0.552 to-0.011,P=0.042;similarities,β=-0.250,95%CI:-0.495 to-0.004,P=0.046).CONCLUSION This study provides initial evidence that the association between negative symptoms and CR is under the regulation of the COMT genotype in schizophrenia.
