Vulnerability and Conservation of Nearshore Cetaceans to Increasing Vessel Traffic:The Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphin in the South China Sea

A comprehensive risk assessment to evaluate the vulnerability of the nearshore cetaceans to increasing marine traffic is *** this study,the risk to Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins(Sousa chinensis)in the main habitats in China was assessed based on a semiquantitative spatial vulnerability analysis.85%of the(sub)population which overlapped with the lanes of ferries and/or cargo vessels,with exposure scores of 1.23±0.31(calculated based on the proportion of sea routes that overlap the dolphin’s range).A combination of high exposure to the sea routes and sensitivity to marine traffic would render the(sub)populations to be highly vulnerable(EPRE:5.21 and XM:4.47).A low frequency of vessels and an awareness of the ecology assures a low vulnerability(SH:2.43,EZ:2.73).Uncertainty scores were commonly lower for the higher vulnerable populations,and higher for the lower vulnerable populations,suggesting additional field data and more monitoring are *** years of field data have been used to analyze the influences of various types of marine traffic on humpback dolphin *** and non-fishing vessels were significantly different(χ^(2)=65.19,p<0.01).The humpback dolphins were attracted by fishing vessels(83.1%)but avoided non-fishing vessels(95.2%).We recommend a management with seasonal and geographical constraints,to balance economic development and environmental conservation.

Photoperiod Mediates the Effects of Temperature and Light Intensity on the Proliferation of Ulva prolifera

In order to study the complex effects of photoperiod,temperature,and light intensity on the spore maturation and release number of Ulva prolifera,we cultured thalli segment(2–3 mm)under three different photoperiods(L:D=12:12,14:10 and 10:14),temperature(15℃(LT),25℃(MT)and 30℃(HT))and light intensity(100,200 and 400μmol m^(−2)s^(−1),noted as LL,ML and HL,respectively)*** the maturation time,spore release number and chlorophyll fluorescence were *** results suggested that:1)The spore maturation time was accelerated by higher temperature or higher light intensity from 62 h to 36 h,and changes in day length accelerated the spore maturation to a certain extent as compared with 12:12 light/dark cycle;2)Higher light intensity significantly decreased the chlorophyll fluorescence(Fv′/Fm′,NPQ,rETRmax andα)of the mature reproductive segment under 30℃with 12:12 light/dark *** when in the other photoperiods(10:14 and 14:10 conditions),the inhibitory effects of high light intensity were alleviated significantly;3)The optimum condition for the spore maturation and release was 12:12 light/dark cycle,25℃,400μmol m^(−2)s^(−1),with both shorter and longer photoperiod reducing the spore release number;4)Higher light intensity significantly increased the spore release number under 25℃,but these effects were alleviated by 30℃*** study is the first attempt to elucidate the coincidence effects of photoperiod,temperature and light intensity on the reproduction of Ulva,which would help to reveal the mechanism of the rapid proliferation of green tide.

The basic structure and intraseasonal evolution of currents in the southeastern Andaman Sea was analyzed based on data collected in 2017 from two subsurface moorings(C1 and C5).Periodic variation in the upper ocean currents of the Andaman Sea was investigated by combining observational and satellite *** observations show that rapid changes of current speed and direction occurred in May and June,with a significant increase in current velocity at the C1 *** the second half of the year,southward flow dominated at the C1 mooring,and alternating northward and southward flows were evident at the C5 mooring during the same period but the northward flow prevailed in boreal *** addition,analysis of the power spectra of the upper currents revealed that the tidal period at both moorings is primarily semidiurnal with weaker energy than that of the low-frequency *** upper ocean currents at the C1 and C5 moorings exhibited intraseasonal variation of 30-60 d and 120 d,while the zonal current at the C1 mooring exhibited a notable period of approximately 180 *** analysis indicated that the variability of currents in the Andaman Sea is influenced primarily by equatorial Kelvin waves and Rossby wave ***,our results suggest that equatorial Kelvin waves from the eastern Indian Ocean entered the Andaman Sea in the form of Wyrtki Jets and propagated primarily along two distinct pathways during the observation *** addition to coastal boundary Kelvin waves,it was found that a branch of the Wyrtki Jet that directly enters the Andaman Sea and flows northward along the slope of the continental shelf,and reflected Rossby wave packets by topography.

Characteristics Variation of Atmospheric CO_(2)and CH_(4)in Yongxing Island,South China Sea

Using the observation data in Yongxing Island,South China Sea(SCS)from December 2013 to November 2018,the multiple time scales variation of atmospheric CO_(2)and CH_(4)were analyzed to understand their temporal variation characteristics and controlling *** regional-averaged background mole fractions of CO_(2)and CH_(4)both show a single-period sinusoidal variation with a lower value at noon and a higher value in the wee *** the seasonal scale,they exhibited a significant seasonal difference with higher values in winter and lower values in *** the annual scale,CO_(2)and CH_(4)both show an increasing trend,with an annual growth rate of approximately 3.2 ppm and 12 ppb,*** annual growth rate at this site was higher than the global *** change in atmospheric CO_(2)and CH_(4)in Yongxing Island was probably caused by the higher emission of the surrounding areas and the airflows driven by ***,the long-term and high-resolution greenhouse gases(GHGs)dataset will aid relevent researchers and decision-makers in performing more in-depth studies for GHG sources in order to derive effective strategies.

An anisotropic diffusion filter can be used to model a flow-dependent background error covariance matrix,which can be achieved by solving the advection-diffusion *** of the directionality of the advection term,the discrete method needs to be chosen very *** finite analytic method is an alternative scheme to solve the advection-diffusion *** a combination of analytical and numerical methods,it not only has high calculation accuracy but also holds the characteristic of the auto *** demonstrate its ability,the one-dimensional steady and unsteady advection-diffusion equation numerical examples are respectively solved by the finite analytic *** more widely used upwind difference method is used as a control *** result indicates that the finite analytic method has higher accuracy than the upwind difference *** the two-dimensional case,the finite analytic method still has a better *** the three-dimensional variational assimilation experiment,the finite analytic method can effectively improve analysis field accuracy,and its effect is significantly better than the upwind difference and the central difference ***,it is still a more effective solution method in the strong flow region where the advective-diffusion filter performs most prominently.

Lipase and photodecarboxylase coexpression: A potential strategy for alkane-based biodiesel production from natural triglycerides

Alkane-based biodiesel is considered the next generation of biodiesel owing to its potential environmental benefits and the fact that it exhibits much higher specific caloric values than traditional ***,the formidable obstacle impeding the commercialization of this cutting-edge fuel alternative lies in the cost associated with its *** this study,an engineered strain Escherichia coli(***)showcasing harmonized coexpression of a lipase(from Thermomyces lanuginosus lipase,TLL)and a fatty acid photodecarboxylase(from Chlorella variabilis,CvFAP)was first constructed to transform triglycerides into *** potential of *** BL21(DE3)/pRSFDuet-1-TLL-CvFAP for alkane synthesis was evaluated with tripalmitin as a model substrate under various process *** a comprehensive examination of the reaction parameters,the scope of the biotransformation was expanded to‘real’substrates(vegetable oils).The results showed that bioderived oils can be transformed into alkanes with high yields(0.80-10.20 mmol·L^(-1))under mild conditions(35℃,pH 8.0,and 36 h)and blue light *** selected processes were performed on an increased lab scale(up to 100 ml)with up to 24.77 mmol·L^(-1) tripalmitin,leading to a yield of 18.89 mmol·L^(-1) *** the employment of a method for efficiently producing alkanes under mild conditions and a simple procedure to isolate alkanes from the reaction system,the utilization of sustainable biomass as a fundamental feedstock emerges as the primary solution to lower the cost of alkane-based ***,this study proposes a readily implementable and highly effective approach for alkane-based biodiesel production.

Extraction of Acoustic Normal Mode Depth Functions Using Range-Difference Method with Vertical Linear Array Data

Data-derived normal mode extraction is an effective method for extracting normal mode depth functions in the absence of marine environmental ***,when the corresponding singular vectors become nonunique when two or more singular values obtained from the cross-spectral density matrix diagonalization are nearly equal,this results in unsatisfactory extraction outcomes for the normal mode depth *** address this issue,we introduced in this paper a range-difference singular value decomposition method for the extraction of normal mode depth *** performed the mode extraction by conducting singular value decomposition on the individual frequency components of the signal's cross-spectral density *** was achieved by using pressure and its range-difference matrices constructed from vertical line array *** proposed method was validated using simulated *** addition,modes were successfully extracted from ambient noise.

Characterization,expression dynamics,and potential function of OPA1 for regulation of mitochondrial morphology during spermiogenesis in Phascolosoma esculenta

Mitochondria undergo morphological changes during spermatogenesis in some *** mechanism and role of mitochondrial morphology regulation,however,remain somewhat *** this study,we analyzed the molecular characteristics,expression dynamics and subcellular localization of optic atrophy protein 1(OPA1),a mitochondrial fusion and cristae maintenance-related protein,to reveal the possible regulatory mechanisms underlying mitochondrial morphology in Phascolosoma esculenta *** full-length cDNA of the *** opa1 gene(Pe-opa1)is 3743 bp in length and encodes 975 amino *** Pe-OPA1 protein is highly conservative and includes a transmembrane domain,a GTPase domain,two helical bundle domains,and a lipid-interacting *** and protein expression was higher in the coelomic fluid(a site of spermatid development)of male *** and increased first and then decreased from March to ***,their expression during the breeding stage was significantly higher than during the non-breeding stage,suggesting that Pe-OPA1 is involved in *** *** Pe-OPA1 protein was more abundant in components consisting of many spermatids than in components without,indicating that Pe-OPA1 mainly plays a role in the spermatid in coelomic ***,Pe-OPA1 was mainly detected in the spermatid *** experiments showed that the Pe-OPA1 are constitutively expressed and co-localized with mitochondria during spermiogenesis,suggesting its involvement in *** *** results provide evidence for Pe-OPA1's involvement in the regulation of mitochondrial morphology during spermiogenesis.

Auto-Detection Method Using Convolution Neural Network for Bottom-Simulating Reflectors

In studies on gas hydrate,bottom-simulating reflectors(BSR)are used to determine the potential hydrate-bearing sedimentary ***,BSR detection is performed manually by experienced ***,a method for implementing an auto-matic BSR detection process should be *** this study,we develop a novel architecture for BSR characterization using the convolutional neural network(CNN)*** propose the use of Stokes’transform(ST)to obtain a time-frequency spectrum for the input of *** fully uses the frequency content of the seismic data,and a part of the 3D seismic data collected from the Blake Ridge is utilized to train the *** seismic records with variable signal-to-noise ratios(SNR),as well as Blake Ridge seismic data,were used to validate the detection effect of the *** show that the CNN trained by this method exhibits excellent performance in noise-resistant testing and achieves an accuracy of more than 89% in field seismic data detection.

Eutrophication of Jiangsu Coastal Water and Its Role in the Formation of Green Tide

Since 2007,the large-scale green tide caused by Ulva prolifera(***)have occurred as a recurrent phenomenon in the southern Yellow Sea of *** surveys and satellite remote sensing showed that the small scattered patches of green tide algae were first observed along the Porphyra agriculture area of the Subei Shoal in late *** this study,we attempted to identify the role of eutrophication in the origin of the green tide in the Subei Shoal and its adjacent *** Shoal and its adjacent area are characterized by rich nutrients,especially NO_(3)^(-)-N,NH_(4)^(+)-N,PO_(4)^(3-)-P,and other bioavailable components(such as urea-N and amino acids).In the spring of 2017,the average concentrations of NO_(3)^(-)-N were 19.01±11.01μmolL^(-1),accounting for 86.68%of the dis-solved inorganic nitrogen(DIN).In addition,the average concentration of NH4^(+)-N was 2.51±1.60μmolL^(-1).PO_(4)^(3-)-P had an average concentration of 0.14±0.13μ*** average concentrations of urea-N and total hydrolyzed amino acids(THAA)were 1.73±1.36μmolL^(-1)and 1.33±0.80μmolL^(-1),*** nutritive substances play a key role in the rapid production of *** and make the Jiangsu coastal water an incubator for green tide.
