Deepsea mining has been proposed since the 1960s to alleviate the lack of resources on *** hydraulic transport of collected ores from the seabed to the sea surface is considered the most promising method for industrial *** the present study,an indoor model test of the vertical hydraulic transport of particles was conducted.A noncontact optical method has been proposed to measure the local characteristics of the particles inside a vertical pipe,including the local concentration and particle *** hydraulic gradient of ore transport was evaluated with various particle size distributions,particle densities,feeding concentrations and mixture flow *** transport,the local concentration is larger than the feeding concentration,whereas the particle velocity is less than the mixture *** qualitative effects of the local concentration and local fluid velocity on the particle velocity and slip velocity were *** local fluid velocity contributes significantly to particle velocity and slip velocity,whereas the effect of the local concentration is marginal.A higher feeding concentration and mixture flow velocity result in an increased hydraulic *** effect of the particle size gradation is slight,whereas the particle density plays a crucial role in the transport.

Multi-Scale Feature Fusion Model for Bridge Appearance Defect Detection

Although the Faster Region-based Convolutional Neural Network(Faster R-CNN)model has obvious advantages in defect recognition,it still cannot overcome challenging problems,such as time-consuming,small targets,irregular shapes,and strong noise interference in bridge defect *** deal with these issues,this paper proposes a novel Multi-scale Feature Fusion(MFF)model for bridge appearance disease ***,the Faster R-CNN model adopts Region Of Interest(ROl)pooling,which omits the edge information of the target area,resulting in some missed detections and inaccuracies in both detecting and localizing bridge ***,this paper proposes an MFF based on regional feature Aggregation(MFF-A),which reduces the missed detection rate of bridge defect detection and improves the positioning accuracy of the target ***,the Faster R-CNN model is insensitive to small targets,irregular shapes,and strong noises in bridge defect detection,which results in a long training time and low recognition ***,a novel lightweight MFF(namely MFF-L)model for bridge appearance defect detection using a lightweight network EfficientNetV2 and a feature pyramid network is proposed,which fuses multi-scale features to shorten the training speed and improve recognition ***,the effectiveness of the proposed method is evaluated on the bridge disease dataset and public computational fluid dynamic dataset.

Experimental investigation of the inhibition of deep-sea mining sediment plumes by polyaluminum chloride

Deep-sea sediment disturbance may occur when collecting polymetallic nodules,resulting in the creation of plumes that could have a negative impact on the ecological *** study aims to investigate the potential solution of using polyaluminum chloride(PAC)in the water *** effects of PAC are examined through a self-designed simulation system for deep-sea polymetallic nodule collection and sediment samples from a potential deep-sea mining *** experimental results showed that the optimal PAC dose was found to be 0.75 g/*** with the test conditions without the addition of PAC,the presence of PAC leads to a reduction in volume,lower characteristic turbidity,smaller diffusion velocity,and shorter settling time of the *** indicates that PAC inhibits the entire development process of the *** addition of PAC leads to the flocculation of mm-sized particles,resulting in the formation of cm-sized *** flocculation of particles decreases the rate of erosion on the seabed by around 30%.This reduction in erosion helps to decrease the formation of ***,when the size of suspended particles increases,it reduces the scale at which they ***,the settling velocity of flocs(around 10^(-2) m/s)is much higher that of compared to sediment particles(around 10^(-5) m/s),which effectively reduces the amount of time the plume remains in suspension.
