Numerous studies have identified many specific structural alterations in the brains of patients with schizophrenia and depression. Schizophrenia is associated with gray matter volume （GMV） impairment in certain key brain regions, which progresses in the first 2-3 years after the first episode of schizophrenic symptoms,m Schizophrenia has also been shown to be associated with concurrent white matter （WM） alterations. The fasciculus uncinatus and arcuate fasciculus have been proposed to be a part of the quality index for schizophrenia.12j Similar to schizophrenia, major depressive disorder （MDD） is associated with a GMV reduction and aberrant WM. GMV reductions in the bilateral middle temporal gyrus left ventral medial prefrontal gyrus, left lingual gyms, and dorsal medial prefrontal gyrus have been correlated with the severity of the depressive symptoms. Schizophrenic and depressive symptoms usually coexist in schizophrenia and MDD. In this pilot study, we compared the GMV and WM differences in the brains of chronic schizophrenia patients with depressive symptoms with those of chronic depression patients with psychotic symptoms.

Background： As medication does not normalize outcomes of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder （ADHD）, especially in real-life functioning, nonpharmacological methods are important to target this field. This randomized controlled clinical trial was designed to evaluate the effects of a comprehensive executive skill training program for school-aged children with ADHD in a relatively large sample. Methods： The children （aged 6-12 years） with ADHD were randomized to the intervention or waitlist groups. A healthy control group was composed of gender- and age-matched healthy children. The intervention group received a 12-session training program lbr multiple executive skills. Executive function （EF）, ADHD symptoms, and social functioning in the intervention and waitlist groups were evaluated at baseline and the end of the final training session. The healthy controls （HCs） were only assessed once at baseline. Repeated measures analyses of variance were used to compare EF, ADHD symptoms, and social function between intervention and waitlist groups. Results： Thirty-eight children with ADH D in intervention group, 30 in waitlist group, and 23 healthy children in healthy control group were included in final analysis. At posttreatment, intervention group showed significantly lower Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function （BRIEF） total score （135.89 ±16.80 vs. 146.09 ± 23.92, P = 0.04） and monitoring score （18.05 ± 2.67 vs. 19.77 ± 3.10, P = 0.02）, ADHD-IV overall score （41.11 ± 7.48 vs. 47.20 ± 8.47, P 〈 0.01 ）, hyperactivity-impulsivity （HI） subscale score （ 18.92 ± 5.09 vs. 21.93 ± 4.93, P = 0.02）, and inattentive subscale score （22.18 ±3.56 vs. 25.27± 5.06, P 〈 0.01 ）, compared with the waitlist group. Repeated measures analyses of variance revealed significant interactions between time and group on the BRIEF inhibition subscale （F = 5.06, P 0.03）, working memory （F- 4.48, P = 0.04）, A DH D-IV overall score （F = 21.72, P 〈 0.01）, HI subscale score （F = 19.08, P 〈 0.01）, and inattentive subscale sc

Tetrahedral DNA nanostructures(TDNs)are molecules with a pyramidal structure formed by folding four single strands of DNA based on the principle of base pairing.Although DNA has polyanionic properties,the special spatial structure of TDNs allows them to penetrate the cell membrane without the aid of transfection agents in a caveolin-dependent manner and enables them to participate in the regulation of cellular processes without obvious toxic side effects.Because of their stable spatial structure,TDNs resist the limitations imposed by nuclease activity and innate immune responses to DNA.In addition,TDNs have good editability and biocompatibility,giving them great advantages for biomedical applications.Previous studies have found that TDNs have a variety of biological properties,including promoting cell migration,proliferation and differentiation,as well as having anti-inflammatory,antioxidant,anti-infective and immune regulation capabilities.Moreover,we confirmed that TDNs can promote the regeneration and repair of skin,blood vessels,muscles and bone tissues.Based on these findings,we believe that TDNs have broad prospects for application in wound repair and regeneration.This article reviews recent progress in TDN research and its applications.

Schizophrenia is a severe and complex mental disorder 111.Neuroimaging offers a powerful window for identifying the brain biomarkers and investigating the neuropathological mechanisms of psychiatric disorders.A study led by Professors Jiang and Liu,published recently in Nature Medicine,developed a new neuroimaging biomarker to characterize striatal dysfunction based on a multi-site functional MRI dataset with>1000 individuals.They show that this biomarker can distinguish individuals with schizophrenia and predict the short-term effects of antipsychotic treatmem[2].

For decades,memory research has centered on the role of neurons,which do not function in isolation.However,astrocytes play important roles in regulating neuronal recruitment and function at the local and network levels,forming the basis for information processing as well as memory formation and storage.In this review,we discuss the role of astrocytes in memory functions and their cellular underpinnings at multiple time points.We summarize important breakthroughs and controversies in the field as well as potential avenues to further illuminate the role of astrocytes in memory processes.

The catechol-O-methyltransferase（COMT） gene is a schizophrenia susceptibility gene. A common functional polymorphism of this gene,Val158/158 Met,has been proposed to influence gray matter volume（GMV）. However,the effects of this polymorphism on cortical thickness/surface area in schizophrenic patients are less clear. In this study,we explored the relationship between the Val158 Met polymorphism of the COMT gene and the GMV/ cortical thickness/cortical surface area in 150 firstepisode treatment-nave patients with schizophrenia and 100 healthy controls. Main effects of diagnosis were found for GMV in the cerebellum and the visual,medial temporal,parietal,and middle frontal cortex. Patients with schizophrenia showed reduced GMVs in these regions. And main effects of genotype were detected for GMV in the left superior frontal gyrus. Moreover,a diagnosis × genotype interaction was found for the GMV of the left precuneus,and the effect of the COMT gene on GMV was due mainly to cortical thickness rather than cortical surface area. In addition,a pattern ofincreased GMV in the precuneus with increasing Met dose found in healthy controls was lost in patients with schizophrenia. These findings suggest that the COMTMet variant is associated with the disruption of dopaminergic influence on gray matter in schizophrenia,and the effect of the COMT gene on GMV in schizophrenia is mainly due to changes in cortical thickness rather than in cortical surface area.
