Platelet-albumin-bilirubin score - a predictor of outcome of acute variceal bleeding in patients with cirrhosis

Thrombospondin-1 Levels in Patients with Coronary Heart Disease

Background: Thrombospondin-1 (TSP1) is associated with atherosclerosis in animals with diabetes mellitus (DM), but the precise role of TSP-1 in human atherosclerosis remains unknown. Objectives: To investigate serum thrombospondin1 level in patients with coronary artery disease with and without type 2 DM and its relationship to coronary artery scoring systems. Methods: The study comprised 180 patients recruited from those underwent coronary angiography for suspected coronary artery disease (CAD) was approved by Institutional Review Board and Institutional Ethical Committee for Human Research of menoufia university hospital. They were divided according to presence of CAD and type 2 DM into 4 groups: Group I (n = 44 patients): Non diabetic subjects without CAD, Group II (n = 40 patients): Diabetic patients without CAD, Group III (n = 49 patients): Non diabetic patients with CAD and Group IV (n = 47 patients): Diabetic patients with CAD. Serum level of TSP-1 was measured in all groups and coronary artery scoring analysis was done. Results: Serum TSP-1 levels were higher in patients with CAD and DM than in other groups (P 0.01) while the levels of serum TSP-1 in diabetic patients without CAD and non-diabetic patients with CAD didn’t show significant difference. The El Minia governorate lies within the Nile Valley,surrounded by calcareous plateaus to the east and *** present study focuses on the hydrogeochemistry of the Eocene limestone aquifer at some wadis in the east El Minia governorate,Eastern Desert,***,two main aquifers are encountered in the study area,namely the Maghagha marly limestone and the Samalut chalky limestone *** Maghagha aquifer is composed of alternating layers of marly limestone and shale with thicknesses ranging from 3.49 m to 177.05 m and a groundwater depth ranging from 8.5 m to 59.27 m which reflects low groundwater *** groundwater salinity representing this aquifer ranges from 603.5 mg/L to 978.5 mg/L,reflecting fresh water *** aquifer is made up of chalky,cavernous and fractured limestone with thickness ranging from 30 m to 205 m and groundwater depth ranging from 9 m to 86.77 m,which indicates good groundwater *** groundwater salinity of the concerned aquifer ranges from 349.7 mg/L to 2043.9 mg/L,reflecting fresh to possibly brackish water *** in the study area is of meteoric water origin;recent recharge is mainly controlled through the presence of fractures and their *** majority of groundwater samples in the study area are suitable for drinking and irrigation purposes.

Effect of speed hump characteristics on pavement condition

Speed humps are the most common type of traffic calming devices due to their low cost and easy installation. However, in many Egyptian roads, considerable number of these humps is randomly placed without proper engineering studies and justifications. Deteri- oration of pavement condition is observed near these humps. This paper presents a case study applied to collect and analyze visual inspection data for the reason of evaluating the impact of speed humps on pavement condition on intercity rural roads. The paper used 52 speed humps located in an intercity two-lane, two-way road that connects two cities, Tahta and Gerga, in Upper Egypt. The total length of this road is about 34 km. Pavement condition index （PCI）, in road sections, near speed humps in the two directions of travel were calculated from the visual inspection measurements. The characteristics of each speed hump （width, height, and distance from preceding hump） were measured. Using statistical analyses, the correlations between the pavement conditions and hump char- acteristics were examined. Regression analysis models were developed to represent the relationships between pavement conditions and hump characteristics. Generally, the re- sults proved that the pavement conditions are greatly influenced by the presence of speed humps and hump characteristics.

Optical Wireless Communication(OWC)is a new trend in communication systems to achieve large bandwidth,high bit rate,high security,fast deployment,and low *** basic idea of the OWC is to transmit data on unguided media with *** system requires multi-carrier modulation such as Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM).This paper studies optical OFDM performance based on Intensity Modulation with Direct Detection(IM/DD)*** system requires a non-negativity *** paper presents a framework for wireless optical OFDM system that comprises(IM/DD)with different forms,Direct Current biased Optical OFDM(DCO-OFDM),Asymmetrically Clipped Optical OFDM(ACO-OFDM),Asymmetrically DC-biased Optical OFDM(ADO-OFDM),and *** also considers channel coding as a tool for error control,channel equalization for reducing deterioration due to channel effects,and investigation of the turbulence *** evaluation results of the proposed framework reveal enhancement of *** performance of the IM/DD-OFDM system is investigated over different channel models such as AWGN,log-normal turbulence channel model,and ceiling bounce channel *** simulation results show that the BER performance of the IM/DD-OFDM communication system is enhanced while the fading strength is *** results reveal also that Hamming codes,BCH codes,and convolutional codes achieve better BER ***,two algorithms of channel estimation and equalization are considered and *** algorithms include the Least Squares(LS)and the Minimum Mean Square Error(MMSE).The simulation results show that the MMSE algorithm gives better BER performance than the LS algorithm.
