Roles of serum uric acid on the association between arsenic exposure and incident metabolic syndrome in an older Chinese population

Growing evidences showed that heavy metals exposure may be associated with metabolic ***,themechanism underlying arsenic(As)exposure and metabolic syndrome(MetS)risk has not been fully *** we aimed to prospectively investigate the role of serum uric acid(SUA)on the association between blood As exposure and incident MetS.A sample of 1045 older participants in a community in China was *** determined As at baseline and SUA concentration at follow-up in the Yiwu Elderly *** events were defined according to the criteria of the International Diabetes Federation(IDF).Generalized linear model with log-binominal regression model was applied to estimate the association of As with incident *** investigate the role of SUA in the association between As andMetS,amediation analysiswas *** the fully adjusted log-binominal model,per interquartile range increment of As,the risk of MetS increased *** with the lowest quartile of As,the adjusted relative risk(RR)of MetS in the highest quartile was 1.42(95%confidence interval,CI:1.03,2.00).Additionally,blood As was positively associated with SUA,while SUA had significant association with MetS *** mediation analysis demonstrated that the association of As and MetS risk was mediated by SUA,with the proportion of 15.7%.Our study found higher As was remarkably associated with the elevated risk of MetS in the Chinese older adults *** analysis indicated that SUA might be a mediator in the association between As exposure and MetS.

Toxic effects in terms of mitochondria and hereditary substances have been characterized in vitro for individual rare earth elements,while,the joint effects of mixed elements exposure in the population remain *** on the Occupational Chromate Exposure Dynamic Cohort of China,this study investigated the relationship between 15 blood rare earth elements(cerium,dysprosium,erbium,europium,gadolinium,holmium,lanthanum,lutetium,neodymium,praseodymium,samarium,terbium,thulium,yttrium,and ytterbium)and mitochondrial DNA copy number(MtDNACN)as well as peripheral blood lymphocyte micronucleus frequency(MNF).The elastic net was used to select elements highly correlated with effect indicators,whose dose-response relationships were further illustrated by restricted cubic *** kernel regressionwas employed to explore the combined effects of elements and the contributions of single *** results showed that most rare earth elementswere positively correlatedwith effect indicators,with yttrium showing the strongest association(β(95%CI):0.139(0.1089–0.189)for MtDNACN,0.937(0.345–1.684)for MNF).In the mixed exposure model,with the exposure level fixed at the 50th percentile as the reference,the effect estimates on MtDNACN and MNF increased by 0.228 and 0.598 units,respectively,at the 75th *** single effect analysis implied that yttrium,lanthanum and terbium contributed the most to the elevation of MtDNACN,while yttrium posed the highest risk for genetic damage,accordingly,we provided recommendations to prioritize these elements of *** addition,we observed a chief mediating effect of MtDNACN on the elevation of MNF caused by lanthanum,whereas further mechanistic exploration is required to confirm this finding.

Berberine Hydrochloride Improves Cognitive Function and Hippocampal Antioxidant Status in Subchronic and Chronic Lead Poisoning

Objective: To determine the neuroprotective effects of berberine hydrochloride(BBR) against lead-induced injuries on the hippocampus of rats. Methods: Wistar rats were exposed orally to doses of 100 and 500 ppm lead acetate for 1 and 2 months to develop subchronic and chronic lead poisening models, *** treatment, BBR(50 mg/kg daily) was injected intraperitoneally to rats poisoned with lead. At the end of the experiment, the spatial learning and memory of rats were assessed using the Morris water maze test. Hippocampal tissue changes were examined by hematoxylin and eosin staining. The activity of antioxidant enzymes catalase,superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and malondialdehyde levels as parameters of oxidative stress and antioxidant status of the hippocampus were evaluated. Results: BBR reduced cognitive impairment in rats exposed to lead(Phealthy cells in the hippocampus of leadexposed rats(P<0.05). Significant changes in tissue morphology and biochemical factors of the hippocampus were observed in rats that received lead for 2 months(P<0.05). Most of these changes were insignificant in rats that received lead for 1 month. Conclusion: BBR can improve oxidative tissue changes and hippocampal dysfunction in lead-exposed rats, which may be due to the strong antioxidant potential of BBR.

BACKGROUND: Targeted temperature management(TTM) is a common therapeutic intervention, yet its cost-effectiveness remains uncertain. This study aimed to evaluate the real-world cost-effectiveness of TTM compared with that of conventional care in adult out-of-hospital cardiac arrest(OHCA) survivors using clinical patient-level ***: We conducted a retrospective cohort study at an academic medical center in the USA to assess the cost-effectiveness of TTM in adult non-traumatic OHCA survivors between 1 January, 2019 and 30 June, 2023. The primary outcome was survival to hospital discharge. Incremental cost-effectiveness ratios(ICERs) were calculated and compared with various decision makers' willingness to pay. Cost-effectiveness acceptability curves were utilized to evaluate the economic attractiveness of TTM. Uncertainty about the incremental cost and effect was explored with a 95% confidence ***: Among 925 non-traumatic OHCA survivors, only 30(3%) received TTM. After adjusting for potential confounders, the TTM group did not demonstrate a significantly lower cost(delta cost-$5,141, 95% confidence interval [95% CI]: $-35,347 to $25,065, P=0.79) and higher survival to hospital discharge(delta effect 6%, 95% CI:-11% to 23%, P=0.41). Additionally, a 95% confidence ellipse indicated uncertainty reflected by evidence that the true value of the ICER could be in any of the quadrants of the cost-effectiveness ***: Although TTM did not demonstrate a clear survival benefit in this study, its potential cost-effectiveness warrants further investigation with larger sample sizes. These findings highlight the need for additional research to optimize TTM use in OHCA care and inform resource allocation decisions.

The concept of synthetic lethality(SL)has been successfully used for targeted *** further explore SL for cancer therapy,identifying more SL interactions with therapeutic potential are ***,graph neural network-based deep learning methods have been proposed for SL prediction,which reduce the SL search space of wet-lab based ***,these methods ignore that most SL interactions depend strongly on genetic context,which limits the application of the predicted *** this study,we proposed a graph recurrent network-based model for specific context-dependent SL prediction(SLGRN).In particular,we introduced a Graph Recurrent Network-based encoder to acquire a context-specific,low-dimensional feature representation for each node,facilitating the prediction of novel *** leveraged gate recurrent unit(GRU)and it incorporated a context-dependent-level state to effectively integrate information from all *** a result,SLGRN outperforms the state-of-the-arts models for SL *** subsequently validate novel SL interactions under different contexts based on combination therapy or patient survival *** in vitro experiments and retrospective clinical analysis,we emphasize the potential clinical significance of this context-specific SL prediction model.

The measurement of amino acid and monoamine neurotransmitters(NTs)in serum plays a central role in the identification and monitoring of clinical panic disorder(PD).However,the strong polarity and chemical heterogeneity of NTs make direct extraction and rapid detection extremely ***,we developed a strategy that integrated solid phase extraction based on magnetic Fe_(3)O_(4)coated with polydopamine(Fe_(3)O_(4)@PDA)and direct analysis of mass spectrometry in real time(DART-MS)for quantification of 10 *** systematically investigated the optimal conditions of this strategy to achieve good accuracy and *** with existing magnetic solid phase extraction methods for NTs detection in biological samples,this strategy could adsorb more targets while having similar adsorption efficiencies,and the total process time was reduced by an average of 69.42%.We rapidly determined the metabolic abnormality of 6 types of NTs in the serum of PD patients and demonstrated their diagnostic *** addition,an outstanding feature of PD in which tryptophan was more metabolized by the KYN pathway and the 5-hydroxytryptamine pathway was inhibited could be elucidated by this *** results highlighted the potential ability of Fe_(3)O_(4)@PDA coupled with DART-MS to assist in the clinical diagnosis of PD.

The Yangtze River economic belt(YREB),China is important to the Chinese economy and for supporting sustainable *** the relationship between water quality indices and socioeconomic indicators could help improve aquatic environment management in the YREB and our understanding of the causes and effects of water quality variations in other large river *** this study,river water quality,factors affecting water quality,and management strategies,and correlations between water quality indices and socioeconomic indicators in the YREB during the 13th Five-Year Plan period(2016-2020)were *** single-factor evaluation method,constant price for GDP,and correlation analyses were *** results showed that:1)water quality in the YREB improved during the 13th Five-Year Plan *** number of aquatic environment sections meeting GradeⅠ-Ⅲwater quality standards increased by 13.1%and the number below Grade V decreased by 2.9%.2)The values of 12 indicators in the YREB exceeded relevant *** indicators with highest concentreation were the total phosphorus,chemical oxygen demand,ammonia nitrogen,and permanganate index,which were relatively high in downstream regions in Anhui Province,Jiangsu Province,and Shanghai Municipality.3)Ammonia nitrogen,chemical oxygen demand,and total phosphorus emissions per unit area and water extraction per unit area are relatively high in the three downstream regions mentioned above.4)Increased domestic sewage discharges have increased total wastewater discharges in the YREB.5)River water quality in the YREB strongly correlated with population,economic,and water resource indices and less strongly correlated with government investment,agriculture,meteorology,energy,and forestry *** confirmed the need to decrease wastewater discharges and non-point-source pollutant *** aquatic environment could be improved by taking reasonable measures to control population growth,adjusting the industrial str

Objective To investigate the associations between eight serum per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances(PFASs)and regional fat depots,we analyzed the data from the National health and Nutrition Examination Survey(NHANES)2011-2018 *** Multiple linear regression models were developed to explore the associations between serum PFAS concentrations and six fat compositions along with a fat distribution score created by summing the concentrations of the six fat *** associations between structurally grouped PFASs and fat distribution were assessed,and a prediction model was developed to estimate the ability of PFAS exposure to predict obesity *** Among females aged 39-59 years,trunk fat mass was positively associated with perfluorooctane sulfonate(PFOS).Higher concentrations of PFOS,perfluorohexane sulfonate(PFHxS),perfluorodecanoate(PFDeA),perfluorononanoate(PFNA),and n-perfluorooctanoate(n-PFOA)were linked to greater visceral adipose tissue in this *** men,exposure to total perfluoroalkane sulfonates(PFSAs)and long-chain PFSAs was associated with reductions in abdominal fat,while higher abdominal fat in women aged 39-59 years was associated with short-chain *** prediction model demonstrated high accuracy,with an area under the curve(AUC)of 0.9925 for predicting obesity *** PFAS exposure is associated with regional fat distribution,with varying effects based on age,sex,and PFAS *** findings highlight the potential role of PFAS exposure in influencing fat depots and obesity risk,with significant implications for public *** prediction model provides a highly accurate tool for assessing obesity risk related to PFAS exposure.
