An ethnobotanical study of medicinal plants in Güce district,north-eastern Turkey

This study aims to identify medicinal plants traditionally used to treat diseases by local people living in Güce district,north-eastern *** study was carried out between 2018 and 2021 using a two-part semi-structured,open-ended questionnaire with 165 local *** were analysed using use-report,frequency of citation,and informant consensus *** identified 128 vascular medicinal plant taxa belonging to 54 families and 106 *** most common plant taxa belong to Rosaceae(16 taxa/12.5%),Asteraceae(12 taxa/9.4%),and Lamiaceae(9 taxa/7%)*** most frequently used preparation method reported was decoction(39.8%);the most commonly utilized plant parts were leaves(40.3%).Statistical analysis reveals that women in Güce district(df?163,p?0.043medicinal plants for the first time,and documented a total of 293 new therapeutic ***,the study indicates that the transfer of traditional knowledge to future generations is limited(F?3.355,p?0.020).Action should be taken as soon as possible to preserve existing traditional knowledge and to ensure its transfer to future generations.

Objective: To evaluate the susceptibility of Mycobacterium aurum and Mycobacterium smegmatis in vitro to the essential oils obtained from two medicinal plants: Thymus satureioides(T. satureioides) and Mentha pulegium(M. pulegium), and to study their chemical ***: The aerial parts of T. satureioides and M. pulegium(leaves and stems) were hydro-distillated using a Clevenger-type apparatus and essential oils were analyzed and identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Antimycobacterial screening of essential oils was performed on the basis of the inhibition zone diameter by disc diffusion method against two mycobacterial strains whereas the minimal inhibitory concentration and minimal bactericidal concentration were determined by using the micro-dilution ***: Chemical analysis of their aerial part's essential oils gave as major compounds,borneol(34.26%), carvacrol(31.21%) and thymol(3.71%) for T. satureioides and R(+)-pulegone(75.48%), carvone(6.66%) and dihydrocarvone(4.64%) for M. *** their antimycobacterial effect evaluation, using the micro-dilution method,indicated that minimal inhibitory concentration values of T. satureioides essential oil ranged from 0.062% to 0.015%(v/v) and from 0.125% to 0.031%(v/v) for M. pulegium respectively against Mycobacterium aurum and Mycobacterium ***: It is clearly evident from the results obtained that the Moroccan medicinal plants have great potential to be used as anti-tuberculosis agents. These findings may help scientists to undertake several research projects to discover useful natural product as new anti-tuberculosis drug.

Antitumor and antimicrobial activities of endophytic fungi from medicinal parts of Aquilaria sinensis

The purpose of this study was to isolate and characterize endophytic fungi from the stem tissue which can produce fragrant ingredients in Aquilaria sinensis(also called agarwood) to determine their antitumor and antimicrobial ***-eight fungal endophytes were isolated from agarwood by strict sterile sample preparation and were classified into 14 genera and 4 taxonomic classes(Sordariomycetes,Dothideomycetes,Saccharomycetes,and Zy-gomycetes) based on molecular *** the 28 isolates,13(46.4%) showed antimicrobial activity against at least one of the test strains by the agar well diffusion method,and 23 isolates(82.1%) displayed antitumor activity against at least one of five cancer cell lines by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide(MTT) *** diameters of inhibition zones of YNAS07,YNAS14,HNAS04,HNAS05,HNAS08,and HNAS11 were equal to or higher than 14.0 mm against Staphylococcus aureus,Escherichia coli,Bacillus subtilis,***,Aspergillus fumigatus,and ***,*** inhibition rates of YNAS06,YNAS08,and HNAS06 were not less than 60% to 293-T,293-T,and SKVO3 cells,*** results suggest that the endophytic fungi associated with agarwood will provide us with not only useful micro-ecological information,but also potential antimicrobial and anti-tumor agents.

This paper reports a pharmacophylogenetic study of a medicinal plant family,Ranunculaceae,investigating the correlations between their phylogeny,chemical constituents,and pharmaceutical ***,ethnopharmacological,and pharmacological data were integrated in the context of the systematics and molecular phylogeny of the *** chemical components of this family included several representative metabolic groups:benzylisoquinoline alkaloids,ranunculin,triterpenoid saponin,and diterpene alkaloids,among *** and magnoflorine were found to coexist in some *** pharmacophylogenetic analysis,integrated with therapeutic information,agreed with the taxonomy proposed previously,in which the family Ranunculaceae was divided into five sub-families:Ranunculoideae,Thalictroideae,Coptidoideae,Hydrastidoideae,and *** was plausible to organize the sub-family Ranunculoideae into ten *** chemical constituents and therapeutic efficacy of each taxonomic group were reviewed,revealing the underlying connections between phylogeny,chemical diversity,and clinical use,which should facilitate the conservation and sustainable utilization of the pharmaceutical resources derived from the Ranunculaceae.

Objective: To screen Vietnamese medicinal plants for xanthine oxidase(XO) inhibitory activity and to isolate XO inhibitor(s) from the most active plant. Methods: The plants materials were extracted by methanol. The active plant materials were fractionated using different organic solvents, including n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and n-butanol. Bioassay-guided fractionation and column chromatography were used to isolate compounds. The compounds structures were elucidated by analysis of spectroscopic data, including IR, MS, and NMR. Results: Three hundreds and eleven methanol extracts(CME) belonging to 301 Vietnamese herbs were screened for XO inhibitory activity. Among these plants, 57 extracts displayed XO inhibitory activity at 100 μg/m L with inhibition rates of over 50%. The extracts of Archidendron clypearia, Smilax poilanei, Linociera ramiflora and Passiflora foetida exhibited the greatest potency with IC_(50) values below 30 μg/m L. Chemical study performed on the extract of Archidendron clypearia resulted in the isolation of six compounds, including 1-octacosanol, docosenoic acid, daucosterol, methyl gallate, quercitrin and(-)-7-O-galloyltricetiflavan. The compound(-)-7-O-galloyltricetiflavan showed the most potent XO inhibitory activity with an IC_(50) value of 25.5 μmol/L. Conclusions: From this investigation, four Vietnamese medicinal plants were identified to have XO inhibitory effects with IC_(50) values of the methanol extracts below 30 μg/m L. Compound(-)-7-O-galloyltricetiflavan was identified as an XO inhibitor from Archidendron clypearia with IC_(50) value of 25.5 μmol/L.

OBJECTIVE： To review the pharmacological activities of Peganum harmala L. （R harmala, Nitrariaceae） in traditional Iranian medicine （TIM） and mod- ern phytotherapy. METHODS： Opinions of TIM and modern phytotherapy about safety and acceptable dosage of this plant are discussed. Various medical properties of P. harmala were collected from important TIM references and added to scientific reports derived from modern medical databases like PubMed, Scirus, ScienceDirect and ***： The main medicinal part of the plant is the seed. In TIM resources, this plant possesses vari- ous Pharmacological activities such as carminative, galactagogue, diuretic, emmenagogue, antithrom-botic and analgesic. In modern phytotherapy, R harmala demonstrated numerous medicinal effects including cardiovascular, neurologic, antimicrobial, insecticidal, antineoplasmic, antiproliferative, gastrointestinal and antidiabetic effects. Adverse events such as neuro-sensorial symptoms, visual hallucination, bradycardia, hypotension, agitation, tremors, ataxia, abortion and vomiting cause peo- ple to use this plant cautiously. R harmala is contraindicated during pregnancy, due to its abortive and mutagenic activities. Because of increasing the expression of CYP1A2, 2C19, and 3A4 and inhi- bition of monoamine oxidase, the pharmacokinetic parameters of drugs which are mainly metabolized by these enzymes may be affected by R har- mala. CONCLUSION： The medicinal properties declared for this plant in TIM are compared with those showed in modern phytotherapy. Some of the TIM properties were confirmed in modern phytotherapy like emetic and analgesic activities and some have not been evaluated in modern phytotherapy such as its therapeutic effects on paralysis, epilepsy and numbness. Finally, the current review provides the evidence for other researchers to use TIM properties of P. harmala as an efficacious natural drug. The safety of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) is a major strategic issue that involves human health. With the continuous improvement in disease prevention and treatment, the export of TCM and its related products has increased dramatically in China. However, the frequent safety issues of Chinese medicine have become the ‘bottleneck' impeding the modernization of TCM. It was proved that mycotoxins seriously affect TCM safety; the pesticide residues of TCM are a key problem in TCM international trade; adulterants have also been detected, which is related to market circulation. These three factors have greatly affected TCM safety. In this study, fast, highly effective, economically-feasible and accurate detection methods concerning TCM safety issues were reviewed, especially on the authenticity, mycotoxins and pesticide residues of medicinal materials.
