BACKGROUND: The differential diagnosis between depressive pseudodementia and Alzheimer disease (AD) is a clinical problem, and it is more difficult to diagnose depression in AD. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the incidence and characters of depression in AD patients, and investigate the correlative factors. DESIGN: A randomized controlled study. SETTING: Beijing Geriatrics Hospital. PARTICIPANTS: From October 2005 to July 2006, 34 patients with probable AD were selected from the Department of Dementia, Beijing Geriatrics Hospital according to National Institute of Neurological and Communicative Diseases and Stroke/Alzheimer Disease and Related Disorders Association (NINCDS-ADRDA) criteria for AD. There were 16 males and 18 females, aged 63-85 years. Meanwhile, 30 patients with other chronic neurological disorders (CND) were selected from our hospital as the CND control group, there were 16 males and 14 females, aged 55-85 years, including 18 cases of cerebrovascular sequela, 9 of Parkinson disease and 3 of migraineurs. Another 30 patients with chronic physical diseases (CPD) were enrolled as the CPD control group, there were 15 males and 15 females, aged 57-83 years, including 15 cases of chronic bronchitis, 8 of hypertension and 7 of diabetes mellitus. Besides, 30 physical examinees were enrolled as the healthy control group, including 15 males and 15 females, aged 55-80 years. All the subjects were informed and agreed with the detection. METHODS: ① All the subjects underwent the Hamilton rating scale for depression (HAMD) (24 items) assessment, and the total score < 8 points was regarded as no depression, 8-20 as mild depression, 20-35 as moderate depression, ≥ 35 as severe depression. ② All the AD patients were assessed with Cornell scale for depression in dementia (CSDD) (19 items), and the total score < 8 points was regarded as no depression, and ≥ 8 as depression. LOTUS, a potent blocker of Nogo receptor-1 causing inhibition of axonal growth

Glia-derived axonal growth inhibitory proteins limit functional repair following damage to the adult cen- tral nervous system （CNS）. Nogo proteins, myelin-as- sociated glycoprotein （MAG）, oligodendrocyte myelin glycoprotein （OMgp） and B lymphocyte stimulator （BLyS）, are 4 inhibitors that commonly interact with the neuronal receptor, Nogo receptor-1 （NgR1）, lead- ing to inhibition of axonal growth. Here, we demon- strate that lateral olfactory tract usher substance （LOTUS） binds to NgR1 and blocks the binding of all four ligands to NgR1, resulting in the suppression of axonal growth inhibition induced by these NgR1 li- gands. LOTUS allows neurons to overcome NgRl-me- diated axonal growth inhibition, raising the possibility that LOTUS may be useful in future therapeutic ap- proaches as an endogenous potent inhibitor of NgR1 for promoting neuronal regeneration.

Obstructive jaundice （O J） is classified as extrahepatic OJ or intrahepatic OJ. Extrahepatic OJ is attributed to a variety of intricate etiological factors. Research has begun with Chinese medicine （CM）, which can be used as an adjunctive therapy for extrahepatic OJ. Particular attention has been paid to the therapeutic effects and their mechanisms of single CM herb and relevant extracts. The roles of single CM or their extracts during adjunctive therapy for extrahepatic OJ have been described briefly, This review focuses on the effects and their mechanisms of relevant herbal medicines.

Ischemic stroke susceptibility gene in a Northern Han Chinese population

Interleukin-18 gene promoter polymorphisms are potential risk factors for ischemic cerebrovascular disease, and the –607C allele may increase ischemic stroke risk in the Han Chinese population. In the present study, we recruited 291 patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease from the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University medical College, China, and 226 healthy controls. Both patients and controls were from the Han population in northern China. Immunoresonance scattering assays detected increased serum amyloid A protein, C-reactive protein, and interleukin-18 levels in ischemic cerebrovascular disease patients compared with healthy controls. Analysis of the –607C/A （rs1946518） polymorphism in the interleukin-18 gene promoter showed ischemic cerebrovascular disease patients exhibited increased frequencies of the CC genotype and C alleles than healthy controls. Genotype and allele frequencies of the interleukin-18 –137G/C （rs187238） polymorphism and the –13T/C （rs11024595） polymorphism in the 5＇-flanking region of serum amyloid A, showed no significant difference between the two groups. Multivariate logistic regression analysis on the interleukin-18 promoter A/C genetic locus, for correction of age, gender, history of smoking, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hypercholesteremia, and an ischemic stroke family history, showed ischemic cerebrovascular disease risk in individuals without the A allele （C homozygotes） was 2.2-fold greater than in A allele carriers. Overall, our findings suggest that the –13T/C （rs11024595） polymorphism in the 5′-flanking region of serum amyloid A has no correlation with ischemic cerebrovascular disease, but the C allele of the –607C/A （rs1946518） polymorphism in the interleukin-18 promoter is a high-risk factor for ischemic cerebrovascular disease in the Han population of northern China. In addition, the A allele is likely a protective gene for ischemic cerebrovascular disease.

S100A8 mediates the activation of P65/HLA-B/S100A8/BCL-2/Caspase-9 (-3) pathway in laryngeal carcinogenesis

S100 calcium binding protein A8 (S100A8),a possible novel member of NF-kappa B signal pathway in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC),interacts with human leukocyte antigen B (HLA-B) which carries an NF-kappa B binding site within the enhancer A. The objective of this study was to explore the molecular mechanism of S100A8 in laryngeal carcinogenesis. RT-PCR,Western blotting and immuno-histochemistry staining were applied to evaluate the expression levels of IKKα,P65,REL-B,S100A8,APAF-1 and BCL-2 genes. The signal transduction passway in which S100A8 might participate was explored by RNA interference. Flow cytometry,TUNEL assay and cell invasion in vitro were used to detect the biological behavior of Hep2 cells induced by S100A8 gene. Our results showed that high expression of S100A8 was related to tumorigenesis in LSCC and negatively correlated with the degree of differentiation,indicating that S100A8 gene could inhibit apoptosis and promote metastasis in LSCC. Additionally,the suppression of S100A8 by RNA interference down-regulated BCL-2 but not APAF-1,P65 and IKKα,while,the suppression of P65 could significantly down-regulate the expression of S100A8 gene. In conclusion,S100A8 plays an important role in P65/HLA-B/S100A8/BCL-2/Caspase-9 (-3) pathway in laryngeal carcinoma.

Analysis of the Current Situation and Influencing Factors of Psychological Well-Being of Elderly People in the Community

Objective:To investigate the current psychological well-being of older people in the community and analyze its influencing ***:A total of 265 community-dwelling older adults aged 60 and above in Baoding City,Hebei Province,were selected through convenience sampling from November 2023 to March *** were surveyed using a general information questionnaire and a comprehensive well-being questionnaire,with results analyzed statistically using SPSS ***:Six dimensions of the psychological well-being scale for community older adults were identified:life vitality(P50=4.83),health concern(P50=4.6),self-worth(P50=5.6),friendly relationships(P50=5.33),altruistic behavior(P50=5.2),personality growth(P50=4.67),and comprehensive well-being(P50=161).Multivariate regression analysis showed that social isolation(β=-0.021,P<0.001),type of work(β=-0.142,P<0.001),chronic disease history(β=0.004,P<0.001),need for mobility aid(β=0.192,P<0.001),and monthly income(β=0.381,P<0.001)were factors influencing psychological ***:The psychological well-being of the elderly is slightly above moderate and requires *** factors such as reducing social isolation,addressing chronic disease history,and improving financial support could improve psychological well-being in older adults.

Short- and long-term effect of complete versus culprit-only revascularization in patients undergoing primary PCI for multivessel disease： a meta-analysis

Objective The optimal strategy during primary percutaneous coronary intervention （PCI） in patients with acute myocardial infarction and multivessel disease is still controversial. Therefore, the aim of our study is to evaluate the short- and long-term effect of complete revas- cularization （CR） versus infarct-related artery revascularization （IR） following primary PCI. Methods We identified randomized controlled studies （RCTs） by systematic search of PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, *** Website, Cochrane Library and Google scholar Database. Primary outcome was major adverse cardiac events （MACE）. Result Nine RCTs （2198 patients） with mean follow-up of 21.1 months were retrieved. Overall, CR was associated with significantly lower risk of MACE compared with IR therapy when followed by long-term duration （≥ 12 months）（RR： 0.56; 95% Ch 0.47-0.68; I^2 = 58.5%）. Additionally, CR was associated with equivalent rates of all-cause mortality （RR： 0.76; 95% CI： 0.53-1.08; I^2= 0.0%） and myocardial infarction （RR： 0.81; 95% CI： 0.57-1.16; I^2= 26.4%） compared with control. Meanwhile, risk of stroke was similar between groups （RR： 0.73; 95% CI： 0.24-2.19; I^2= 0.0%）. However, rates of cardiac death and target vessel revascularization were significantly decreased in the CR group （RR： 0.41; 95% CI： 0.23-0.72; I^2 = 0.0% and RR： 0.46; 95% CI： 0.37-0.57; I^2= 47.4%）. Conclusion Complete revascularization appears to have long-term clinical benefit with regard to adverse cardiac events following primary PCI. However, more studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Objective:To characterize modified R-CODOX-M/IVAC-based chemotherapy to lower the severe adverse events in Chinese adult patients with sporadic Burkitt ***:We enrolled a retrospective cohort including 123 adult patients with untreated sporadic Burkitt lymphoma from August 2008 to September 2019 at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer *** studied a dose-modified and long-course R-CODOX-M/IVAC regimen utilizing a low dose of 1.0 g/m2/cycle cyclophosphamide,2 g/m2/cycle methotrexate,4,500 mg/m2/cycle ifosfamide,and 4.0 g/m2/cycle ***-nine patients with low risk disease underwent 4–6 cycles of dose-modified R-CODOX-M-based ***-four patients with high risk disease underwent 6–8 cycles of dose-modified alternating R-CODOX-M/IVAC ***:The objective remission was 87.0%.The event-free survival rate and overall survival at 3 years were 81.2%and 92.1%,*** grade 3–4 adverse events included leukopenia(91.9%),anemia(58.5%),thrombocytopenia(73.2%),and febrile neutropenia(48.8%).A total of 26.0%and 37.4%of patients received red blood cell and platelet transfusions,*** observed 4 cases(3.3%)of septic shock after *** treatment-related deaths occurred from severe ***:The modified R-CODOX-M/IVAC chemotherapy regimen was effective for sporadic Burkitt lymphoma in the Chinese population,with a lower toxicity than standard regimens.
