Four species of Trichodina parasitizing the gills of cultured molluscs and fishes in China are described： Trichodina pectenis stein, 1974 from the scallop Mizuhopecten yessoensis; Trichodinajadranica Raabe, 1958 from the fishes Mugil cephalus and Anguilla bicolor bicolor; Trichodina acuta Lorn, 1961 and Trichodina rostrata Kulemina, 1968 from the fish Acrossocheilusfasciatus. The description of T. pectenis presented here first includes both live characters and morphometric data obtained from specimens impregnated using the wet silver nitrate and protargol methods. The other species were revealed by the dry silver nitrate method. Intensities of infestation and comparisons with related species and populations are provided for each of the four.

Because of the large number and remoteness, satellite data, including microwave data and optical imagery, have commonly been used in alpine glaciers surveys. Using remote sensing and Geographical Information System （GIS） techniques, the paper presents the results of a multitemporal satellite glacier extent mapping and glacier changes by glacier sizes in the Mt. Qomolangma region at the northern slopes of the middle Himalayas over the Tibetan Plateau. Glaciers in this region have both retreated and advanced in the past 35 years, with retreat dominating. The glacier retreat area was 3.23 km2 （or o.75 km^2 yr^-1 during 1974 and 1976, 8.68 km^2 （or 0.36 km^2 yr^-1 during 1976 and 1992, 1.44 km^2 （or 0.12 km^2 yr^-1） during 1992-2ooo. 1.14 km^2 （or 0.22 km^2 yr^-1 during 2000-2003, and 0.52 km^2 （or 0.07 km^2 yr^-1 during 2003-2008, respectively. While supra-glacier lakes on the debris-terminus of the Rongbuk Glacier were enlarged dramatically at the same time, from 0.05 km^2 in 1974 increased to 0.71 km^2 in 2008, which was more than 13 times larger in the last 35 years. In addition, glacier changes also showed spatial differences, for example, glacier retreat rate was the fastest at glacier termini between 5400 and 5700 m a.s.l than at other elevations. The result also shows that glaciers in the middle Himalayas retreat almost at a same pace with those in the western Himalayas.

Bone density, microarchitecture and stiffness in Caucasian and Caribbean Hispanic postmenopausal American women

Hispanic Americans of Caribbean origin are a fast-growing subset of the US population, but there are no studies on bone density, microstructure and biomechanical integrity in this minority group. In this study, we aimed to compare Caucasian and Caribbean Hispanic postmenopausal American women with respect to these characteristics. Thirty-three Caribbean Hispanics were age-matched to thirty-three Caucasian postmenopausal women. At the lumbar spine, the Hispanic women had significantly lower areal bone mineral density （aBMD）. At the radius by high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography （HR-pQCT）, there were minimal differences between Hispanic and Caucasian women. At the tibia, Hispanic women had lower trabecular volumetric bone density and trabecular number, and higher trabecular separation. Individual trabecula segmentation （ITS） analyses indicated that at the tibia, Hispanic women not only had significantly lower bone volume fraction, but also had significantly lower rod bone volume fraction, plate trabecular number, rod trabecular number and lower plate-plate, plate-rod and rod-rod junction densities compared to Caucasian women. The differences in bone quantity and quality contributed to lower whole bone stiffness at the radius, and both whole bone and trabecular bone stiffness at the tibia in Hispanic women. In conclusion, Hispanic women had poorer bone mechanical and microarchitectural properties than Caucasian women, especially at the load-bearing distal tibia.

Metasurfaces are optically thin metamaterials that promise complete control of the wavefront of light but are primarily used to control only the phase of ***,we present an approach,simple in concept and in practice,that uses meta-atoms with a varying degree of form birefringence and rotation angles to create high-efficiency dielectric metasurfaces that control both the optical amplitude and phase at one or two *** opens up applications in computer-generated holography,allowing faithful reproduction of both the phase and amplitude of a target holographic scene without the iterative algorithms required in phase-only *** demonstrate all-dielectric metasurface holograms with independent and complete control of the amplitude and phase at up to two optical frequencies simultaneously to generate two-and three-dimensional holographic *** show that phaseamplitude metasurfaces enable a few features not attainable in phase-only holography;these include creating artifactfree two-dimensional holographic images,encoding phase and amplitude profiles separately at the object plane,encoding intensity profiles at the metasurface and object planes separately,and controlling the surface textures of three-dimensional holographic objects.

The purpose of this application paper is to apply the stein-Chen (SC) method to provide a Poisson-based approximation and corresponding total variation distance bounds in a time series context. The SC method that is used approximates the probability density function (PDF) defined on how many times a pattern such as It,It+1,It+2 = {1 0 1} occurs starting at position t in a time series of length N that has been converted to binary values using a threshold. The original time series that is converted to binary is assumed to consist of a sequence of independent random variables, and could, for example, be a series of residuals that result from fitting any type of time series model. Note that if {1 0 1} is known to not occur, for example, starting at position t = 1, then this information impacts the probability that {1 0 1} occurs starting at position t = 2 or t = 3, because the trials to obtain {1 0 1} are overlapping and thus not independent, so the Poisson distribution assumptions are not met. Nevertheless, the results shown in four examples demonstrate that Poisson-based approximation (that is strictly correct only for independent trials) can be remarkably accurate, and the SC method provides a bound on the total variation distance between the true and approximate PDF.

Let(X,ρ,μ)be a space of homogeneous type in the sense of Coifman and Weiss,and Y(X)a ball quasi-Banach function space on X,which supports both a Fefferman–stein vector-valued maximal inequality and the boundedness of the powered Hardy–Littlewood maximal operator on its associate *** authors first introduce the Hardy space H_(Y)(X)associated with Y(X),via the Lusin-area function,and then establish its various equivalent characterizations,respectively,in terms of atoms,molecules,and Littlewood–Paley g-functions and g_(λ)^(*)-*** an application,the authors obtain the boundedness of Calderón–Zygmund operators from H_(Y)(X)to Y(X),or to H_(Y)(X)via first establishing a boundedness criterion of linear operators on H_(Y)(X).All these results have a wide range of generality and,particularly,even when they are applied to variable Hardy spaces,the obtained results are also *** major novelties of this article exist in that,to escape the reverse doubling condition ofμand the triangle inequality ofρ,the authors subtly use the wavelet reproducing formula,originally establish an admissible molecular characterization of H_(Y)(X),and fully apply the geometrical properties of X expressed by dyadic reference points or dyadic cubes.
