Background and purpose There is limited nationwide evidence about the standard management characteristics of stroke types and prognosis in *** study aimed to assess clinical characteristics,in-hospital and after-discharge management characteristics and prognosis for stroke types in *** A nationwide registry recruited 14244 imaging-confirmed first-ever incident strokes from 132 hospitals across 31 provinces of China during 2007-2008,recording presenting characteristics,diagnostic procedures and in-hospital *** hospital discharge,patients were followed up for 6 *** statistical methods were used to examine the patterns of management and *** Overall,68.7%,26.9%and 4.4%were ischaemic stroke(IS),intracerebral haemorrhage(ICH),and subarachnoid haemorrhage(SAH),*** 20%were managed in a dedicated stroke *** IS,1.3%received thrombolysis within 3 hours after symptom onset,whereas the proportions of receiving in-hospital antiplatelet therapy,neuroprotective agents and traditional Chinese medicines(TCM)were 88.4%,69.7%and 70.6%,*** ICH,63.3%and 36.3%received neuroprotective agents and TCM in hospital,*** discharge,70.7%and 38.0%of the patients with IS were given antiplatelet and statin therapies,respectively,decreasing to 64.8%and 23.9%,respectively,at 6 ***-hospital mortality was 3.2%,9.3%and 10.1%for IS,ICH and SAH,respectively,with a further 8.6%,18.2%and 22.0%,respectively,died by 6 ***,in-hospital recurrence rate was 2.6%,1.9%and 7.2%for IS,ICH and SAH,respectively,with a further 8.0%,5.1%and 7.5%,respectively,recurred by 6 *** In China,the mortality rate of stroke is lower than that reported from west populations,though most strokes are not managed in specialised stroke *** is widespread use of some unproven therapies but limited proven treatments,especially after discharge,leading to unnecessary recurrent risks.

The prostate secretory protein of 94 amino acids （PSP94） has been shown to interact with cysteine-rich secretory protein 3 （CRISP-3） in human seminal plasma. Interestingly, PSP94 expression is redaced or lost in the majority of the prostate tumours, whereas CRISP-3 expression is upregulated in prostate cancer compared with normal prostate tissue. To obtain a better understanding of the individual roles these proteins have in prostate tumourigenesis and the functional relevance of their interaction, we ectopically expressed either PSP94 or CRISP-3 alone or PSP94 along with CRISP-3 in three prostate cell lines （PC3, WPE1-NB26 and LNCaP） and performed growth inhibition assays. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and Western blot analysis were used to screen prostate cell lines for PSP94 and CRISP-3 expression. Mammalian expression constructs for human PSP94 and CRISP-3 were also generated and the expression, localization and secretion of recombinant protein were assayed by transfection followed by Western blot analysis and immunofluorescence assay. The effect that ectopic expression of PSP94 or CRISP-3 had on cell growth was studied by clonogenic survival assay follokving transfection. To evaluate the effects of coexpression of the two proteins, stable clones of PC3 that expressed PSP94 were generated. They were subsequently transfected with a CRISP-3 expression construct and subjected to clonogenic survival assay. Our results showed that PSP94 and CRISP-3 could each induce growth inhibition in a cell line specific manner. Although the growth of CRISP-3-positive cell lines was inhibited by PSP94, growth inhibition mediated by CRISP-3 was not affected by the presence or absence of PSP94. This suggests that CRISP-3 may participate in PSP94-independent activities during prostate tumourigenesis.

Considerable efforts have been made to develop a male contraceptive and the studies have provided very useful infor-mation in this field. At least five different strategies to develop a male contraceptive have been pursued, namely: inhi-bition of sperm production, interference with sperm function, interruption of sperm transport, prevention of sperm de-position, and prevention of sperm-egg interaction. Of all these approaches, inhibition of sperm production by using an-drogens either alone or in combination with progestins have given the most encouraging results. A nmnber of clinicaltrials substantiate that it is indeed possible to have a reversible, effective and safe hormonal method of contraception. Apostmeiotic and epididymal approach to interfere with sperm function or the secretory and metabolic processes of theepididymis is another attractive option of male contraceptive development. A number of chemical compounds have beenidentified which interfere with sperm function in the epididymis without affecting sperm production, however, the com-pounds evaluated so far were found to be toxic. Interruption of sperm transport through the vas either by vasectomy orpercutaneous intmvasal injection of liquids which form cure-in-place plugs is also an attractive option. However, re-versibility of the methods is of concern in their wide scale use. The major constraint in developing a long-acting male contraceptive seems to be the need for greater investment forproduct development. The clinical trials for evaluating the efficacy and safety of the new products and formulationsstretch over several years and require enormous financial commitment. Nevertheless, the long-term gain of having along-acting reversible contraceptive for men is far greater than the financial commitments over few years. CTP synthase （CTPsyn） is a metabolic enzyme responsible for the de novo synthesis of the nucleotide CTE Several recent studies have shown that CTPsyn forms filamentous subcellular structures known as cytoophidia in bacteria, yeast, fruit flies and humans. However, it remains elusive whether and how CTPsyn and cytoophidia play a role during development. Here, we show that cytoophidia are abundant in the neuroepithelial stem cells in Drosophila optic lobes. Optic lobes are underdeveloped in CTPsyn mutants as well as in CTPsyn RNAi. Moreover, overexpressing CTPsyn impairs the development of optic lobes, specifically by blocking the transition from neuro- epithelium to neuroblast. Taken together, our results indicate that CTPsyn is critical for optic lobe homeostasis in Drosophila.

Assessment of public perspectives and barriers towards dengue preventive practices using the health Belief Model in Puducherry,India:A cross-sectional study
