Minimalistic approach to left atrial appendage occlusion guided by cardiac computed tomography angiography

OBJECTIVE To assess the feasibility and safety of the minimalistic approach to left atrial appendage occlusion(LAAO) guided by cardiac computed tomography angiography(CCTA).METHODS Ninety consecutive patients who underwent LAAO, with or without CCTA-guided, were matched(1:2). Each step of the LAAO procedure in the computed tomography(CT) guidance group(CT group) was directed by preprocedural CT planning. In the control group, LAAO was performed using the standard method. All patients were followed up for 12 months, and device surveillance was conducted using *** A total of 90 patients were included in the analysis, with 30 patients in the CT group and 60 matched patients in the control group. All patients were successfully implanted with Watchman devices. The mean ages for the CT group and the control group were 70.0 ± 9.4 years and 68.4 ± 11.9 years(P = 0.52), respectively. The procedure duration(45.6 ± 10.7 min vs. 58.8 ± 13.0 min,P < 0.001) and hospital stay(7.5 ± 2.4 day vs. 9.6 ± 2.8 day, P = 0.001) in the CT group was significantly shorter compared to the control group. However, the total radiation dose was higher in the CT group compared to the control group(904.9 ± 348.0 m Gy vs.711.9 ± 211.2 m Gy, P = 0.002). There were no significant differences in periprocedural pericardial effusion(3.3% vs. 6.3%, P = 0.8) between the two groups. The rate of postprocedural adverse events(13.3% vs. 18.3%, P = 0.55) were comparable between both groups at 12 months *** CCTA is capable of detailed LAAO procedure planning. Minimalistic LAAO with preprocedural CCTA planning was feasible and safe, with shortened procedure time and acceptable increased radiation and contras consumption. For patients with contraindications to general anesthesia and/or transesophageal echocardiography, this promising method may be an alternative to conventional LAAO.

Stimulating Start-up Investment Through Government-Sponsored Venture Capital: Theory and Chinese Evidence

Government-sponsored venture capital(GVC) has been used to support financially constrained start-ups as an important policy tool in China. Typically, to motivate the social capital to invest in start-ups, GVC provides subsidies for them to bridge the funding gap in the early-stage venture capital market. However, the effect and mechanism of GVC affecting social capital investment have not been clearly studied. In this paper, the authors not only develop a game model to analyze this issue in theory, but conduct an empirical study by analyzing the 14741 records matched by propensity score matching(PSM) of Chinese venture capital market data from 2011 to 2021. The proposed findings are as the follows. Firstly, the subsidies offered by GVC will simultaneously increase the returns and risks of investments in start-ups of social capital with more volatile incentive effect of GVC. The incentive effect of GVC is only effective when the returns resulting from the subsidies outweigh the risks they introduce. In the context of the Chinese venture capital market, the incentive effect of GVC is effective. Secondly, the incentive effect of GVC is more pronounced in high-tech industries, which can be attributed to the signaling effect facilitated by GVC. In this context, the subsidy mainly helps social capital to bear the costs associated with screening potential investments. Thirdly, the incentive effect of GVC is more significant in underdeveloped venture capital markets, which can be explained by the “virtuous cycle” effect, in which GVC plays a pioneering role in establishing a more robust early-stage market trading system. By examining these three points, this study contributes to a better understanding of how GVC can effectively guide social capital investment, especially in the Chinese landscape.

Adolescent suicide risk factors and the integration of socialemotional skills in school-based prevention programs

Adolescents are considered one of the most vulnerable groups affected by *** changes in adolescents’physical and mental states,as well as in their lives,significantly and undeniably increase the risk of ***,social,family,individual,and environmental factors are important risk factors for suicidal behavior among teenagers and may contribute to suicide risk through various direct,indirect,or combined ***-emotional learning is considered a powerful intervention measure for addressing the crisis of adolescent *** deliberately cultivated,fostered,and enhanced,selfawareness,self-management,social awareness,interpersonal skills,and responsible decision-making,as the five core competencies of social-emotional learning,can be used to effectively target various risk factors for adolescent suicide and provide necessary mental and interpersonal *** numerous suicide intervention methods,school-based interventions based on social-emotional competence have shown great potential in preventing and addressing suicide risk factors in *** characteristics of school-based interventions based on social-emotional competence,including their appropriateness,necessity,cost-effectiveness,comprehensiveness,and effectiveness,make these interventions an important means of addressing the crisis of adolescent *** further determine the potential of school-based interventions based on social-emotional competence and better address the issue of adolescent suicide,additional financial support should be provided,the combination of socialemotional learning and other suicide prevention programs within schools should be fully leveraged,and cooperation between schools and families,society,and other environments should be *** efforts should be considered future research directions.

The great catastrophe: causes of the Permo-Triassic marine mass extinction

The marine losses during the Permo-Triassic mass extinction were the worst ever experienced. All groups were badly affected, especially amongst the benthos(e.g. brachiopods, corals, bryozoans, foraminifers,ostracods). Planktonic populations underwent a fundamental change with eukaryotic algae being replaced by nitrogen-fixing bacteria, green-sulphur bacteria, sulphate-reducing bacteria and prasinophytes. Detailed studies of boundary sections, especially those in South China, have resolved the crisis to a ～55 kyr interval straddling the Permo-Triassic boundary. Many of the losses occur at the beginning and end of this interval painting a picture of a two-phase extinction. Improved knowledge of the extinction has been supported by numerous geochemical studies that allow diverse proposed extinction mechanisms to be studied. A transition from oxygenated to anoxic-euxinic conditions is seen in most sections globally, although the intensity and timing shows regional variability. Decreased ocean ventilation coincides with rapidly rising temperatures and many extinction scenarios attribute the losses to both anoxia and high *** kill mechanisms include ocean acidification for which there is conflicting support from geochemical proxies and, even less likely, siltation(burial under a massive influx of terrigenous sediment) which lacks substantive sedimentological evidence. The ultimate driver of the catastrophic changes at the end of the Permian was likely Siberian Trap eruptions and their associated carbon dioxide emissions with consequences such as warming, ocean stagnation and acidification. ControlService: a containerized solution for control-algorithm-as-a-service in cloud control systems

As an extension of networked control systems, cloud control systems(CCSs) have emerged as a new control paradigm to improve the service quality of emerging control missions, such as data-driven modeling and automated vehicles. Existing studies have used the workflow-based restructured method to optimize the computation-intensive algorithms in the CCSs. However, the challenges here are how to define and submit these algorithms' workflows as cloud services and execute these algorithms' workflows in a containerized manner. Based on these challenges, we propose a containerized solution for the control-algorithm-as-a-service(C3aS) in the CCSs, namely Control Service. It offers the control algorithm as a cloud workflow service and uses a customized workflow engine to realize the containerized execution. First, we employ a cloud workflow representation method to define a control algorithm into an abstract cloud workflow form. Afterward, we provide a cloud service representation of the abstract cloud workflow. Next, we design a workflow engine and submit the cloud service to this workflow engine to implement containerized execution of this cloud service in the CCSs. In the experiment, we discuss the cloud service form and containerized implementation of the subspace identification method. Experimental results show that the proposed Control Service has significant performance advantages in computational time, reduction percentage, and speedup ratio compared with the baseline method.

A novel cylindrical sandwich plate inspired by beetle elytra and its compressive properties

The design and experimental analysis of a semi-cylindrical structure known as the cylindrical beetle elytron plate(CBEP) were presented. Radial compression tests and finite element simulation were performed on CBEPs under 30° and 45° inclined sliding support constraints, with a comparison made to cylindrical honeycomb plate(CHP). The study aims to investigate the superior compression performance and enhancement mechanisms of CBEPs. The results demonstrate that CBEPs exhibit a 14%–26% increase in specific load-bearing capacity and a 20% increase in specific energy absorption compared with CHPs with equal core wall thickness. Distinct “Z-shaped” tearing failures were observed, with honeycomb plates showing tearing at the center of the honeycomb walls, while beetle elytron plates exhibited tearing along the midline of the trabeculae. Three different stress patterns,including elastic-plastic development stage of arch, plastic hinge node stage, and rigid node stage, were identified and analyzed to explain the mechanical performance improvements and failure characteristics. Considering that structural damage to trabeculae mostly occurs at its junction with the skin, it is recommended to add chamfers to the junctions of CBEP. Therefore, this paper lays the groundwork for the engineering application of CBEP.

Development of practical and versatile electrophilic difluoromethylating reagent is still a grand challenge so far due to its inherent instability or low ***,we report the design and synthesis of difluoromethyl phenoxathiinium tetrafluoroborate(PT-CF_(2)H^(+)BF_(4)^(-)) as a novel difluoromethylating reagent,which proves to be a bench-stable,general,powerful and versatile reagent with divergent·CF_(2)H,CF_(2)H^(+),and:CF_(2) *** use of this reagent,we demonstrated a vast array of difluoromethyl radical transfer reactions via diverse pathways involving photocatalyst-free visible-light induction,visible-light photoredox catalysis and visible-light mediation single electron transfer of EDA ***,the green and highly effective CF_(2)H^(+) and:CF_(2) transfer reactions were also readily accomplished.
