Paleoclimatic studies indicate four epochs of global cooling during the last 4 000 years, i.e. during the few centuries before and after 2000 BC, 800 BC, 400 AD, and 1 600 AD; the quasiperiodicity corresponds to cyclic variation of solar activity. Global temperature changes influenced regional precipitation patterns: Northern Europe was wetter while the middle and low latitude lands were more arid during colder epochs. Both sets of cold climatical conditions were unfavorable for agricultural production. Historical records show that large demographic movements in history took place because of crop failures and mass starvation, rather than escaping from war zones. The "wandering" of the Germanic tribes during the first two or three centuries of the Christian Era is one example. Whereas the accelerated release of carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels is ultimately to cause global warming, historical evidence indicates, however, that global warming has been on the whole a blessing to mankind. Global cooling, on the other hand, has curtailed agricultural production and has led to famines and mass migrations of people. Perhaps the most important task at the present is not so much computer modelling of greenhouse effect on global climate, but water management and agricultural researches to insure food supply for an everincreasing world population.

Low-frequency and high-frequency Capacitance-Voltage （C-V） curves of Metal-Oxide- Semiconductor Capacitors （MOSC）, including electron and hole trapping at the dopant donor and acceptor impurities, are presented to illustrate giant trapping capacitances, from 〉 0.01Cox to 〉 10Cox. Five device and materials parameters are varied for fundamental trapping parameter characterization, and electrical and optical signal processing applications. Parameters include spatially constant concentration of the dopant-donor-impurity electron trap, NDD, the ground state electron trapping energy level depth measured from the conduction band edge, Ec - ED, the degeneracy of the trapped electron at the ground state, gD, the device temperature, T, and the gate oxide thickness, xox.

Low-frequency and high-frequency capacitance-voltage curves of Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Capacitors are presented to illustrate giant electron and hole trapping capacitances at many simultaneously present two-charge-state and one-trapped-carrier, or one-energy-level impurity species. Models described include a donor electron trap and an acceptor hole trap, both donors, both acceptors, both shallow energy levels, both deep, one shallow and one deep, and the identical donor and acceptor. Device and material parameters are selected to simu- late chemically and physically realizable capacitors for fundamental trapping parameter characterizations and for electrical and optical signal processing applications.

1 Introduction Among older adults, incidence and prevalence of aortic disease, peripheral arterial disease （PAD）, and venous thromboembolism （VTE） increase as age-related alterations in vascular structure and function are compounded by longer exposure to cardiovascular disease （CVD） risk factors. This review highlights the unique presentations and treatment strategies for aortic dissection, abdominal aortic aneurysm （AAA）, PAD, and VTE in older adults.

Underground mine designs typically try to avoid extraction beneath streams and rivers of any significant size,especially when the overburden rock thickness between the stream bed and the mine is *** issues with mining beneath streams include excessive groundwater inflow to the mine,weak ground(roof,floor,and pillar)conditions,horizontal stress effects,as well as stream loss and other potential adverse environmental ***,there are times when crossing beneath a stream or river is necessary to move into a new area of mineral reserve without creating additional mine access points from the ground ***,stream crossings are completed without thorough assessment,potentially resulting in increased costs,decreased safety,and,in some cases,failure to advance the *** of the most favorable location(s)to cross the stream must account for numerous factors and the associated assessment often requires a multi-disciplinary *** crossing investigations often require geological,hydrogeological,geotechnical,and geophysical *** of stream crossing investigations include desktop evaluation of maps and aerial photography,stream bed observations,drilling,detailed rock core logging,downhole geophysical surveying,hydraulic conductivity testing(packer testing),geotechnical laboratory testing,assessment,and *** deliverables from a stream crossing assessment typically include geological,geotechnical,and hydrogeological characterization of potential stream crossing locations,classification of favorable and unfavorable crossing locations,recommendations for entry design and pillar sizing,and recommendations for if,and how,to conduct pre-grouting *** of technical aspects of data collection and assessment are provided based on decades of industry experience conducting stream crossing assessments in various underground mining scenarios.

Calibration of numerical ages to the geological time scale is a long scientific pursuit that requires the integration of multiple data sets. A case study of the Albian/Cenomanian stage boundary, also the Lower/Upper Cretaceous series boundary, illustrates the calibration process. The numerical age of this boundary has shifted from 96 Ma to 99 Ma over a time span of nearly fifty years. Recalibration resulted first from improvements in radiometric dating, and later from inferences about ammonite phylogeny, and most recently from radiometric dates of newly discovered volcanic beds interbedded with diagnostic guide fossils. However, the calibration process continues with study of cosmopolitan dinoflagellates.
