Cognitive attentional syndrome and metacognitive beliefs as potential treatment targets for metacognitive therapy in bipolar disorder

Research indicates that individuals with schizophrenia recover. Recovery, however means different things to different individuals and regardless of what kind of experiences define recovery, the individual diagnosed with the serious mental illness must feel ownership of their recovery. This raises the issue of how mental health services should systematically promote recovery. This paper explores the practical implications for research on metacognition in schizophrenia for this issue. First, we present the integrated model of metacognition, which defines metacognition as the spectrum of activities which allow individual to have available to themselves an integrated sense of self and others as they appraise and respond to the unique challenges they face. Second, we present research suggesting that many with schizophrenia experience deficits in metacognition and that those deficits compromise individuals' abilities to manage their lives and mental health challenges. Third, we discuss a form of psychotherapy inspired by this research, Metacognitive Reflection and Insight Therapy which assists individuals to recapture the ability to form integrated ideas about themselves and others and so direct their own recovery. The need for recovery oriented interventions to focus on process and on patient's purposes, assess metacognition and consider the intersubjective contexts in which this occurres is discussed.

Background There is a need for biomarkers to support an accurate diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease(PD).Cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)has been a successful biofluid for finding neurodegenerative biomarkers,and modern highly sensitive multiplexing methods offer the possibility to perform discovery *** a large-scale multiplex proximity extension assay(PEA)approach,we aimed to discover novel diagnostic protein biomarkers allowing accurate discrimination of PD from both controls and atypical Parkinsonian disorders(APD).Methods CSF from patients with PD,corticobasal syndrome(CBS),progressive supranuclear palsy(PSP),multiple system atrophy and controls,were analysed with Olink PEA *** cohorts were used in this study,comprising 192,88 and 36 cases,*** samples were run on the Cardiovascular II,Oncology II and Metabolism PEA *** Our analysis revealed that 26 and 39 proteins were differentially expressed in the CSF of test and validation PD cohorts,respectively,compared to *** them,6 proteins were changed in both ***(MK)was increased in PD with the strongest effect size and results were validated with *** most increased protein in PD,DOPA decarboxylase(DDC),which catalyses the decarboxylation of DOPA(L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine)to dopamine,was strongly correlated with dopaminergic ***,Kallikrein 10 was specifically changed in APD compared with both PD and controls,but unchanged between PD and *** inhibitory factor 1 was consistently downregulated in CBS and PSP patients in two independent *** Using the large-scale PEA approach,we have identified potential novel PD diagnostic biomarkers,most notably MK and DDC,in the CSF of PD patients.

Objective Previous studies have shown that meteorological factors may increase COVID-19 mortality,likely due to the increased transmission of the ***,this could also be related to an increased infection fatality rate(IFR).We investigated the association between meteorological factors(temperature,humidity,solar irradiance,pressure,wind,precipitation,cloud coverage)and IFR across Spanish provinces(n=52)during the first wave of the pandemic(weeks 10–16 of 2020).Methods We estimated IFR as excess deaths(the gap between observed and expected deaths,considering COVID-19-unrelated deaths prevented by lockdown measures)divided by the number of infections(SARS-CoV-2 seropositive individuals plus excess deaths)and conducted Spearman correlations between meteorological factors and IFR across the *** We estimated 2,418,250 infections and 43,237 *** IFR was 0.03%in<50-year-old,0.22%in 50–59-year-old,0.9%in 60–69-year-old,3.3%in 70–79-year-old,12.6%in 80–89-year-old,and26.5%in≥*** did not find statistically significant relationships between meteorological factors and adjusted ***,we found strong relationships between low temperature and unadjusted IFR,likely due to Spain’s colder provinces’aging *** The association between meteorological factors and adjusted COVID-19 IFR is *** age differences or ignoring COVID-19-unrelated deaths may severely bias COVID-19 epidemiological analyses.

Relationship between Obsessive-Compulsive Symptoms and Anxiety Levels during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Healthcare Professionals ***-Healthcare Professionals

The present study investigated the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on anxiety levels,contamination and responsibility/control obsessions and associated OC behaviors in healthcare versus non-healthcare *** study also aimed to examine the relationship between anxiety levels and obsessive-compulsive(OC)symptom levels,gender,age,educational level,and personal and family history of chronic *** 664 participants included 395(59.5%)men and 269(40.5%)women and comprised 180(27.1%)healthcare professionals and 484(72.9%)non-healthcare *** survey included three data collection tools:(i)Sociodemographic data form,(ii)Beck Anxiety Inventory(BAI),and(iii)the Dimensional Obsessive-Compulsive Scale Abriged(DOCS-A)pre-and post-pandemic *** BAI scores established a moderate positive correlation with post-pandemic DOCS-A total scores and a weak positive correlation with pre-pandemic DOCS-A total scores(p<0.001 for both).Pre-and post-pandemic DOCS-A total and subdimension scores were significantly higher in women than in men(p<0.05).Participants with a personal history of chronic diseases had higher BAI and DOCS-A scores compared to participants with no such history(p<0.001 and p<0.001,respectively).The results indicated a significant increase in OC symptoms during the pandemic period compared to the pre-pandemic period and a moderate correlation between the anxiety levels and OC symptom *** was also revealed that female gender and personal or family history of chronic diseases posed a higher risk for the increase in anxiety and OC symptoms and healthcare professionals had a higher risk of developing anxiety symptoms compared to non-healthcare professionals.
