Contrasts of bimodal tropical instability waves(TIWs)-induced wind stress perturbations in the Pacific Ocean among observations,ocean models,and coupled climate models

The coupling between wind stress perturbations and sea surface temperature(SST)perturbations induced by tropical instability waves(TIWs)in the Pacific Ocean has been revealed previously and proven crucial to both the atmosphere and ***,an overlooked fact by previous studies is that the loosely defined“TIWs”actually consist of two modes,including the Yanai wave-based TIW on the equator(hereafter eTIW)and the Rossby wave-based TIW off the equator(hereafter vTIW).Hence,the individual feedbacks of the wind stress to the bimodal TIWs remain *** this study,individual coupling relationships are established for both eTIW and v TIW,including the relationship between the TIW-induced SST perturbations and two components of wind stress perturbations,and the relationship between the TIW-induced wind stress perturbation divergence(curl)and the downwind(crosswind)TIW-induced SST *** show that,due to different distributions of eTIW and vTIW,the coupling strength induced by the eTIW is stronger on the equator,and that by the vTIW is stronger off the *** results of any of eTIW and vTIW are higher than those of the loosely defined *** further investigated how well the coupling relationships remained in several widely recognized oceanic general circulation models and fully coupled climate ***,the coupling relationships cannot be well represented in most numerical ***,we confirmed that higher resolution usually corresponds to more accurate ***,the coupling models established in this study are complementary to previous research and can be used to refine the oceanic and coupled climate models.

Laguerre Series Expansion for Scale Functions and Its Applications in Risk Theory

We propose an exact explicit closed-form Laguerre series expansion formula to compute the q-scale function of a spectrally negative L′evy process (SNLP), and other functions associated to the scale function for the first time. The proposed closed-form formula for the scale function has many applications in applied probability and in particular in the Le′vy insurance risk theory. We shall show that the new series expansion formulas can be used to express the expected discounted penalty functions, the moments of the present value of total dividend payments as well as the time value of Parisian ruin in the L′evy risk models.

Joint training with local soft attention and dual cross-neighbor label smoothing for unsupervised person re-identification

Existing unsupervised person re-identification approaches fail to fully capture thefine-grained features of local regions,which can result in people with similar appearances and different identities being assigned the same label after *** identity-independent information contained in different local regions leads to different levels of local *** address these challenges,joint training with local soft attention and dual cross-neighbor label smoothing(DCLS)is proposed in this ***,the joint training is divided into global and local parts,whereby a soft attention mechanism is proposed for the local branch to accurately capture the subtle differences in local regions,which improves the ability of the re-identification model in identifying a person’s local significant ***,DCLS is designed to progressively mitigate label noise in different local *** DCLS uses global and local similarity metrics to semantically align the global and local regions of the person and further determines the proximity association between local regions through the cross information of neighboring regions,thereby achieving label smoothing of the global and local regions throughout the training *** extensive experiments,the proposed method outperformed existing methods under unsupervised settings on several standard person re-identification datasets.

Blockchain-based immunization against kleptographic attacks

Adversarial implementations of cryptographic primitives called kleptographic attacks cause the leakage of secret information. Subliminal channel attacks are one of the kleptographic attacks. In such attacks, backdoors are embedded in implementations of randomized algorithms to elaborately control randomness generation, such that the secrets will be leaked from biased outputs. To thwart subliminal channel attacks, double-splitting is a feasible solution, which splits the randomness generator of a randomized algorithm into two independent generators. In this paper, we instantiate double-splitting to propose a secure randomness generation algorithm dubbed SRG using two physically independent generators: ordinary and public randomness generators. Based on public blockchains, we construct the public randomness generator,which can be verified publicly. Hashes of a sufficient number of consecutive blocks that are newly confirmed on a blockchain are used to produce public randomness. In SRG, outputs from the two generators are taken as inputs of an immunization function. SRG accomplishes immunization against subliminal channel ***, we discuss the application strategies of SRG for symmetric and public-key encryption.

Quantifying the solid electrolyte interphase stress induced capacity fading of lithium-ion batteries via a multiscale mechanical-electrochemical coupling model

The solid electrolyte interphase（SEI） is widely recognized as a critical factor leading to the capacity fading of lithium-ion batteries（LIBs）. Although SEI stress-related mechanical failure caused by the expansion or contraction of active materials upon cycles is well documented, previously reported SEI components and overpotential varying phenomena due to SEI stress and their effects on the electrochemical performance are poorly understood. Here, we establish a quantitative correlation between capacity fading and the SEI stress by considering its effects on side reactions, especially SEI component evolution, in a multiscale mechanical-electrochemical coupling model. Furthermore, the capacity fading behaviors of two typical cells（Li[NiMnCo]O2as the cathode, and graphite and silicon as the anode, respectively） were adopted as numerical examples to demonstrate its potential utility and applications. Stress within the SEI was indeed found to play a predominant role in the capacity fading of the graphite and silicon anodes, resulting in 27% and 69% of the total capacity loss after 200 and 100 cycles at 1 C, respectively. This study provides valuable mechanical insights into the variations of SEI properties related to the capacity degradation and SEI optimization and design for LIBs.

This study addresses the parameter identification problem in a system of time-dependent quasi-linear partial differential equations(PDEs).Using the integral equation method,we prove the uniqueness of the inverse problem in nonlinear ***,using the method of successive approximations,we develop a novel iterative algorithm to estimate sorption *** stability results of the algorithm are proven under both a priori and a posteriori stopping rules.A numerical example is given to show the efficiency and robustness of the proposed new approach.

Two Nonmonotone Proximal Gradient Methods for Nonsmooth Optimization over the Stiefel Manifold

We propose two nonmonotone retraction-based proximal gradient methods for solving a class of nonconvex nonsmooth optimization problems over the Stiefel manifold. The proposed methods are equipped with the descent direction obtained by a proximal mapping restricted in tangent space of the manifold and the BarzilaiBorwein stepsizes determined by two recent iteration points and the corresponding descent directions. By employing, respectively, the Grippo-Lampariello-Lucidi nonmonotone line search strategy and the Dai-Fletcher nonmonotone line search strategy, our proposed methods are proved to be globally convergent. Analysis on the iteration complexity of NPGL for obtaining an?-stationary solution is provided. Numerical results on the sparse principle component analysis problems demonstrate the efficiency of our methods.

Multiple model PHD filter for tracking sharply maneuvering targets using recursive RANSAC based adaptive birth estimation

An algorithm to track multiple sharply maneuvering targets without prior knowledge about new target birth is proposed. These targets are capable of achieving sharp maneuvers within a short period of time, such as drones and agile *** probability hypothesis density (PHD) filter, which propagates only the first-order statistical moment of the full target posterior, has been shown to be a computationally efficient solution to multitarget tracking problems. However, the standard PHD filter operates on the single dynamic model and requires prior information about target birth distribution, which leads to many limitations in terms of practical applications. In this paper,we introduce a nonzero mean, white noise turn rate dynamic model and generalize jump Markov systems to multitarget case to accommodate sharply maneuvering dynamics. Moreover, to adaptively estimate newborn targets’information, a measurement-driven method based on the recursive random sampling consensus (RANSAC) algorithm is proposed. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves significant improvement in tracking multiple sharply maneuvering targets with adaptive birth estimation.

Hydride precipitation in zirconium cladding materials can damage their integrity and *** temperature and material defects have a significant effect on the dynamic growth of *** this study,we have developed a phasefield model based on the assumption of elastic behaviour within a specific temperature range(613 K-653 K).This model allows us to study the influence of temperature and interfacial effects on the morphology,stress,and average growth rate of zirconium *** results suggest that changes in temperature and interfacial energy influence the length-to-thickness ratio and average growth rate of the hydride *** ultimate determinant of hydride orientation is the loss of interfacial coherency,primarily induced by interfacial dislocation defects and quantifiable by the mismatch degree *** escalation in interfacial coherency loss leads to a transition of hydride growth from horizontal to vertical,accompanied by the onset of redirection ***,redirection occurs at a critical mismatch level,denoted as qc,and remains unaffected by variations in temperature and interfacial ***,this redirection leads to an increase in the maximum stress,which may influence the direction of hydride crack *** research highlights the importance of interfacial coherency and provides valuable insights into the morphology and growth kinetics of hydrides in zirconium alloys.
