The standards within the global steel industry are constantly advancing, necessitating increasingly rigorous quality control protocols during the continuous casting process. Central to the challenges faced in this domain are persistent defects such as central segregation, V-shaped segregation, and center porosity, which significantly impede the production of high-caliber steel products. The discipline of electromagnetic metallurgy has emerged as a critical solution in reducing these defects, thereby enhancing the efficiency and stability of continuous casting operations. Its demonstrated effectiveness has led to its widespread implementation across global and domestic steel production industries. This paper aims to deliver a comprehensive examination of electromagnetic metallurgy's impact on the final stages of solidification in continuous casting, along with its contributions to the heating and purification processes within the tundish. Additionally, it will explore the potential advancements and applications of this technology in the evolving sphere of continuous casting.

Large eddy simulation of boundary layer combustion of hydrogen and hydrocarbon fuel films in a modeled scramjet combustor

Supersonic fuel film cooling is a promising way to simultaneously reduce the severe wall heat and friction load of the internal passage in a scramjet engine when operating at hypersonic *** eddy simulations were performed to investigate the cooling and wall friction characteristics of hydrogen and hydrocarbon films under inert and reactive *** results show that the essential difference of the turbulent state in the mixing layer contributes to the totally different behaviors of the cooling and wall friction reduction performances of the two fuel *** turbulent transport processes between the hydrogen film and the mainstream are much weaker as compared to the case of hydrocarbon film,making inert hydrogen rather superior in cooling and friction reduction ***,the increase of wall temperature for hydrogen film under the inert case is mainly driven by the loss of hydrogen with high heat capacity instead of by direct heat ***,the film cooling performance severely deteriorates when the hydrogen film burns due to presence of severe heat release sources near the *** the other hand,combustion of hydrocarbon film in the boundary layer can remarkably improve its originally barely-satisfactory cooling and friction reduction performance to the level comparable to that of hydrogen film,due to the suppression of turbulent transport processes in the mixing layer and presence of heat absorption sources near the ***,the hydrogen film is more advantageous in friction reduction,while the hydrocarbon film is more suitable for cooling.

An extensive numerical investigation is conducted to characterize the flow separation control in a transonic compressor cascade with a porous *** bleed holes are arranged on the suction surface in a single row,two staggered rows and three staggered *** each bleed scheme,five bleed pressure ratios are examined at an inlet Mach number of *** results indicate that the aerodynamic performance of the cascade is significantly improved by the porous *** the single-row scheme,the maximum reduction in total pressure losses is 57%.For the two-staggered-row and three-staggered-row schemes,there is an optimal bleed pressure ratio of 1.0,and the maximum reductions in total pressure loss are 68% and 75%,*** low loss in the cascade is due to the well-controlled boundary *** new local supersonic region created by the bleed hole is the key reason for the improved boundary *** vortex induced by side bleeding provides another mechanism for delaying flow *** the bleed holes could create multiple local supersonic regions,which reduce the range of the adverse pressure gradient that the boundary layer needs to *** is the reason why cascades with more bleed holes perform better.

The aging process of atmospheric aerosols usually leads to a mixture of inorganic salts and organic compounds of anthropogenic *** organic compounds,polyhydroxy organic acids are important components,however,the study on composition and hygroscopic properties of the mixture containing inorganics and polyhydroxy organic acids is *** this study,gluconic acid,the proxy of polyhydroxy organic acids,is mixed with the representative nitrate(Mg(NO_(3))_(2),Ca(NO_(3))_(2))to form ***-FTIR and optical microscopy are employed to study the component changes and hygroscopicity as a function of relative *** relative humidity fluctuates,the FTIR-ATR spectra display that the internal mixed gluconic acid(CH_(2)(CH)_(4)(OH)_(5)COOH)and nitrate can react to release acidic gases,forming relevant gluconate and further affecting the *** specific presentation is particles cannot be recovered to their original size after the dehydration-hydration process and there will be some disparities in GF for mixed *** the gluconic acid-Ca(NO_(3))_(2)/Mg(NO_(3))_(2)mixtures with molar ratios of 1:1,higher degree of reaction resulting in the production of large amounts of gluconate should be responsible to the lower hygroscopicity compared to ZSR *** 1:2 gluconic acid-nitrate mixed systems(with higher nitrate content),the hygroscopicity of mixtures are higher than the ZSR prediction.A possible reason could be‘salt-promoting effect’on the organic fractions of the surplus inorganic salt in the *** data can improve the chemical composition list evaluation,in turn hygroscopic properties and phase state of atmospheric aerosol,and then the climate effect.

The emergence and development of layered materials have shown great promise for many applications, especially in recent years, the effective modulation of the physicochemical properties of layered materials by intercalation chemistry has led to great potential in material design. In this paper, we review the reaction mechanisms of different guest species(metal atoms/ions, organic molecules/ions, inorganic molecules and inorganic ions)intercalated into the host layered materials as well as the recent progress. It is also reviewed that layered intercalated materials with controllable structure and tunable physicochemical properties can be prepared through the occurrence of interactions between different subjects and guests. The specific applications of intercalation chemistry in the field of electrocatalysis, such as the hydrogen evolution reaction, oxygen evolution reaction, oxygen reduction reaction and other electrocatalytic reactions, are then discussed, with emphasis on the mechanism of the improved catalytic activity and stability of the layered materials after guest intercalation.

Recently,significant experimental advancements in achieving topological phases have been reported in van der Waals(vdW)heterostructures involving ***,using first-principles calculations,we investigate graphene/CoBr_(2)(Gr/CoBr_(2))heterostructures and find that an enhancement of in-plane magnetic anisotropy(IMA)energy in monolayer CoBr_(2) can be accomplished by reducing the interlayer distance of the vdW *** addition,we clarify that the enhancement of IMA energy primarily results from two factors:one is the weakness of the Co-d_(xy) and Co-d_(x^(2)-y^(2)) orbital hybridization and the other is the augmentation of the Co-d_(yz) and Co-d_(z)2 orbital ***,calculation results suggest that the Kosterlitz–Thouless phase transition temperature(TKT)of a 2D XY magnet Gr/CoBr_(2)(23.8 K)is higher than that of a 2D XY monolayer CoBr_(2)(1.35 K).By decreasing the interlayer distances,the proximity effect is more pronounced and band splitting ***,by taking into account spin–orbit coupling,a band gap of approximately 14.3 meV and the quantum anomalous Hall effect(QAHE)are attained by decreasing the interlayer distance by 1.0 *** by the above conclusions,we design a topological field transistor device *** results support that the vdW interlayer distance can be used to modulate the IMA energy and QAHE of materials,providing a pathway for the development of new low-power spintronic devices.

A numerical study is conducted to elucidate the impact of hole shapes and additional flow angles on the flow structure of the coolant and temperature field in the leading edge area of the gas turbine *** typical hole shapes are considered for the GE-E3 *** impact of the additional flow angle(E)within each hole shape on the temperature field is *** results indicate that for the leading edge area and suction surface,the fan-shaped hole case performs best in decreasing temperatures,with a decrease of about 43 *** is mainly due to the fact that the fan-shaped hole has the maximum expansion in hole spanwise *** the pressure surface,the console hole case performs best in decreasing temperatures,with a maximum reduction of about 47.2 *** influence of E on the surface temperature at leading edge area varied between the different hole *** the cylinder hole and console hole,the E=-20°case has the lowest area-averaged *** both the fan-shaped hole and the 7-7-7 shaped hole are expansion holes,the pattern of variation of the leading edge area temperature with increasing E is similar for the fan-shaped hole case and 7-7-7 shaped hole *** E=20°case shows the lowest spanwise-averaged temperature near the hole outlet,and the E=-20°case shows the lowest spanwise-averaged temperature further downstream.

Ab Initio Design of Ni-Rich Cathode Material with Assistance of Machine Learning for High Energy Lithium-Ion Batteries

With the widespread use of lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles,energy storage,and mobile terminals,there is an urgent need to develop cathode materials with specific ***,existing material control synthesis routes based on repetitive experiments are often costly and inefficient,which is unsuitable for the broader application of novel *** development of machine learning and its combination with materials design offers a potential pathway for optimizing ***,we present a design synthesis paradigm for developing high energy Ni-rich cathodes with thermal/kinetic simulation and propose a coupled image-morphology machine learning *** paradigm can accurately predict the reaction conditions required for synthesizing cathode precursors with specific morphologies,helping to shorten the experimental duration and *** the model-guided design synthesis,cathode materials with different morphological characteristics can be obtained,and the best shows a high discharge capacity of 206 mAh g^(−1)at 0.1C and 83%capacity retention after 200 *** work provides guidance for designing cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries,which may point the way to a fast and cost-effective direction for controlling the morphology of all types of particles.

Quantum anomalous Hall(QAH) insulators have excellent properties driven by fancy topological physics, but their practical application is greatly hindered by the observed temperature of liquid nitrogen, and the QAH insulator with high Chern number is conducive to spintronic devices with lower energy consumption. Here, we find that monolayer Fe SIn is a good candidate for realizing the QAH phase;it exhibits a high magnetic transition temperature of 221 K and tunable C = ±2 with respect to magnetization orientation in the y–z plane. After the application of biaxial strain, the magnetic axis shifts from the x–y plane to the z direction, and the effect of the high C and ferromagnetic ground state on the stress is robust. Also, the effect of correlation U on C has been examined. These properties are rooted in the large size of the Fe atom that contributes to ferromagnetic kinetic exchange with neighboring Fe atoms. These findings demonstrate monolayer Fe SIn to be a major template for probing novel QAH devices at higher temperatures.
