Evaluation of a hepatic biomarker of nutritional imbalance in juvenile red drum(Sciaenops ocellatus) fed 60% soybean meal-based diets using NMR-based metabolomics

A 12-week feeding trial with juvenile red drum(Sciaenops ocellatus) fed high-soybean meal(SBM) diets was conducted to investigate a putative biomarker of nutritional imbalance, N-formimino-L-glutamate(FIGLU). Three fishmeal-free, 60% SBM pelleted diets(named B12, Fol, and Met, respectively) were tested to evaluate the effects on growth performance and tissue metabolite profiles of supplementation of vitamin B12(0.012 mg/kg), folate(10 mg/kg), methionine(1 g/kg) respectively, above basal supplementation levels. A fourth SBM-based diet(named B12/Fol/Met) was formulated with a combination of B12, folate, and methionine to attain the above-mentioned target concentrations. A fifth 60% SBM diet(named FWS) with methionine supplementation(1 g/kg above basal supplementation levels), enriched with taurine, lysine and threonine as well as minerals, was also tested. This diet contained formulation targets and additives which have allowed for replacing fishmeal with plant proteins in rainbow trout feeds. Control diets included a fishmeal-based diet(named FM), an unsupplemented basal 60% SBM diet(named SBM60), and a “natural” diet(named N) made up of equal parts of fish(cigar minnows), squid and shrimp as a positive reference for growth performance. Formulated feeds contained approximately 37% total crude protein, approximately 14% total crude lipid and were energetically balanced. Standard growth performance metrics were measured, and tissues(liver, muscle) were collected at week 12 to evaluate diet-induced metabolic changes using nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)-based *** results show that the FWS diet outperformed all other SBM diets and the FM diet under all performance metrics(P<0.05). FIGLU was not detected in fish fed the N diet but was detected in those fed the SBM diets and the FM diet. Diffusion and reaction mechanism of limestone and quartz in fluxed iron ore pellet roasting process

The increase to the proportion of fluxed pellets in the blast furnace burden is a useful way to reduce the carbon emissions in the ironmaking *** this study,the interaction between calcium carbonate and iron ore powder and the mineralization mechanism of fluxed iron ore pellet in the roasting process were investigated through diffusion couple *** electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy was used to study the elements’diffusion and phase transformation during the roasting *** results indicated that limestone decomposed into calcium oxide,and magnetite was oxidized to hematite at the early stage of *** the increase in roasting temperature,the diffusion rate of Fe and Ca was obviously accelerated,while the diffusion rate of Si was relatively *** order of magnitude of interdiffusion coefficient of Fe_(2)O_(3)-CaO diffusion couple was 10^(−10) m^(2)·s^(−1) at a roasting temperature of 1200℃for 9 ***_(2)Fe_(2)O_(5) was the initial product in the Fe_(2)O_(3)-CaO-SiO_(2) diffusion interface,and then Ca_(2)Fe_(2)O_(5) continued to react with Fe_(2)O_(3) to form CaFe_(2)O_(4).With the expansion of the diffusion region,the sillico-ferrite of calcium liquid phase was produced due to the melting of SiO_(2) into CaFe_(2)O_(4),which can strengthen the consolidation of fluxed ***,andradite would be formed around a small part of quartz particles,which is also conducive to the consolidation of fluxed *** addition,the principle diagram of limestone and quartz diffusion reaction in the process of fluxed pellet roasting was discussed.

Metal complexes of bipyridine-functionalized covalent organic frameworks as efficient electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction

Electrocatalytic water splitting is considered a clean and practic al method for producing *** this study,COF-Bpy,a bipyridine-functionalized covalent organic framework(COF),was prepared via post-synthetic modification,after which electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reactions(OER)were formed through coordination to single-or double-transition metals(Fe,Co,Ni,FeCo,FeNi or CoNi).COF-Bpy@FeNi delivered the best OER performance among the studied electrocatalysts,with an overpotential of 399 mV at 10 mA·cm^(-2)in an alkaline electrolyte(1.0 mol·L^(-1)KOH aqueous).Notably,the electrocatalytic performance of COF-Bpy@FeNi showed slight degradation during durability testing,which is ascribable to its irreversible benzoquinoline structure and strong metal *** expected,COF-Bpy@FeNi exhibited a low overpotential of 347 mV at a turnover frequency(TOF)of 0.1 s^(-1),which suggests that COF-Bpy@FeNi possesses excellent intrinsic electroc atalytic OER ***,density functional theory(DFT)calculations reveal that the Ni site plays a major role,while the Fe site adjusts the electronic structure of the Ni ions,which rationalizes the excellent OER properties of COF-Bpy@*** study not only provides a simple and efficient method for complexing COFs with transition metals,but also offers a novel strategy for designing porous organic polymer electrocatalysts.

Covalent organic frameworks/carbon nanotubes composite with cobalt(II)pyrimidine sites for bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysis

With characteristics and advantages of functional composite materials, they are commendably adopted in numerous fields especially in oxygen electrocatalysis, which is due to the significant synergies between various components. Herein, a novel bifunctional oxygen electrocatalyst（Co-CNT@COF-Pyr） has been synthesized through in-situ growth of covalent organic frameworks（COFs） layers on the outer surface of highly conductive carbon nanotubes（CNTs） followed by coordination with Co（II）. For electrocatalytic OER, Co-CNT@COF-Pyr reveals a low overpotential（438 mV） in alkaline electrolyte（1.0 M aqueous solution of KOH） with a current density of 10 mA cm-2, which is comparable to most discovered COF-based catalysts. For electrocatalytic ORR, CoCNT@COF-Pyr exhibits a low H2O2yield range（9.0 %–10.1 %） and a reaction pathway close to 4e-（n =3.82–3.80） in alkaline electrolyte（0.1 M aqueous solution of KOH） within the test potential range of 0.1–0.6 V ***, which is superior to most reported COF-based catalysts. Hence, this research could not only offer an innovative insight into the construction of composites, but also facilitate the practical application of renewable fuel cells, closed water cycle, and rechargeable metal-air batteries.

Discovery of the Significant Impacts of Swell Propagation on Global Wave Climate Change

This study compared the differences in the wave climate in the South China Sea and North Indian Ocean under these two datasets:ERA-40 wave reanalysis and Mei’s hindcast wave *** the numerical calculation of regional ocean waves,the wave climate characteristics exhibited significant bias if the influence of external swells(swells from afar)was not fully considered,which may provide an incorrect basis for global climate change analysis.1)The trends of the significant wave height(SWH)obtained from the two datasets showed significant differences,such as those of the Bay of Bengal and the Java Sea in *** the past 45 years,SWH from ERA-40(SWH-ERA)exhibited a significant annual increase in low-latitude waters of the North Indian Ocean(0.2-0.6 cm yr^(-1))and South China Sea(0.2-0.8 cm yr^(-1)).2)In the Bay of Bengal,the SWH-ERA in each month was generally 0.5 m higher than the SWH from Mei’s hindcast wave data(SWH-Mei)and can reach 1.0 m higher in some months.3)In the Bay of Bengal,SWH-ERA and SWH-Mei increased significantly at annual rates of 0.13 and 0.27 cm yr^(-1),*** increasing trend was mainly reflected after ***-ERA showed a trough in 1975(1.33 m)and a crest in 1992(1.83 m),which were not reflected in SWH-Mei.

Design of highly active and durable oxygen evolution catalyst with intrinsic chlorine inhibition property for seawater electrolysis

High-efficiency seawater electrolysis is impeded by the low activity and low durability of oxygen evolution catalysts due to the complex composition and competitive side reactions in ***,a heterogeneousstructured catalyst is constructed by depositing NiFe-layered double hydroxides （NiFe-LDH） on the substrate of MXene （V2CTx） modified Ni foam （NF）,and abbreviated as NiFe-LDH/V2CTx/*** demonstrated,owing to the intrinsic negative charge characteristic of V2CTx,chlorine ions are denied entry to the interface between NiFeLDH and V2CTx/NF substrate,thus endowing NiFe-LDH/V2CTx/NF catalyst with high corrosion resistance and durable stability for 110 h at 500 mA ***,the two-dimensional structure and high electrical conductivity of V2CTxcan respectively enlarge the electrochemical active surface area and guarantee fast charge transfer,thereby synergistically promoting the catalytic performance of NiFe-LDH/V2CTx/NF in both deionized water electrolyte (261 m V at 100 m A cm-2) and simulated seawater electrolyte (241 mV at 100 mA cm-2).This work can guide the preparation of oxygen evolution catalysts and accelerate the industrialization of seawater electrolysis.

Supplementation of alanine improves biomass accumulation and lipid production of Chlorella pyrenoidosa by increasing the respiratory and metabolic processes

The function of exogenous alanine(Ala)in regulating biomass accumulation,lipid production,photosynthesis,and respiration in Chlorella pyrenoidosa was *** shows that the supplementation of Ala increased *** biomass and lipid production in an 8-d batch *** concentration of 10 mmol/L of Ala was optimum and increased the microalgal cell biomass and lipid content by 39.3%and 21.4%,respectively,compared with that in the control(0-mmol/L Ala).Ala supplementation reduced photosynthetic activity while boosting respiratory activity and pyruvate levels,indicating that *** used exogenous Ala for biomass accumulation through the respiratory metabolic *** accelerated respiratory metabolism due to Ala supplementation elevated the substrate pool and improved the lipogenic gene expression,promoting lipid production at *** study provided a novel method for increasing biomass accumulation and lipid production and elucidated the role of Ala in regulating lipid production.

Experimental study on the dynamic response of a 3-D wedge under asymmetric impact
