Preliminary data of life history traits of Mormyridae(Actinopterygii:Teleostei)in the Upper Sanaga River,Central Region of Cameroon

The present study on some biological aspects of the Mormyridae fishes,was conducted between May and August 2015 in the Upper Sanaga at L´eki´e department(Monat´el´e Town),Center *** this purpose,125 specimens collected by local fishermen were *** were identified and measured,and their feeding and reproductive parameters were obtained after *** catch composition of 4 species(Campylomormyrus phantasticus,Mormyrops anguilloides,Mormyrus macrophtalamus,Mormyrus tapirus)of Mormyridae identified in the region was very low(17%–30%).The mean±standard deviation of total weight and total length were 103.14±37.83 g and 27.47±4.84 cm,*** minimum and maximum size(of 21.1 cm and 43 cm)were recorded from *** and ***,*** mean±standard deviation of the relative length and mass of the digestive tract were 0.35%±0.20%and 5.27%±23.20%,respectively confirming that Mormyridae fish species have a strict carnivorous diet and consume prey that are difficult to *** size frequency distribution of the Mormyridae fishes showed that the majority of the fish caught are small sizes in classes 23–26 cm and 26–29 cm in ***,*** and *** did not record small specimens,however,it recorded larger sized specimens(41–44 cm)compared to the *** sex ratio ranged from 1M:1.14F(***)to 1M:4F(***),mean 1M:2.04F has been generally in favour of *** gonadosomatic index(GSI)was generally low in all ***,it was higher in females of *** and *** compared to other *** hepatosomatic index(HSI)was weakly correlated with the GSI in these species.

Restoration of a Temperate Reef:Effects on the Fish Community

The extraction of large boulders from coastal reefs for construction of harbours and coastal protection has led to habitat degradation for local fish populations through the destruction of cavernous reefs and changes in macroalgal cover resulting from a loss of substrate. The temperate reef at L?s? Trindel in Kattegat, Denmark, has now been re-established with the aim of restoring the reef’s historical structure and function. The effects of the restoration on the local fish community are reported here. Fishing surveys using gillnets and fyke nets were conducted before the restoration (2007) and four years after the restoration of the reef (2012). Species of the family Labridae, which have a high affinity for rocky reefs, dominated both before and after the restoration. Commercially important species such as cod Gadus morhua, and saithe Pollachius virens, occurred infrequently in the catches in 2007 but were significantly more abundant in the catches in 2012. Cods were especially attracted to the shallow part of the reef that was restored by adding stones. For some species, such as ballan wrasse Labrus bergylta, and cod, the proportion of larger individuals increased after the restoration. The findings highlight the importance of reef habitats for fish communities and the need for their protection.

Morphometric analysis and fluorescent microsatellite markers to evaluate the genetic diversity of five populations of Penaeus japonicus in China

To understand the current status of germplasm resources of Penaeus japonicus,in this study,genetic diversity was analyzed based on morphometric analysis and fluorescent microsatellite *** morphometric analysis,the cumulative ratios of the PC1 and PC2(85.90%)were greater than 75%,which can explain the morphological variation among *** microsatellite analysis,the allele number in 10 microsatellite loci ranged from 27 to 53,and the effective allele number ranged from 21 to *** observed heterozygosity ranged from 0.463 to 0.983,whereas expected heterozygosity ranged from 0.932 to 0.966,and the average polymorphism information content was 0.947,which indicated a high level of genetic *** unbiased genetic distance among populations ranged from 0.230 to 0.431,and the genetic similarity coefficient ranged from 0.654 to *** of molecular variance(AMOVA)showed that the genetic variation within individuals was the main source of variation,accounting for 88.55%,and only 1.49%of the genetic variation came from among populations.

In Benin, the preservation of maize is a real problem involving important physical and chemical properties losses. Physical losses are due by rodents, pests and insects and chemical losses are mainly due to fungal infection. Several methods, products and practices are used by farmers to overcome these problems. The methods used do not always control the losses caused by fungal infection. The objective of the study was to make a bibliographic synthesis of the impacts induced by the items, practices and methods used to overcome the chemical losses of maize. In the search for information, the library of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and fisheries was consulted;the archives of the library of the University of Abomey-Calavi and the National Institute of Agricultural Research of Benin were also consulted. Thus, chemicals such as sofagrain, Pyrimiphos-Methyl, Thiamethoxam, Pyrimiphos-Methyl, Permethrin, Deltamethrin, fumigant are used to control physical attacks on maize. Ash and plants species such as neem tree (Azadirachta indica) are generally used for the preservation and storage of maize seeds. In addition, chemicals such as arsenious anhydride and zinc phosphide are used for the preservation of corn. The use of these molecules and chemical products has negative impacts on human health and the environment. Of all the methods used, no treatment is still popularized for the reduction of the chemical losses caused by the fungal infection in corn storage.

Prevalence of Ectoparasitic Infestation in Indian Major Carps During Winter at Different Blocks of South 24-Parganas District, West Bengal, India

The study was carried out to find the prevalence of ectoparasites in carp species specifically Indian Major Carps(IMC)during the post monsoon season(November’16 to March’17).Four groups of ectoparasites ***,ciliophoran,monogenean and crustacean were recorded from a total 500 number of carp species like,Labeo rohita,Catla catla,Cirrhinus mrigala and Labeo calbasu collected from different ponds of selected blocks of South 24-Parganas district of West *** highest prevalence(64.8%)of infestation had been recorded by Myxozoans and the lowest was by Monogeneans(4.8%).The highest and lowest ectoparasitic prevalence in carp was observed in ***(32.9%)and ***(27.3%).Beside these,lower temperature(Average 19.3℃),low pH(Average 6.9)and marginal level of dissolved oxygen(Average 6.0ppm)were also created an unfavorable condition for parasitic infestation during this *** the end of this experiment it was concluded that disease occurrences due to ectoparasites was high in winter with some key factors like temperature,pH and dissolved oxygen(DO).

Developing a geographic Case-Based Reasoning approach

Case-Based Reasoning （CBR） is an AI approach and been applied to many areas. However, one area - geography - has not been investigated systematically and thus has been identified as the focus for this study. This paper intends to further extend current CBR to a geographic CBR （Geo-CBR）. First, the concept of Geo-CBR is proposed. Second, a representation model for geographic cases has been established based on the Tesseral model and on a further extension in spatio-temporal dimensions for geographic cases. Third, a reasoning model for Geo-CBR is developed by considering the spatio-temporat characteristics and the uncertain and limited information of geographic cases. Finally, the Geo-CBR model is applied to forecasting the production of ocean fisheries to demonstrate the applicability of the developed Geo-CBR in solving problems in the real world. According to the experimental results, Geo-CBR is an effective and easy-to-implement approach for predicting geographic cases quantitatively.
